No sir. Someone steal my name?

It just sounded familiar for some reason. I haven't been over there for over a year, so I'm probably thinking of someone else :)

Install THIS VERSION of CWM in Odin.

Place THIS FILE on your SD card.

After that. Boot into recovery mode (blue) and select apply update.zip. It will take you to the old green. Install the new cwm.zip. Then, go to the advanced menu in CWM and select reboot recovery. Apply update.zip again. You'll be in the new green CWM. Install DL30.zip from there.

Do I need to update post #1 with either of these files?

At Cory:
No I actually use swype and no haptic feedback, so I kinda like the typing sound. Lets me know I hit something.

Gotcha. I'm not going to worry about it. At the rate I go through keyboards, it's probably not worth the effort haha

I am running into a problem and trying to see if someone has any solution. When I go to Contact>Menu>Accounts, I get Force Close Error.
The second problem I have is when I try to run Setup Wizard, I get Force Close Error. Does anyone have any suggestion for fixing these problems?

Not here. Did you use post 1 to get to Froyo or some other process?

i noticed after the update,

every action on the phone makes my wallpaper to zoom in and out?
my wallpaper is just one of my photo.

anyone else noticed this and is there any way to fix this?

Everything you do?

Clean Wipe

Okay, I flashed to DL30 the other day, but I was under the assumption that this process would wipe my device. it did not and after the upgrade, everthing on my device was as it was. Is this normal?

I am having a few slight issues and wanted to do this again, but from a clean start. Could I do a hard reset now and stay at DL30, or will it go back to DL09? IN which case, I will have to hard reset and then go through the upgrade process again, correct?

Thanks!

Has their been any update as to the Wireless Tether or confirmation of a "snooping" mechanism? Heading out of town this weekend on business and can save some money springing for hotel wifi...

You will not revert to DL09.

It's on my list of things to play with this morning. I'll let you know how it goes.

You may want to. I'm starting to hear more and more troubles with the update for people who used CWM red. I myself was one of them. For anyone that already has the old cwm green, they won't have to do anything in Odin. Just put the new cwm and dl30 zips on their SD card. Flash new cwm, reboot recovery, go back to cwm (now new) and install dl30.zip there.

EDIT: You should also remove step 12 in your instructions to avoid any confusion. :p

There's a usb tether feature in the wireless and network settings now. Works perfect. I'm using it right now actually.

Thanks

Thank you to everyone responsible for making this Froyo force available for the Fascinate. This is my first smart phone and my first time rooting, modding or anything like that, so I am the classic noob, but the instructions couldn't have been easier to follow and everything worked perfectly for me.

Well you're the man with all the answers!

I have a spare Fascinate, so I'll run through the whole process in the first post, using the green instead, and if I don't have any issues I'll edit it for mass consumption.

So no weird tethering data usage being reported on VZW website when you login to your account? I'm really surprised this feature is even being allowed by Verizon.

I'll look further into it. I just ran it for a couple mins to test it as I had seen the feature, but didn't have a use for it right away.

EDIT: I was silly again. I had my PC connected to my phone via USB, but my phone was still on my Wifi, so it was just forwarding that connection. When I turned Wifi off on my phone, and tried to load a page on my PC, it took me to THIS Verizon provisioning page.

Gah.. I need an OTA for this lol... Either that, or I need to find a PC. I've recently tried to download two games, neither of which work properly on 2.1. Not to mention the upcoming Tap Tap Revenge and Words With Friends that will both probably only work on 2.2+... 2.1 is becoming more obsolete than it already was :(

Based on my method, which Cory is currently testing to verify from a spare phone, you wouldn't need a PC to update if you already have CWM Recovery flashed. Keep an eye on the 1st post here. If the instructions change, you can follow those.

Can't Reset

This is weird, no matter what I do I CANNOT wipe my phone. I tried both from boot-up and from Settings>Privacy. Both ways state that it will and is wiping, but the phone always comes back up with all my stuff installed. Only now when I try making a call, it states "Welcome to Verizon Wireless, your mobile number is not active" What the heck is going on?

What it if you didn't have old green before and flashed red in Odin? Do you need to flash new green in Odin or can you do it from red? I'm running Froyo, but if I have problems doing backups I will convert over to new green.

Thanks

Well got mine working finally. Had to reload that DL01 and then download DL09 and then loaded the update and worked great. Thanks for a great tutorial for us noobies!

Red would work to install the new cwm green, then apply update.zip from red, which will take you to green. Just need to get the update.zip file that green lives in on your SD card as well.

Stock E-mail Fix

For those that are interested in getting the stock e-mail working I suggest downloading the aosp_email.zip in the qouted area and installing it. It is working for me just fine. After installing, I deleted my existing account and then add it again. E-mail has been working fine ever since. FYI, my email comes through AOL. Not sure if this works with an exchange server but I beleive it is supposed to.

Use the 2.2.1 email app then.

Be proactive. Samsung isn't gonna hold your hand and bend to your needs. They have made that clear.

Install via clockwork.

Hi guys,

So, when I get to step 12, I'm not seeing "CWMRecovery_DJ05_DL09_RED.tar.md5" in any of my files. Am I missing something? Total noob here, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

You have to navigate to it like an attachment. It will probably be in whatever folder your browser saves downloads to unless you've moved it.
