LG G6 a flop? Low sales?

I used to work at the Samsung Store at Best Buy and used to update people's phone all the time. Almost always, usually the people with older devices like 2-3 years old, the update makes the phone almost obsolete. Phone isn't supposed to be that slow, still has pretty good mid-range specs at least. Both Apple and Samsung knows what they're doing and they want their customers to give up their old phones.

Best part of that is that you're not allowed to roll back, and they say it's for "security". Never buying another Samsung after dealing with this. Same thing happened to both my wife's and my last 2 phones. 2 GB ram isn't a ton, but it should still run social media app, and you know, the phone part, properly. But when I can't answer or place a call because the phone is stuttering like crazy, that's BS

One of the reasons why I moved from Samsung to LG was because of the better OS experience, RAM, and battery management. The battery is definitely much more reliable than any Samsung I've owned. Samsung is great still, but LG has got the whole package.
I would agree with you, but I just don't understand why they are slow on OS updates... Have a V10 and still waiting for Nougat... Just don't understand

LG needs to be compared to their own year over year sales and that trend vs the industry. You can't compare it to Samsung or Google or Apple - it's just not going to get the numbers. It takes years to build up that kind of following, not one device - and it's only been a few months.

This x100!

That's how it should be.. But it's a competitive sport in the minds of many people. Sadly.

Marketshare is important, but we have to be realistic. You don't go from a low top 10 player to #1 or #2 overnight, and there's no way to even come close to doing so. It takes years of repeated fantastic sales and continual growth. Samsung sort of got there as a default player, as did Apple. Now any challenger has to compete in a mature market.

The LG G2 came out the same year as the Galaxy S4. They had a lot of time, probably just not enough money for R&D and marketing. They fired their entire team that was working on the LG G5, phone had potential but didn't cut it.

In this case, the phone wasn't even that old. The biggest problem was, battery life went down to around 4 hours. There were a few other problems that were still big, even if the battery life weren't an issue.

With the new mainstream design and features, we would think sales would be great. Though according to sources, they're not doing so well. What could LG do to improve, especially if they already tried to be mainstream?

I think the G6 did great by comparison to prior models so lets not forget that it's a step in the right direction.

It's clear they felt a bit shy on this release after the failure of their modular idea in the G5. It's reasonable that they would go "conservative" this cycle and focus on quality over gimmicks or "flashiness". Not to say that the G7 would likely be crazy again, but it wouldn't surprise me if they stepped out a bit more into unique design choices for the G7 while trying to maintain the quality of the G6. I don't think they'll go "everything and the kitchen sink" like Samsung appears to do.

Just want to ask this again ... OP can you provide your source?
Numbers aren't available but according to some articles on LG's revenue and profit, the mobile division did not live up to expectations. I don't know if you can blame that solely on the G6 not selling as expected or all LG devices not selling as expected. You'd have to know what they predicted sales would be for the G6 only and what the actual sales were.

I kinda feel like Carphone Warehouse should exist in the US and other countries outside of UK and Europe. Even though they have like 2,400 stores, it seems like they have the formula for success.

They focus on the hardware (device and accessories) first and then the services second.

Carrier retail stores here focus on services first and devices second. (But that is what is important to them.)
Walk into any carrier store and Apple and Samsung marketing dominate the floor.

Imagine if a retail store existed that allowed each manufacturer the same amount of advertising/display space?
Customers could walk around and experience a more equal representation of each manufacturer and device.

It reminds me of 8th grade science fairs. You have a 6 x 6 booth to display whatever project you like.

I agree with most statements in this discussion about how marketing sandbagged G6 sales. I wonder how different it would be if LG was allowed to have a larger display area in stores and aired some commercials.

I stopped at the cell booths at both Walmart and Sams Club, no G6 at either. Walmart had the LG X Venture, but everything else was Samsung and Apple. Very annoying. Basically, those two companies pay for the store to promote their product over the others. Big shake down if you ask me, and forces the little guys to stay the little guys.

Apple and Samsung are like freight trains. The Note 7 didn't slow Samsung down much. The lack of design changes over the years didn't turn masses off of iPhones either.

Turned me off. I have the S8+ but considering getting the G6 just for fun. Only thing that gets me is I have not liked previous LG devices but the G6 seems great.

LG needs to improve their screens no question. Their lcd's just can't compete with Samsung's and that's something the average consumer definitely notices at the store when making their decision. As much as i dislike Apple, i would take the 7 plus 1080p screen over my v20 screen any day.

Marketing it more than just on Twitter and FaceBook would help....I've been in two Best Buys and was shocked to see the LG phones on a dinky endcap with a simple LG placard, a phone, and alot of LG Tones surrounding it. Really is lost this way. One BB store has the V20 next to the G6...the other store was simply the G6...turned off, and out of the line of walk traffic.

If LG marketed it with how it did all the testing, along with the camera samples and 18:9 screen....it would get some attention.

Ah, good old battery switcheroo, glad I went with the V20. I pretty much have unlimited battery life with 4 spare batteries standing by.
