Keep track of 3G data outages here for Virgin Mobile

Been lucky today, I guess. Haven't even had to toggle airplane mode.

Was in Front Royal Va all day yesterday, great 3G connection (and was on it all day). I guess not a heavy 3G area, so no need to throttle the low-cost version of Sprint service. I don't really buy the "growing pains" explanation - VM is owned by Sprint, and like clockwork, cuts off service for the low-cost plan. Cricket buys their service from Sprint, and I haven't heard of problems in their forum - Cricket wouldn't accept it.
Sprint/VM, prove me wrong.
I am back in NoVa today, and will need consistent email - we'll see.

Stable 3g last night and this morning@ 9:20 am cst, Chicago area.

Whatever they did yesterday afternoon has helped.

I have had a good connection too in Bethel and Cheshire CT. Checking now in Cheshire...826 down 1023 up.

In monument grounds Washington DC all day riding bicycle and listening to streaming radio with no interruptions! We might be focusing on where the misconnections occur

well now this thread is turning around pretty well :D my 3G has been up for quite a while longer than most here it seems.

in the past few days, im getting 0.5 MBs speeds during the day, and almost 2MB/s at night (from 10 to 8am)

anyone else seeing regular patterns like this? curious if sprint is throttling virgin mobile users, or if its purely just heavy traffic on the towers that is out of sprint or virgins control

Past two days have been greatly improved here in Vegas as well. I haven't run a speed test, but I have had 3G data all day, with one time I had to turn it on and off (could be my modified ROM's issue there).

I do buy VM/Sprint's claims they are upgrading, it makes sense based on both the postings here, and previous releases of phones and or services by all the major carriers. There is always a bump when dealing with a popular new phone.

I can understand why this particular roll-out may have had extra problems. A large number of new users on an unlimited data plan, all buying new phones and installing tons of free apps from various markets, and testing and tweaking the performance of their new toys, I mean phones. Just the bandwidth to browse the app store is probably huge! Add to that all the fancy new Google apps that use voice, which has to be sent to their servers for processing, it's like a tidal wave of mini mp3s.

With the price of this service being so low, and the last two days showing improvements in 3G performance, I think the wise move is to wait 2 months before making any decisions (at least wait the one month you paid for when you activated your phone).

No data drops for 48 hours!!!. This is most ever without interruption.

We should create a thread on how long they can keep the data service up.

It looked good this morning, one time about 8:45am cst it went to 1x but then came back to 3g without doing anything and all has been well. Chicago area.

As far as speeds, I am averaging about 550kbps dn and only 50kbps up.

Good news here in Miami also. I've been getting emails from VM telling me there back up. So far yes its been up for a while now and the speeds are good. Slow down in peak tmes still but that will be normal. Let's hope it stays this way. I actully hope it gets better.

did get a few 1200 DL 600 UP

Averaging 380 DL 150 up (might be my house because on the way to dropping off my sister at the airport I was streaming HD video in the car)

:) yay

My 3G was working in Utah yesterday but I haven't been able to connect all day today. No internet and no Marketplace.... Whenever I open a web page, it just sends me to virginmobileusa.

It sounds like you have the Redirect of Death, which isn't tied to service outages, call customer service to have them fix your account.

Do you know what they have to do to fix it?

I did a little research about the redirect-of-death and found several threads with people saying their account payment was due and for some reason the auto payment didn't work.

My payment was originally due today but I did make an online payment a couple of days ago. I called VM, a few minutes ago, and you were right, they had to reset my plan (not the phone just on their end) and my 3G is working.

thanks for the info.

Just called Virgin Mobile

They told me that they hoped to have the nationwide problem resolved by the end of the month but that they couldn't make any promises.

I'm usually around Wi-Fi but I turn it off and check the 3G several times a day. I'm near Los Angeles and the 3G has been consistent for a few days so far. I hope it stays that way. I was used to it going out on a daily basis. Especially after 5 PM.

I just did a speed test at 6 PM and got 1418 down and 264 up. The best I ever tested was 2328 down and 794 up.

3G outage in NYC for the past 5 (yes FIVE!!) days

how awful.

I bought a shiny new droid with hopes of going on a road trip, tuning into Pandora only to realise that there has been absolutely no data connection for 5 yes FIVE days.

what crap!
