Just received my Photon 4G!

Weird question I know, but will this phone accept any sim card? Or is it locked to a Sprint sim card or something? And if it is, how can I get this unlocked? I have a sim from my home country that I would like to use when I leave the country so I don't have to switch phones! I HATE cdma and I'm so happy for this phone. I love my EVO but I HATE having to use some crap ass phone when I leave the country.

The phone should accept any sim card supporting the 850/900/1800/1900 GSM bands outside of the US. As far as I know, the phone does not support US GSM (aka AT&T and T-Mobile). I don't see why it would come with locked sim card since Sprint does not use them at all right now.

Caveat: I have no personal experience with international phones/sim cards, so this is all based solely on my interpretation of available information.

There's a SIM Slot.. Sprint will not populate it for you.. when you land in Europe.. go to an O2 or Saturn store (think Best Buy) and pick up a disposable SIM pre-paid.. you should be all set.

Actually no, unless sprint has changed their world phone setup in the past 2 years, Sprint phones come with a unbranded GSM SIM Card for International Roaming outside North America. Now I did not own a world phone, a friend did and that may ruin my credibility here but i am 99.999% sure they come with SIM card in a LOCKED sim card slot

closest picture i could find is CNET for the tour. http://reviews.cnet.com/sc/33686230-2-300-DT3.jpg

It is highly likely the phone will be locked and you cannot use a prepaid SIM card unless you get the phone unlocked somehow. Sprint has its own GSM SIM Card pricing plan as well

Oops.......didn't see this when I replied. ^^ What he said :p

Actually in reference to my reply, I did some scanning on this forum about other people's world phones on sprint and it was mentioned many times that although it did come with a sprint sim that the slot was unlocked and could use prepaid sims which is great news if true.

See this thread http://forums.androidcentral.com/sprint-photon/94235-gsm-capabilities.html

Did that change? I remember having to call Sprint to get an unlock code for my BB9630 in order to use another SIM.

Can't confirm, just going off other people's posts, sad thing is I dont really mind; either way i would charge to my company. ;)

Can not wait to get this phone, after looking at these pictures the phone looks very Pro, not flashy which is what i need for work, wish it was a tad thinner to compete with GSII but I dont mind being a big guy.

If Shawheim has any more input to write about this phone he got i am super interested in battery life both on and off WiMax

Most of the world phones that Sprint sells come unlocked. If they're locked, you can call them and they'll unlock it for you.

NIce!!

It wouldn't matter if it was locked or not cause it took about 3 minutes to have mine unlocked.

i have a sprint sim in my samsung wm phone i have for work. so it prob does have a locked one.

All what do I need to know which processors better and faster! The Tegra2 on the PHOTON or the Snapdragon on the EVO 3D? Am not asking which iis better phone.

Whoever provides a SIM card is going to have their own branding on it. That does not mean that the phone will only accept a Sprint SIM card.

Yes it does unless you unlock the phone... I had a TP2 and needed to unlock to use another sim in another to use in another country.

This issue is discussed in the thread I linked to above, please take the discussion over there. The experience of users in that thread is different than what you've experienced.

I have a HTC 3D, I am hooked on the HTC sense, but I am gonna get the Photon for my fiance. She bought a HTC 4G 2 weeks ago, gonna return it within the 30 days and get the Photon. We really need the world phone capabilities. Hell, if I play with it and like it better, I may swap her for my 3D. (I'm gonna pay the difference for the Photon)
