Latest rumors: Name change, plan changes, release before Xmas

MmcCrary!! One question. Are you high? "Anonymous dude" please go back and find out more info before you go on a rant.

I really can't even believe that people are STILL bringing up this "Nexus Prime" nonsense. Ridiculous. Please, think of how many different ways that makes absolutely no sense. It doesn't jive with ANYTHING we have seen so far, aside from a Best Buy ad that they ALREADY claimed was a mistake and have since corrected, and some anonymous dude, who we don't know, who happens to be the ONLY person saying this.

Folks, EVERYTHING is pointing at it being called the Galaxy Nexus. Everything from rumored release dates and MAP documents and internal e-mails, all the way up to both the official websites of Google US, Samsung Mobile US, and Verizon Wireless.

A few verizon people I know call it the Nexus Prime and to top it off, some retailers have jumped the gun with accessories. This is the most anticipated phone on Verizon since the Dinc maybe?

I wouldn't put it past them to get it out before Christmas and issue a release within a month or so.
They missed a big sales weekend and that probably doesn't sit well with Big Red.

Then again, why would they take away grandfathered unlimited data when they keep upping the cap. It's 2gigs. Then for a limited time it's double your data (4gigs). Could we be moving back to unlimited data, albeit very very slowly?

2 gigs to start, then 4 (for a limited time) then there'll be a promotion next summer "Jump on this phone for a limited time for 8 gigs of data!" and then a few years from now, we're back to unlimited or something close to it. This entire situation with tiered data could've been networks using overage money towards infratructure/better backhaul to support the increase in usage/more customers. A few years from now when another hundred billion has been spent on the network, back to unlimited

Just a thought

Hopefully when they've paid for all the initial costs of more and more backhaul they'll let us have unlimited data back. And hopefully that happens sometime before my future Gnex is out of contract, lol.
It's kinda funny to me that it would start out unlimited and cheap, and get more limited and expensive over time. Seems really backwards to me. I remember when dial-up came out it was expensive and you usually had a time limit, sometimes a data cap. Then it got cheaper, and became unlimited use. Who knows?

Hey but gb said it and his name is in red so he is "the cowboy" I mean how could he be wrong. /s This could and most likely seems like a thread to just stir the pot since it was a slow weekend IMO.

So many people claim to have an "inside" source......fact is no one on here knows. Its all speculation......if you spit out enough dates and stats they will end up hitting eventually. I mean, just a week ago the most trusted source on here was saying internet only the week of the 21st.........even he doesn't know. I don't mind reading these things to entertain myself but for me the best thing I did was rent a Razr until the Nexus comes out.

I remember when 12/8 seemed like a lifetime away. Now we're talking about "before Xmas"?

Ugh

Hope none of that is true.

1) The name, which could in fact still be in Verizon's system as one device and be marketed as another....ever see their Basking Ridge HQ? You need a taxi to get from your office to a bathroom.

2) Verizon launched almost all devices on the date they announced, yet this one is all over the map. So I find it a valid point that there are kinks in it.

3) Everyone is doing it so why can't I mentality. ATT does it and Sprint throttles you so why wouldn't Big Red who took away free holiday calling, changed their nights and weekend hrs, gone away with NE2 credit, etc. care about the end user?

There are so many rumors and people that know people who know people that if you get worked up over everytime someone posts something like this you will get all worked up. I would not put too much into anything you hear on here. Until it comes from verizon it means NOTHING!!

Don't hold your breath. The only thing that will drive that is market pressure from competitors and, at the moment, there is woefully inadequate market pressure.

It isn't funny (odd) at all. The unlimited plans were initiated when web usage on a phone was an extremely limited experience compared to current device capability and related web content. Now that the bait has been taken and more users are buying more capable devices, the ability to raise prices on those users is absolutely logical. The prices/data limitations will continuously adjust based on where that price/data point hits the curve in which the customer demand peaks. VZW isn't dumb. They know where that business model goes and how far to take it.

The downward price pressure for dial-up was related to increased competition, increased technological efficiencies that reduced provider costs and the all-important secondary advertising revenues. Different set of economic points involved with that situation.

Ok so let me see if I get this right...upgrade some time this December (hopefully) keep unlimited. But for future phones, buy them outright? What if your upgrade is in May and you go from 3G to 4G...buy that outright or is the switch in networks not considered a change to your contract?

Nobody knows. I would wait and not worry about it until verizon announces it and then everyone will know just like with the tiered data.

Good ?

I do believe data caps will come to all, but maybe there is a valentine holiday sale for devices, or maybe march ends up becoming april, etc.?

Dunno, but I have heard myself of others saying a cap for all users was coming in 2012 even though only 5% use more then 2gb according to big red.

I think it will/ should be 3-4 gb and that they really want to crack down on tethering, video downloads, etc., but then why take advantage of 4g?

I feel like the guy who buys more coke so he can stay up longer, to work longer, to make more money, to buy more coke, so he can stay up longer........

scumbag verizon: has unlimited data, rolls out 4g, then takes unlimited away.

at least I'll have a reason to leave verizon if i ever make a plan change in the future.

Because verizon advertised netflix and all that and now that some took advantage of it they will take it away or severely limit it.

3 seemed inevitable. My pennies will be saved but if they find some other reason to take my unlimited plan away, I'll be outta there. They better allow unlocked lte devices on the network.

I think for many, taking away grandfathered would push them over the edge to another carrier even if they do not have unlimited data. If it came down to none of the carriers had unlimited I think many would switch to what has better phone selection since that is one of the only reason people stick with big red is due to being grandfathered in. I mean if it was as easy on cdma to import phones maybe people wouldn't care but who wants to wait and get locked down phones when you can import and not have to deal with the carriers and their slow updates.

I asked a VZW rep specifically about 3G v. 4G when I upgrade phones and he said that that it would not affect my unlimited data in any way.
