Re: New V30 render... Might not get it. What do you think?

No one that makes flagship devices that matter in the US and no one that even pretends to take privacy and security seriously.
Not sure what privacy and security has to do with the battery (and really don't know if Huawei takes those any less seriously than anyone else), but the point is they put a 4000mah battery in their Mate 9, so it can be done and has.

I have a Huawei MateBook and it's a pretty decent Win10 tablet for the price. They sure have the fingerprint sensor mastered on that thing...lol. Never really looked at the Mate 9 though.

I'm clarifying that 4k mAh has been done before, but not on a single device that matters. The Mate 9 as an example, is made by Huawei, who is failing pretty hard on consumer protection, isn't widely for sale in the US market, doesn't work for most consumers in the US market, and so is largely irrelevant in the US market. That's not important to most of the world, but the majority of our readership is in the US and so clarifying that the 4k mAh battery hasn't happened yet in a mainstream flagship.

Not sure why that's relevant, but ok. My point is that if Huawei can do it, surely the bigger players could pull it off. Also, I was responding to the statement that no one has done it. Someone has, even if (and inspite of) not being one of the major players. I would like to see others do it, and I personally wouldn't mind extra thickness or weight. How about you? Would you be willing to allow extra thickness and weight in order to get a bigger battery? Or no? Everything is a compromise and a balance, and everyone weighs things differently. I'm out in the field most of the time, so my desires may be different than yours.

Yep I agree with you approximately 1 million percent - just clarifying what I think the other person was using as context.

Re: LG V30 ditching 2nd screen

About time. Second screens are such a gimmick. Honestly they should just told the V series into the G line up and make two models similar to what Samsung does. It will be easier to market.
Second screens being a gimmick or not is a matter of opinion. I didn't buy the V20 because of the second screen and find certain elements quite useful. The same could be said about a lot of features on every make or model.

Re: LG V30 ditching 2nd screen

After more reading about the v30 I think it's going to be a newer g6 all out of glass with a amoled screen. Too bad. Guess it's the v20 for now.

It's not always about battery size, but also battery efficiency. You can have an old phone from 2015 with a 4000mAh and a new phone from 2017 with 3200mAh and probably the newer one will have better battery due to more efficient processor chip and software optimization.

I know - more efficient chips and better optimization are welcome advances, but it's these big screens that are the killer. All in all, call me greedy, but I want a bigger battery. I like lots of screen real estate, and nice big batteries to keep 'em glowing. :-)

Re: New V30 render... Might not get it. What do you think?

If not LG, then some other manufacture will bank on this. My friend is hanging on to his Note 4 for his dear life. He said he doesn't know if he'll ever upgrade. Funny thing is he already owns newer smartphones as he's a Samsung phone collector, but uses the Note 4 for it's removable battery. People loved that design: big screen, simple flat glass with removable battery. The Note 4 was a fan favorite, no one cared for the Note 5.

I agree someone will pick up the banner, but that's no guarantee that whoever does it will be able to reach the users who want it, or will be able to do it with any success. It'd be great if Oppo decided to release everyone's dream phone, but if it's only available in one slice of the world and it's filled with all the same compromises then what does it matter?
I also agree that no one cared for the Note 5. The most disappointing Note launch in recent years.

Re: LG V30 Render by Evan Blass

I don't know how I feel about the possible AMOLED screen. It seems most tech reviewers agree that amoled is the superior screen and it stands to reason that it has the advantage against battery consumption.

To my eyes I really don't care for the overly rich colors. Screen burn in. My friend has the S7 and the keyboard it's burnt into the screen bad.

I have a note 5 but no screen burn in and I have had this phone about 15 months

The problem is everyone is trying to beat Apple. Copying their design and it's become a competition of who can make the prettiest phone. Note 5 sucks, I'll take the Note 4 any day.

Re: First look at the V30

I think it's VERY similar to the G6. It's basically what the G6 should have been to begin with - amoled screen and Snapdragon 835

It would be more like a G6 plus because of the size

But is it any bigger than the 5.7" of the G6? Common sense says it will be but even that article in the link only points at 5.7"
I'm going to assume it will have a second screen as opposed to Always On Display

Good point....forgot that the G6 is 5.7....the upcoming mini is supposed to be 5.4
Not sure about the second remaining but I love it on the V20.

Re: Will the V30 be made of all glass??

The irony is I'm around a lot of different people every day. Between commuters, coworkers, people on the street and the different networks of people I associate with. I know almost no one who goes without a case. So what's the point of a glass back?

I'm often tempted to uncase my V20 and I don't because I hate getting It banged up and its made of good old fashioned metal.
Wireless charging?

Re: Will the V30 be made of all glass??

I would prefer no glass and it would be something to make me jump ship with all other features being equal. In the end, it always comes down to the complete package for me. Removable battery, SD card slot, headphone jack, IR blaster, non-paper thin design, and front facing stereo speakers are all things I want in a phone. I typically include an LCD screen in that list because I like the color reproduction better, but I won't deny that AMOLED's are getting more to my tastes. Unfortunately there's nothing on the market right now that ticks all those boxes (at least for Verizon), so I have to find the right balance.
Good luck with that. Are there any good phones with a removable battery?
