Light leakage from ports on bottom of EVO.

same way with mine. there is no light leakage when the bottom buttons are off, because the buttons are creating the leakage, not the screen. it's not a huge deal and i wouldn't worry about it.

Geez, you'd think you'd want light there so you could see where to connect your cords when you're in dimly lit places.

OMG... people need to get over it. It's a phone people. Quit looking for problems and enjoy the damn thing...geez!

I have a rev 0003 model and I have the same light coming out of the ports only when the buttons are illuminated. I also have the slightest bit of light below the HOME and SEARCH buttons in the crease but only if you view it dead-on. Not a big deal since the glass is still flush with the device.

Light Leakage

I believe that my EVO has Light Leakage so I want to get an exchange, I want to know those of you who got their's exchanged for light leakage what did you tell the stores, did you just say you have light leakage and they exchanged it or what?

As long as your screen isn't actually peeling up, a tiny dab of black silicone (about half of a pea's worth) is all you need. Smear it into the bottom edge; don't be afraid to work it into the crack. Have a damp paper towel ready, and immediately wipe off the excess. You can run the paper towel right over the crack as the silicone will stay inside, but don't over-do it or you'll wipe it all right back out. You may see a cloudy haze left behind on the screen where the silicone was; just rub it off with a clean thumb, and finish cleaning the glass with a clean microfiber cloth. The repair will be all but invisible.
Frankly, you can do this all around the screen, but you'll need to work fast so the silicone doesn't start getting tacky and messy, which will not make for a seamless repair.

Total cost: <$5
Total time: <5 minutes
Total satisfaction: priceless

If I had a customer come in for "light leakage", and if there is NO dust present under the screen, I would kick them in the ***.

I'm glad you posted this. I'm gonna do that very soon. Don't want a new phone because a little light is peeping through the bottom. Especially since I don't want to part ways with Shapewriter.... I'm still trying to figure out wtf I'm gonna do when I upgrade to 2.2 cuz it's gonna wipe everything :(

Well, it doesn't necessarily affect function, so I can see your point, but it does make the beautiful Evo look cheap. I had just a TINY bit of leakage under my back button, and I'm too AR to have let it go :) But there was no way I was returning mine when it was otherwise flawless, and the gas and trip time to Best Buy would've cost me more (with no guarantee a replacement would be better). Unlike the iPhone's flawed anenna, this issue with the Evo is just WAY too easy to fix yourself to warrant a return...as long as your screen adhesive isn't failing completely!

It's EASY. Just make sure you get the silicone into the crack so you don't wipe it right back off when you clean the excess.

What brand of black silicone and from where did you buy it?

Thank God I'm a mechanic lol. Got about four tubes of these home lol. I don't know why the hell I didn't think of this before. Thanks again man

You're welcome! Good luck with it. Mine came out perfectly; you CANNOT tell at all. I spread it all across the bottom screen edge up to about half way up the corners...perfect blend.

Jerzyiroc: make sure it's still fresh!
