I was considering ordering the folio but wanted someone else to jump first. Let me know what you think when it comes in. My local best buys don't have them on display either. Didn't have them last week when I got it, and still don't now. Maybe it's due to the limited supply?

Just a heads up for people who own this tablet or plan on owning it, the official Dell folio is 10% off right now with coupon code 78M4SHHJ4JC9WW and its showing as free overnight shipping, dunno if its a glitch or what but with tax my folio just came out to $38 with delivery no later than the 15th.

Dell Venue Folio - Black : Handhelds & Tablet PCs | Dell

I have a folio on order - back order it seems - as it has been delayed from my original ship date. Tablet is on order as well and - hopefully - will be arriving from Dell this week. Can't wait.

I ordered one through Dell when I saw it on one of the tech blogs I follow. By the time I found out Best Buy had it, Dell was already shipping the order. It will arrive on Thursday. I pulled the trigger because Dell allows free returns up to 30 days, so I figured I had nothing to lose.

I went to my local Best Buy yesterday and played with their display model for a bit. Also played with the Nexus 9 for the first time. I would definitely take the Dell over the Nexus. They even had an open box Nexus 9 for $299, but 16 GB with no expansion is not enough for me. After seeing all the good reviews, I'm even more excited about getting my own in two days.

Can someone check their settings and see if Dell enabled the "move to SD card" feature? If not, anyone aware of a way around it without rooting the Venue 8 7840?

How did you get the APK to work? I tried getting Office mobile on the Playstore but it says my device is not compatible and there is no download link. I tried downloading the APK from a few different sites but I cannot open the file. I feel like such a noob but I really want to install Office on my 7840. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Just got one this morning and so far it is awesome. Only issue I have is that there do not appear to be any cases for it yet anywhere. Other than that it is awesome. I actually returned my Nexus 9 for this and could not be happier. Nexus 9 was suck a piece of crap. Good riddance!

Dell has a case available as well as IVSO on Amazon.

What a magnificent device. I upgraded from the original Venue 8, which I love. It looks like Dell learned a lot from where they were when it first came out. It's only been a day but the only issue I have had was trouble getting the SD card slot open. While the original Venue 8 is only a 200.00 device you get a good experience for your money. So for double the money what is improved?

Major league screen quality, about 2.5 times the resolution.
Higher quality audio, both speaker and headphone output.
It also supports the Aptx high quality Bluetooth audio codec.
I never felt the Venue 8 was slow but the 7840 Is even snappier.
The outer case, again I had no problem with the old Venue this,
however is a whole nuther level of awesomeness.
The thinness, the lightness, the way it feels to hold. It's really, really nice.

My main problem is the paltry 16gig storage.
A 400.00 device should have 32 gigs minimum.
What about the camera you say? I don't anticipate using it.
I hope Dell can find something else about the tablet to focus its marketing on.
I predict that when the guys at Android Central finish their compare and contrast, this will land as the top tablet available on Android right now.

I've had mine for almost a week now. I love it but I can't find a way to move stuff to the SD card. I've tried with 4 different file managers with no luck. I don't know if I need to root it (and don't know how) but if I can't get it to work I'll probably return it to BB. Your help with this problem is appreciated.

The tablet is amazing and I cannot stop looking at the screen! Ordered from BB and picked up at the store -- sounds like the way to go, versus waiting for Dell to ship. Trying to get Dell to ship the Folio. They keep delaying it by a week and cannot provide a firm ship date. It's stuck "in production."

Only these oddities thus far:
  1. TuneIn Pro crashes every time. (The non-pro version works fine.)
  2. I had Flipboard installed, and it suddenly was uninstalled. This could be just an Android and/or Flipboard issue.
  3. If I hold the tablet in portrait mode with the speakers at the bottom, the wireless strength drops to 1/2 of normal. The solution appears to be to hold it upside-down.
Has anyone actually received a Dell Folio for this device? What is the build quality like? Does it add a lot of weight or bulk?

Agreed. The screen is super impressive and much better that my note 10.2 2014. I also really like that it is close to stock Android. I just wish there were more options for cases.

It appears the wifi radio is right under the front facing camera. Move your hand up about 2 inches the full signal comes back. Just curious, what applications do you use it in portrait for? I pretty much never use a tablet that way.

I tend to use the tablet in Portrait mode most of the time, although it depends on the app. Flipboard is one that I prefer viewing in Portrait.

Finally received the Dell Folio after waiting 2 weeks.

On the plus side: It's well made, fits perfectly, adds very little bulk or weight, and provides moderate protection, particularly for the screen. Folds back and snaps nicely out of the way (using a magnetic latch) when holding the tablet for reading. One more bonus is that the case adds just enough extra room around the edges to make holding the tablet easier in different configurations.

Negatives: It does not have a sleep/wake function. Also when used in "stand" mode with the tablet in the most vertical position, the tablet is a little wobbly. I also found it a little odd that the back of the tablet is not protected.

UPDATE: I just realized that the cutout in the folio for a headphone jack is not large enough for most headphone jacks. It's too small, and therefore it's not possible to plug in a headphone jack with the tablet in the folio.

Overall, a good folio although I think $25 would be a more reasonable price.

Had mine for a couple days now and I'm really enjoying it. There's a few little hiccups I notice occasionally, but I think Dell can fix them with updates (hopefully timely). The screen is darn gorgeous, the tablet feels wonderful, and for the most part it's very quick. Bring on lollipop!
