I have and love the LG G3 (D850 AT&T) and have been extremely happy. The battery life has been good for me, the screen is gorgeous, the camera is excellent, build quality is terrific - in short, I think it's a great device. I could take or leave the stock software and mostly ran Nova Launcher, which I really liked. I rooted the phone sometime ago but did little with it until this weekend, when I decided to flash Cyanogenmod. After getting TWRP recovery flashed, via Bump!, I flashed CM 12, which is based on Lollipop, and I love it. This is now the perfect phone, for me, at any rate. I'm not much of a tinkerer, and frankly find the whole process vaguely terrifying, but it was completely worth it.

Paul, I also love the G3. It is my first Android phone. Using Action Launcher 2 Pro and that's great as well. What were the improvements in CM12 that you think really made it worth it? I too am not much of a tinkerer but I have been curious to try some custom roms

I have not tried CM12 yet, but i am running the Candy5 ROM that is based on 5.0.2. It is very stable, extremely smooth, and everything works flawlessly. That being said, I'm sure CM12 would be a great ROM, and there are plenty more out there.

Head over to xda and check out some of the forums to see which ROM would best interest you

I like, and prefer, the stock feel and don't much care for skinning like Touchwiz or the relatively agreeable job LG did. CM provides the experience I want, and addresses any occasional jerkiness I sometimes encountered. It is fast, stable, beautiful, and there is no bloat.

If you like CM i suggest you try the Resurrection Remix ROM, you can find it on XDA, that is what i currently use and it is absolutely great !

With CM12 installed, do you get the same excellent camera performance as per the stock Rom? Also is battery performance any different under CM12?

I'm interested to try this out. I've never been into rooting as I've always had nexus devices, but I miss that stock feel (especially with things like the dialler) since I moved to my G3. Tempted to try this out as it's a lot more of a mainstream thing than in the days of old! Can you reinstall the stock LG G3 Lollipop OS at a later stage if you need to back out of CM (or any custom ROM) if you need to send your phone back for a warranty issue for example? I don't want to get denied my warranty for the sake of a ROM.

I'm not an expert on these matters but I believe you can make a Nandroid backup through your custom recovery (I use TWRP) and later restore the original backup. As far as warranty, rooting technically voids it but apparently there are ways of getting around that.

I haven't used the camera much yet but you are required to use the Google Camera app, which some people suggest is just OK. I imaging the LG is better but I think I'll be happy.

Battery life seems improved to me.

You can flash back to stock which reverts any rooting. This is what they do with refurbished units actually.

I was curious about this as well. The reason I haven't tried a different rom. I was unsure if any used whatever crazy lasers that lg put in

Good question. I use Google Camera now that I've flashed Cyanogen and I'm not sure the lasers are used. Pictures are still great, I think.

I believe they are still used. The lasers are used on a hardware level as normal function of the camera to find depth.

How much of a stock UI is it? One thing I hate about the G3 is the **** poor dialler app. My N5 one was much nicer (including Google searched results for numbers not in my phone book) and I'd love to get something like that back.
