LG G3: Verizon

What is the draw back to the 2GB main memory, or to the 16GB for that matter? In the former, how often do you run out of RAM on your handset, and what were you doing when you did? In the latter case, wouldn't a 128GB uSD fix the space issue (and probably for less than the cost of the upgrade to the 32GB version if both were offered side by side)?

Discl: I'm coming from the Apple world, so things only work the way Steve would have wanted them to, and we have no other choice. Also, I'm wedded to Verizon through a corporate deal where I get unlimited data + enough voice/text for my needs for $45/mo.

3 GB of RAM would probably improve multitasking and speed depending on what someone is doing on the G3. RAM use is usually pretty high on Android just because that's the way the OS is designed to run efficiently, so given the option almost everyone would want 3 GB RAM on a 2014 Android flagship.

Since KitKat our ability to use SD cards has changed. Apps no longer have full read and write SD card permissions, thus limiting what can be stored on the SD card. And it's just better to have 32 GB of internal storage for more apps, songs, photos, etc.

I still think Verizon will sell a 2/16 and mislead about expandable app storage. The G2 did not have an SD slot. Would not be surprised also if the "premium" at Tmo is the 3/32 and they have exclusivity.

I had a long conversation with a support tech and he told me that it will be released on July 17. He confirmed it will be 3/32 but said there were no other specs than that. Trust me, I asked about wireless charging.

He was a really nice guy.

Kudos Verizon Custormer Support.

No other specs meaning he didn't know if any or that the phone isn't going to have wireless charging?

3/32 sounds good to me. I didn't think they were gonna do the 2/16; why would they when the G2 they sell has 32 gb of storage.

People seems to not buy phones because of logos..Its about the quality/specs of the phone and what it offers not the logo. "i cant txt because of the v-logo on the front" stupidity

I'd still be weary about actually getting the 3/32 package. The person you spoke to may not be "typical," however the Verizon employees aren't entitled to this kind of information. Every article I've read tying in the G3 to Verizon has spoken about a 2/16 combo only. No second source information has made it to my eyes.

He wasn't giving me his opinion or what he heard through the grape vine. He was reading off a distributed fact sheet on the G3. They only internally released the availability date and that it was indeed 3/32.

Well, that's good news then.
All of the articles I've read show the 2/16 variant.

It wasn't removable on the G2 so I would expect that it would be the same for the G3. As for those that are telling people to stop whining about the logos, some (including myself) can be very particular about the aesthetics of their phone. My main issue is that the logos (especially on the front) are absolutely unnecessary. While I do understand that logos are placed to advertise who made the product and such, it's not like I'm suddenly going to forget that my phone is on the Verizon network with the huge Verizon and 4G LTE logo on the back, the Verizon logo on startup, the Verizon branding on the notification shade, the utterly useless and non-removable Verizon applications, etc. And it also sure as hell isn't going to make anyone think "I'm switching to Verizon!" after seeing that obtrusive logo on the front since 95% of the time, I'm the only one looking at my phone... and I haven't forgotten which network I'm using (see above). Basically, it boils down to branding fatigue... I know what device I'm using, I know what network I'm on, I don't need a logo to shove it in my face everytime I use my device.

Making a big deal out of nothing? Yeah, pretty much... but still irritating like a splinter in your finger. It's not going to kill you but it'll definitely be on your mind.
Well, if it bothers you that much then go to a carrier that has less obtrusive branding. Complaining about Verizon branding that is NEVER going to change (it's been this way as long as I have been with VZW - 10 years now) is a waste of energy. The old saying - The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. It is insane to expect to Verizon to ever change their policies with respect to branding and bloatware (which is the worst of any carrier now that they have added a ton of Amazon apps to their preinstalled apps).

Is it just the carrier branding that bothers you?
I ask because there always seems to be the manufacturers brand in the front and back, start up screen and manufacturer branded bloatware similar to the carrier bloat that you mention. Curious why one would bother you and not the other??

do we have any idea on what the off contract price will be for this phone?
I'm hoping no more than $599 for the 3/32 version, provided Verizon gets that version.
I also hope Verizon doesn't change the physical dimensions of the G3 like they did on the G2. Just makes it harder to find cases and accessories.

LG said all carriers are getting the same model

Release date?!?!

Ok so I have been patient following the G3 announcement 27 days ago...but really why haven't we got a release date yet for US? My Verizon upgrade is July 9th and I was feeling pretty confident it would be out by then but now I am not so sure. Got me looking at the S5 again!

There have been rumors that it will arrive on July 17th for Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T customers. Pre-orders are rumored to start on the 10th. Nothing confirmed yet, of course, but I would suggest you wait for it. It is going to be so much better than the S5!

There will probably be an official announcement sometime before the pre-orders open.
