Just held the HTC one in the store

just got back from ATT store to play with the One a 2nd time. Man, this device is so damn sexy and quite simply pure eye candy! I honestly cant find something I don't like. this device ticks all the boxes for me:

* build quality
* smooth UI
* universal inbox
* stunning display (better than retina)
* perfect screen size (not too big)
* fast & comfortable keyboard (quick typers will love this keyboard)
* camera (zoe's)
* blink feed (i often use my device for twitter/news)
* android!

only thing I need now is for this device to make it's way in some form to Verizon. :)

What do you mean Universal Inbox??

Anandtech. How about you show one review that picks the S4 over the One or the year old iPhone 5.

Oh yeah, and enjoy your crapoled S4 display, I wonder what color white will be on that phone, green or blue?

Please link to where anandtech picks he One over the S4. Oh that's right you can't. Troll much?

I'm sure there will be many reviewers going both ways on this one. I can't see anyone thinking this is a slam dunk either way.

Totally agree. Whatever you prefer is going to be the best (for you).

For myself I like The One so it would be my choice for top seed. For others it will be the s4. Neither being wrong

But folks seem to love to argue about it anyway. People need to justify their choices and purchases, I guess.

Lol they sure do. Not really a bad thing either but man, people sure get defensive when you disagree with them.

I hope both these phones do great (and they will) it's better for us all in the long run

I'm trying to come over from an iPhone 5, and I'm kinda amused by people arguing over which Android phone is the best. If it's not Android vs Apple, then it's stuff like HTC One vs the Samsung Galaxy S4.

It's because there is only one right answer and you're both wrong. If I keep insulting you maybe you'll just see the light...

What causes this is HTC not being compliant in having only hardware buttons. In fact, it has nothing to do with developers.
Of course if HTC went with all on screen buttons, then you will also have such a black bar, but now it would be normal to have all on screen buttons and that black bar.

On the s4, this won't happen.

No. It is noncompliance with app standards. The hardware buttons would be fine if developers would actually update their apps.

Oh, I agree with the Google spec. I just don't agree that htc only went half way with such a spec to please google. Big difference, especially since his idea isn't based on fact but based on conjecture at best.

You don't know anything about the spec. The ONLY spec regarding buttons that Google suggests is that the menu button be gone. It was deprecated in the 11th android API set. Nowhere are on screen buttons required.

As a matter of fact, google specifically instructs developers to add the overflow (menu) button to their apps specifically anticipating situations like that of the One.

Uhm. They did. He said point blank he would choose the One over any other current or immediate-future android device.

Let's be honest. I like their reviews a lot. But saying "immediate-future android device" is a bit over the top without having spent time with a retail unit.

Ah, no. Phones that haves hardware menu button don't get a black box.
But yeah, I already said if the developers did update their apps then you won't get the black box with on screen buttons...but why should they? For just 2 out of hundreds of android phones? Who is going to pay them to do this? You?

They don't, but they're also totally noncompliant with the android device guidelines. The guidelines state very specifically that phones can either have hardware or onscreen buttons. They also state that the menu button should not be included because it has been deprecated.

True. But he's actually spent some time with an S4, so his opinion is still worth more than that of every poster here. (With the exception of the guys that went to the Samsung event )

I not only agree, but that was part of my argument. It seems we agree far more then you realize.

You need to go read the review...or have your mom read it for you, whichever.

Taken from the Anandtech review, for what it's worth:

"Ultimately, HTC appears to have built a great phone for enthusiasts and one that can be marketed, with some effort, to the mainstream. Samsung, by comparison, seems to have its targets set squarely at the mainstream and it has the features and the marketing budget to really capture the attention of that audience. You can argue about the merits of features like the ability to automatically pause video based on whether or not you?re looking at it - personally I?d take better camera performance - but that?s a much easier feature to explain in a TV commercial than why larger pixels matter."
