Latest rumors: Name change, plan changes, release before Xmas

Well if they do that then I can switch to a gsm carrier and not get stuck waiting on carriers to get phones and being able to import a phone lol worst case scenario. Oh well no need to get worked up now when there are months to pass worrying about other things=)

1.) I actually like the Nexus Prime name better and, don't care if the boxes keeping the accessories say something else, as long as they work.

2.) This frustrates me because I don't use any VZW apps except MyVerizon. However I can understand them wanted to make the apps available to customers who paid for them. It does show a difference in the way Verizon does things. When the nexus phones were on T-mobile, I never heard of anyone who used the T-mobile apps or even wanted to use them. I don't know if this is good or bad.

3.) I will probably buy my phones outright from now on and, will try to hold on to unlimited data until they take it away from me or, I switch carriers for the next Nexus phone (which I hope I will have to).

I CANNOT wait til Verizon says something about this phone. Then rumors like this will die.
But until that happens, as the late, great, Frank Zappa said, "There's no way to delay more trouble comin' everyday."

EDIT: As Google's and Samsung's phone, I doubt VZW has control over the name. I'll bet if Best Buy weren't a bunch of morons, this name would never have come back.

My take on these:
Number one sounds absolutely insane. Accessories are already made, and the packaging for them says Galaxy Nexus. But. Verizon would like to differentiate their product, and since it's technically different from the other versions, this would make a lot of sense. It would make our job much easier with two different names for two different phones.

How are they two different phones?

Well look at the incredible how it changed names

Hmm, so a possible name change...I wonder how recent that was? I mean if the phone was to be released within the next couple of weeks wouldn't have Samsung already mass produced phones plus packaging ready to ship with the Galaxy Nexus name?

Just seems like an odd thing to do unless this was planned already weeks ago.

Number three -- we knew it was coming eventually. Start saving your pennies so you can buy phones outright and not extend your contract. It's worth it to keep unlimited data on a device that gets 40M/sec downloads.

Discuss, and try not to kill each other :)

This...there's no nice way to say this. This would piss me the hell off. I don't take what carriers do personally, but in this case, anybody can admit it would be insulting.

When verizon was switching over to tiered data, they made the point "buy this phone now to get locked in on unlimited data!". Get locked in for what? The assumption is this is a permanent thing and that's why so many people bought thunderbolts when they didn't give a damn about the phone.

If they do a switch a roo on this, there will be a ton of people that switch back to dumbphones. That's my prediction. I know it sounds crazy in this insanely connected world, but when people aren't free to do whatever they want and they have to conserve, alot will be asking "then what's the point of this". Unless they lower the data overages to something more managable, this could be very very bad.

Is there a lock you can put on your data caps? If you have a 2gb cap, can you make it so once you hit that cap, you can't use data for the rest of the cycle as to not incur overage charges?

So you're saying even if I have unlimited data right now, Verizon will take it away when I want to sign a new contract/extend my contract with them?

And I really don't think the name will change. Didn't a correction leak from Best Buy today claiming it IS called the Galaxy Nexus?

I seriously doubt this. As with everything, usage will evolve, not regress. Internet, GPS, etc., is too much of an allure for many to give up their smartphones. If anything, they will learn to manipulate their usage more wisely and judiciously. If anything, I would predict a reduced video streaming and increased reliance on wi-fi. And from a future device perspective, this will drive manufacturers to find ways to boost their devices' capabilities to be less reliant on the carriers' networks to perform certain functions.

Don't worry, Splinters! I'm sure VZWRocks will come in here soon to explain to us how this is actually Verizon's way of helping us. And/or he will tell us "You'll take what Verizon gives you!" And you'll be happy about it!

I think if verizon does do that they need to either 1. raise the caps, or 2. make it like tmo where after you reach a certain amount of data at lte speed you get pushed down to very slow speeds until the next billing cycle.

This may not make you feel better but, the Nexus Prime does have that data monitor built into ICS. I believe it will shut off data for you when you reach the limit.

Then again, why would they take away grandfathered unlimited data when they keep upping the cap. It's 2gigs. Then for a limited time it's double your data (4gigs). Could we be moving back to unlimited data, albeit very very slowly?

2 gigs to start, then 4 (for a limited time) then there'll be a promotion next summer "Jump on this phone for a limited time for 8 gigs of data!" and then a few years from now, we're back to unlimited or something close to it. This entire situation with tiered data could've been networks using overage money towards infratructure/better backhaul to support the increase in usage/more customers. A few years from now when another hundred billion has been spent on the network, back to unlimited

Just a thought

If it comes to all phones that have ICS, it definitely makes me feel better

I have a prediction.............this will be the last time there will be a Verizon exclusive with a Nexus phone. This whole thing is a disaster for Google and Samsung ..... hopefully they will learn from it.

Yeah I think that's a huge help if the user has more control. I noticed the Rezound came preloaded out of the box with the Verizon Data Usage widget...since I am on WiFi most of the time and have unlimited data, it wasn't a big deal to me, but I guess having that widget right there is good for the average Joe that picks up the phone.

Another huge plus is having a better sense of which apps are using how much data and battery life. Isolate app. Enhance. DeleteDeleteDelete.

I really can't even believe that people are STILL bringing up this "Nexus Prime" nonsense. Ridiculous. Please, think of how many different ways that makes absolutely no sense. It doesn't jive with ANYTHING we have seen so far, aside from a Best Buy ad that they ALREADY claimed was a mistake and have since corrected, and some anonymous dude, who we don't know, who happens to be the ONLY person saying this.

Folks, EVERYTHING is pointing at it being called the Galaxy Nexus. Everything from rumored release dates and MAP documents and internal e-mails, all the way up to both the official websites of Google US, Samsung Mobile US, and Verizon Wireless.

I could see an intrusive carrier who disregards its customers needs for such small-scale things (I'm not naming any na *VZW* mes) folding this feature in to their own app, which is, naturally, much less robust and much more hard to navigate and less feature-packed, all the while removing it from their Android phones on their network in an attempt to up sell people to higher capacity plans.

But yeah. Don't be evil or anything.

It is about money not infrastructure. I mean verizon does not have a ton of strain on their network that they needed to go towards tiered data. They went that way to have a larger bottom line plain and simple.

Hey but gb said it and his name is in red so he is "the cowboy" I mean how could he be wrong. /s This could and most likely seems like a thread to just stir the pot since it was a slow weekend IMO.
