Keep track of 3G data outages here for Virgin Mobile

I dont see any info from VM of FB but on Twitter I see some responses from some people apologizing and telling us they are upgrading to help capacity issues. Not a good thing, sounds like there infustructure is saturated and they didnt prepair for it. HMMMMMM I think a refund is coming for me. I'll wait a couple more weeks.

On Facebook go to Virgin's Wall and search (using your browser, not FB) for "Virgin Moblie USA". You will see several replies from VM stating they are having a nationwide outage. There are also several replies requesting people to send an email to vmusocialcare@sprint.com though it seems like what they are trying to do is spam Sprint's tech support with problems :)

Sprint does own Virgin, so the fact that some of their CSRs (higher level) are on the Sprint domain name is to be expected.

My service worked well yesterday, the only day since Friday. Today it absolutely won't do anything at all.

I am loving my LG Optimus V as a phone far more than I thought I would like an all-touch device, the iPhone Keyboard Emulator (Sixgreen Labs), but this is absolutely inexcusable. Frankly, to me, I think there should be some governmental involvement that basically says this--fix it, and fix it right, by April 1st--or you will be FORCED out of business by government decree. A company this incompetent shouldn't be allowed to exist.

So the CSR's are getting us to push the higher people. Wow! what a professional company!

You realize that is standard protocol right?

The standard csr's are not prepared to help you.
Therefore they are saying contact our level 3 support team that can give you a better answer.

If you want a refund I would just take your phone back now. Tell the people the service has been crap and you would rather pay twice as much for more reliable service.

You mean "their" CSR's arent prepared to help "us". Are you having any problem?

Lucky me...I will be able to return it. I have until next month on the 12th. I have allot of confidence in them!!! They can do it!!! GO VM GO!

Before the 12th that is!! lol;)

Oh to get back to the thread: It's back up for me like yesterday!! 605 up 321 down. Lets's see what happens tomorrow afternoon again.

You claim to be in outside sales, but have no idea how a call center works.
Right now VM's network has been demolished the people that need to answer the questions are the sprint techs not the call center people that main job is to address things like my phone wont activate, I need to change my number, my phone bill is due today but I lost data at 1am why you so cheap VN?

Not things like wtf is going on with 3g being down for a week now. Or what are you doing to fix this. Sure they can pass along messages but people are wanting to hear it from the people trying to fix it not the call cneter people.

And the people doing the fixing are busy, you know, fixing. The VMU Socialcare people seem to be the ones actually taking care of the customer service side of the outage.

I had my usual 5 hour evening outage at Dulles, Va, from 1700-2200; came back on strong as usual. I guess I can buy the "upgrading service" spiel, but I went from Sprint to VM just to have the web and email. I don't use the talk ability too much, so I'm not getting the service I need. Price is great, but low price with bad service isn't worth it.

Data Still Down in Southcentral PA

I've had intermittent data problems since buying my Optimus V in February. It was especially bad on Friday night and again this evening. I called customer service tonight since they haven't responded to my emails. They gave me the same answer everyone else is getting -- they're upgrading, try again in an hour, let me check to see if you're in the affected area, etc. They said I have to call back for a credit. As of 12:08 a.m. EDT, it's still out. These guys are making my unreliable DSL service look good.

Service is still out in northern Virginia as of 12:30am. Admittedly I've been on wireless all day and only tested it three times, though, so I could have missed some uptime. Fortunately, I don't 'need' it until Wednesday... :P

Those of you that are, rightfully, upset think about this.
Virgin has the best plan right now for data/text. Add to that a pretty damn nice phone for 150 bucks. Hardly any stores can keep the phone in stock. I went to the Best Buy and Radio Shack near me and I was told the Optimus just wont stay in stock. The BB guy said a business customer came in and bought 8 phones for his employees. Set them up with the 300 minutes and data/text plan. Now he has a group of managers with phone service that is cheap and fairly reliable.

The absolute amount of new subscribers Im quite sure is just beyond the capacity of the network. Its taking time to get things switched to allow more people to use the network.

Be upset, not asking you not to. Just think before you start a new thread or post in a existing one. Even if you are paying 60 bucks a month, its a lot cheaper than what you would pay at another company. And to expect them to be operating like those other companies is absurd right now.

No one anticipated the amount of new users they have got. They were caught with their pants around their ankles so to speak and are trying to get them pulled back up. In due time things will get better and most definitely make most people happy.

1:10 AM. Northern, VA. 3G still down.

I, for one, like seeing posts on VM network status. Helps to troubleshoot if it's my phone/account or if it's VM's issue. Web on my phone is more of a convenience for me than a necessity. Don't mind if it's down for a day or even 2 days if they're doing upgrades. Now if it's down for a weeks, I'll take issue with that.

Pretty much spotty all day in so MO. It was back an hour ago but gone now /shrug

Optimus using tapatalk.

I understand your point again but in a business point of view they really had there pants complete off before they were caught. They had to have known they were going to get over saturated, come on now its there business. Lets just say they decided to increase there earnings before they upgraded there infrastructure and that has left thousands of people with out what they paid for. At least there offering to compensate. Lets just see how long it will take and how well it will work. I hope to be suprised and keep my fingers crossed because based on what allot of people are writing I shouldnt expect much for what I am paying. I hope I am wrong. "patience my dear Watson!"

Oh FYI Metropcs has a 60 per month unlimited premium everything plan which is an option, the problem is they dont have any good 4LTE phones. This is why I went with VM. Metro's 4LTE is almost twice as fast but is still in the buggy phase. If I end up returning my Optimus I may just wait for a better phone from them as I had originally planned. There 4LTE phones now are very expensive and very bad. I dont expect to go back to ATT or Verizon but it is possible.

9:20am Northern Virginia, still (again) down. Will only load VM's home page no matter what I type in my browser.

This thread is for keeping track of data outages. What's there to think about except whether one has a data connection? And frankly, if 'no one' anticipated the flood of users with these plans then 'no one' is pretty dumb. You are offering $25 for unlimited data on an android phone when no competitor is even close to 2X your price and you don't anticipate a torrent of new users? AT&T started the IPhone at about the same price and more than twice the monthly charge and was still brought to its knees by the influx of users. That right there should have been a model for your network, if anyone at VM had an ounce of common sense.

Jenna,

This may be a different problem. Did you month just restart? If so then often the plan has to be reset for data in the VM system. You can either restart the month from your VM page (I have never done this so don't know what actually happens) or call them and tell them to do it manually.

However, it is likely that since VM Customer Service is getting so many calls from users about data outage, you will have to get lucky to find someone who will in fact listen to what you are saying instead of just giving you the boilerplate answers about data outage.
