what's sup forum ? the only problems i'm having so far is with *228 my phone won't restart and with backup assistant. can anybody help me with this ?

1. some of the vzw are missing, but you can still download them from the market under the vzw tab.
2. yes, it should have given you root access.
3. wireless 3G hotspot is not free... you can use it if you pay vzw to do so.

Is the tethering I see in the wireless and network settings the same as Verizon 3G Hotspot or is it something free within the update?

#3 There was a posting on the earlier pages either here or at XDA, actually I think it was posted there then copied here, but anyways it says that there is something built built into this ROM that allows VZW to monitor unauthorized tethering. Not sure if it is accurate or not, but since it was posted by the OP on XDA I am tempted to believe it.

dont down load wifi tether there has been reports that there is a snopping app built in to the phone that we can see and you will get charged with data if u use it. its in the earlier posts like pgs 1-10.

Thanks for posting this Cory,
I wish I would have had it yesterday. I spent about 6 hours wiping my phone, loading various colors of CWM, and renaming files to update . zip and always getting the Validation error problem.
I finally broke down and down and downloaded odin I did it basically the same way you posted except I flashed DL30 first and CWM 2nd. I don't have any of the other problems others have had except for the Battery meter glitch. I will have to search this post for the fix I think I skimmed over earlier.
Quadrant score went from 860 to 980 without lagfix for whats its worth.

A Noob Question: Can I flash a Superclean Rom on top of this and do I have to do a Cache wipe and factory reset in CWM first.

2-3 minutes. If it takes longer, try booting into recovery and doing a wipe.

I'm glad you got it working. Someone else will have to answer your superclean ROM question. I believe the answer to your question is yes, but I'm not positive.

Backup assistant is unnecessary bloatware. All contact info is backed up to Gmail if you use it, and there are many other apps that can do this too.

That what I was getting last night as well and couldn't get it to go away so I ended up going back to stock DL09 and starting over and wiping data/cache about 3 types each for good measure.

Exactly what I ended up doing!

@Cory- you ever get that samsung keypad keypress sounds thing figured out? If you haven't, it looks like if you turn down System Volume in Sound Settings, it gets rid of that along with the annoying boot/shutdown sounds

Works fine for me. If you're using your phones web browser, don't do that. Use your PC and then transfer to your SD card.

ha didn't know the preview trick in the app drawer. So we have:

- previews in app drawer
- pressing back and the power button takes screen shots
- long pressing on notification bar and dragging left or right adjusts display brightness

did i miss something here , why dont you just shut down audible touch tones/selection down?

he still wanted sound in the dialer. And to turn off the tone for the samsung keypad, you either have to turn off Audible Touch Tones or move the System Volume slider. Using the slider still gives you the dial pad tones since it's controlled by the media volume.

pages and pages back someone had an issue with the domain key being absent... I installed the keyboard Cory mentioned (Smart Keyboard Pro) and this is an option:
"Persistent domain key - Always display the doman (.com) key"
Maybe that is helpful? Maybe not?!

I am the one who posted so thanks for doing the research. After a bit more research of my own, I also discovered that the stock Samsung keyboard has it when I am in a field that might require a .com.
