Latest rumors: Name change, plan changes, release before Xmas

fwiw

They just started receiving accessories for the phone in the stores here in Maryland. I don't know if that's a good sign or not, but just saying....

Any of Verizons plan could have a curve ball if the ATT/TMO merger doesnt go through...TMO gets a chunk of money and most likely a network sharing agreement with ATT. TMO gets aggressive with pricing...Sprint wont beable to turn off unlimited data and ATT/VZW will have to do something to keep churn down. My guess would be keep grandfathered in customers as they are locked in and offer promos like the current double data to attract new postpaid customers. The grandfathered folks will just have to deal with some kind of "network management".

For some reason I'm getting the feeling that this thing won't even drop by December 8th. I'm scared.

I just thought of something why are they even delaying this phone for the stupid my Verizon app its dumb did they forget that the phone has a web browser that can go to their website God forbid though someone has to type in verizonwireless.com.

I really can't even believe that people are STILL bringing up this "Nexus Prime" nonsense. Ridiculous. Please, think of how many different ways that makes absolutely no sense. It doesn't jive with ANYTHING we have seen so far, aside from a Best Buy ad that they ALREADY claimed was a mistake and have since corrected, and some anonymous dude, who we don't know, who happens to be the ONLY person saying this.

Folks, EVERYTHING is pointing at it being called the Galaxy Nexus. Everything from rumored release dates and MAP documents and internal e-mails, all the way up to both the official websites of Google US, Samsung Mobile US, and Verizon Wireless.

This is why I'm having a hard time believing there would be such a significant change this late in the game such as a name change. If they were going to sell this phone before Christmas, wouldn't it have to be produced and shipped/start shipping by now to U.S. shores? I'm making assumptions of a timeline here so I'm not so sure. And as you have said, there have been no other indications of the Nexus Prime name showing up anywhere outside of some third party vendors.

Btw, I'm not saying its impossible. I much prefer Nexus Prime but you have to admit its a rather odd rumor. :-)

1. As much as I would LOVE it to be called the nexus prime, I doubt it

2. maybe it'll be launched on the 29th, then I can get it on launch day :D trollface.jpg

3. meh, as long as I have my unlimited i'm happy. I didn't know if verizon was grandfathering or not when the gnex was announced, so i was planning on buying it off contract anyways. if they force me onto tiered i'll switch to some cheap pay-as-you go that offers unlimited data. simple mobile is the most appealing to me.
I think the constant price increases are a little backwards. as tech gets older, it gets cheaper, so aside from corp. greed, they should be decreasing prices, especially on 3g data. I really wonder how much people will put up with before the big carriers start really losing customers. like I said, unlimted data is the most important bit to me, so forcing me off that will send me to another carrier.

If they do this in march i am gone.

PERIOD!

And what are you gonna do? Leave to another provider where you'll still be limited to 2GB data? I mean c'mon I understand you're frustration, but there's no solution. It's an industry wide trend. We have to accept the fact and adapt. Pay for only 2GB of data and use Wi-Fi as much as you can.... or pony up the dough for more data. It's that simple.

Another waste of a post. With the phone being released by the end of the year, theres only an 18% chance that it'll be after Christmas.

I dont think it will be called the Nexus Prime, even though I do like the name.

I think the fact that the source is probably wrong about this takes away the credibility of his other statements aswell.. So I dont think people should be getting worked up about a possible March Unlimited Data announcement.

But in the case they do, by that time my line will already be upgraded.. and I will have atleast 2 years more of unlimited data.. so I'm not really worried about it.. in 2 years from now LTE could be everywhere and carriers like sprint and att might be worth a shot.

I think the 1st rumor is not valid, Best Buy already posted the correction that the name should be the Galaxy Nexus. I still have faith that the phone will launch before December....Shooting for tomorrow.

I know I *just* posted whining about the potential to lose unlimited data, and I still fully mean what I said, but I just checked on my little wifi experiment. Without really changing my usage much, by using wifi i've managed to cut my cell data to less than a gig this month. However, I still need unlimited data because in july I managed to rack up 13 gigs. I have no idea what I was even doing.

Not sure how the name is on the box but they could just add a sticker over the name on the box/book to change it.

The reason number 3 doesn't make sense is because of the promo they are doing now with 4GB of data for the price of 2GB.

Something about this whole rumor just doesn't click.

Someone just pointed out on another forum that the Incredible originally shipped as just "HTC Incredible" (packaging and all) before later batches were re-branded with Droid packaging. (See here.)

Considering that, then perhaps a re-branding to Nexus Prime is plausible but I still consider it suspect (like all rumors).

It won't be the Prime because Asus took that name with the Transformer Prime. Simple as that....

As much as I wouldn't like Big Red changing their policy, not sure how you would use more than 4GB of data (based upon their deal going right now) unless you are tethering all the time....I wouldn't switch from Big Red based upon their much better customer service and network strength!
