LG V20 pic

If I had to rank them, it would be like this. Note that this is my personal list, but I'll list reasons why I think they are ranked as they are, and see if they matter to you.

Note7 - Arguably the mainstream option, and also one of the very best looking Android phones around, with a symmetrical design on both the front and back, along with a beautiful curved design on both sides. You have to see it in person as pictures don't do it justice. However, it's also quite the fingerprint magnet, and if your palms have the tendency to be sweaty, it gets pretty slippery.

LG V10 - A very close second. The V10 may not have the universal appeal of Samsung's glass-backed design, but I think it still looks really good in its own right. It still has a rather unique choice of materials, with stainless-steel rails and a rubberized silicone build for extra durability, while also retaining some LG stuff like the slim bezels. The black V10 with gold accents is probably one of the more eye-catching phones around.

LG V20 - Looks generic at this point, kinda like a cross between a BlackBerry Z30 and an HTC One M9 (95% BB, 5% M9), but in a way, that might not be too bad. It still retains a largely clean front with minimal side bezels. However, I can't help but feel that it lost some of the V10's appeal in terms of materials and design, especially since the LG logo on the black chin kinda brings memories of HTC's famous (and much-hated) black bar on the One M8 and M9.

Moto Z - The phone by itself isn't a bad looker. It just doesn't look as clean as I'd like it to be. The black model looks good, but the white model looks a little goofy with large visible IR sensors and a squared-off finger-scanner on the chin. It's also really thin unless you get the Force, so a Style cover is recommended. The rest of the phone is not too bad, however, though you might have to consider a Motomod or two, which does push the phone closer into S7 territory in terms of price.

That's just my personal list. Your own mileage and thoughts will certainly vary.

Honestly, it's way too early to be putting the V20 on any list. Yeah, we do know it's pretty generic looking from photos and renders but we know nothing about the build quality. So until I get this in my hands I can't rank it among other phones that are out there at this point.

As far as the Note 7 goes, sure its a great looking device if you like a curved display and an all glass build. I have an S7 Edge and about the only thing I like about it is the AMOLED display. I have a case and a screen protector on it just so I don't feel like I'm going to break it. Also, I hate Touchwiz. Yeah, I can install a different launcher on it but still. So, at this point the only reason I'd consider swapping out my S7E for a Note 7 would be for the S-Pen features. Sorry, but the Note 7 just isn't worth the price tag Samsung put on that thing. It's a nice phone but not $1000 nice.

No worries. The Note7 is not for everyone, like everything out there.

I'm still betting on the V20 having its own unique identity in order to have its own dedicated fanbase, the same way the Note has it too. I'm just hoping that the QC issues over at LG have been mostly ironed out at this point.

Well, so much for the V20. Hopefully they will fix it in the V30.

Honestly, I kinda expected LG to go this route after they made the change on the G5. I wish they hadn't but something happened that made them decide to put the volume rocker back on the side of the phone. Negative feedback from users? Who knows. I prefer them all on the back and the sides of the phone clean but it won't be a deal breaker for me.

I don't care about the clean look. Side buttons are an outdated and royal pain.

My V10 is great for now and 7.0 has yet to introduce a wow factor, so I can live without it.

The only good feature on this phone is the second screen. And as much as I love that feature, it is not enough to compensate for the retro buttons.

If side buttons are "outdated" then why are all other Manufacturers, like Samsung, Motorola, HTC, etc.. putting the buttons on the side of the phone? In fact, I think LG is the only mfg. to put all the buttons on the back of their device.

It's like when people say that removable battery, expandable storage, or the IR blaster are "outdated" features. No, its not and neither are buttons on the side of the phone. It's a matter of personal preference.

I mean outdated as in a design standard that has been around for years and has room for improvement. I think that cabled headphones are outdated, but I still have a few pairs for specific needs.

And yes, it does come down to personal preference. And, for me, it is pretty much a deal breaker. This phone has the second screen going for it and that's pretty much it.

So because the G4 and G5 weren't successful means that the V20 is not going to be a good phone? I don't think so. This could be the best phone of 2016 but still have crappy sales. So are we talking about hardware here or sales figures?

Sadly that's how majority of phones are ranked to the public not the techy public. Hands down last year V10 was the best phone if not #1 in most categories at least in the top 3 spots. LG is one to blame because of the marketing department. As much advertising that they did for the G3 did not go forth in any other phone and that's why the phone sales have taken a noise dive. Hopefully they are trying to reinvent themselves.

Note to LG don't be the next HTC. Hiring expensive celebrities for some catchy 30 commercial will not help sale your phone as much as a great unique product that has features the public wants after that is accomplished continue to build off of that that hire that than hire those celebrities. Or I can do it for you 😉😉😉😉

Agreed. I had to go back to my G4 for about a month while I tried to get LG to fix my micro SD card slot, but I gave up because I missed my phone that much.

Now it's going to be with me for a very long time.

Well, they hired a famous celebrity to advertise the V10 and it was a great phone. Not sure how it did sales wise but I'm guessing well enough to warrant them making a V20.

Who? I don't remember seeing any commercials

This looks so much better than the renders. Metal side rail nice. The black out screen makes it look like there are no side bezels. Have to see it with the screen on. Those renders that are out are horrible

The wobble effect is an OIS thing. My Note does it too.

You have to drop back to 1080p to enable hybrid-stabilization to smooth that out. If they could make it work in 4K, that would be sweet.
Yes it is an OIS thing but as of late Samsung and Apple have a much smoother effect with OIS on their phones compared to LG's style. It just needs to be a little less aggressive or find a way to maybe not let the lens float around as much to stabilize video more. 1080p with software stabilization is pretty good though.

LG's degree of compensation is pretty wide. That's great for stills, but has a very noticeable wobble effect.

I think hybrid stabilisation would work well in that case if LG doesn't want to reduce the degree of compensation.

Agreed.... every phone I've owned has had side rockers. Not sure where this outdated thing comes in.

let's not forget the G5 had Jason Statham

Oh yes but they were terrible and confusing. Why not just let Jason Statham be Jason Statham? They need some good stuff cause the marketing and ability to actually back up what Samsung is promoting is real this year.

The phone looks pretty nice, but still hard to tell...at least for a final verdict. I'm a little thrown off by what's in the background...is that the trunk of a car? :-)
