List of Epic Pros and Cons

went from Blackberry 8703 ---> Palm Pre ---> Samsung Epic.. OK loved my Bberry, went thru torture with my pre - and have to say so far ( two weeks ) extremely happy with the Epic - it pretty amazing all in all... A couple of things are irritating.. would agree with other post-ers that the power switch is in a bad location, secondly it is way larger then any cell phone ive had in years - i dont dare put it in my pants pocket for fear of forgetting its there and sitting down and bending it... also the only major problem i have had is that after a couple of days my notification lights have stopped working.. not sure if its a hardware problem or a app conflict. thats a bit irritating.. but all is all im much happier then my first two weeks with the Pre... also love love love the SWYPE feature.. i hate on screen keybds and this makes it very usable...i only use teh large sldie out keyboard 40% of the time.. and i normally cant stand using onscreen keyboards...

Google Password Reset = Wipe Phone

This is incredible.

If you reset your Google password, you cannot reset/change it in your phone for Syncing Contacts/Calenders. (You can change Gmail - email password.)

The only way to do it is to Re-Set to Factory Spec your Epic, wipe evrything out and start over. This may be the doumbest thing I have ever seen.

I spent sev hours with Sprint Tech support and they didn't have a clue. They had me change the password in email - dah.

Also: THe power cord coming out the top is terrible for mobile aqnd dialing (at least so far) requires you to select the number from a list if your contact has more than one number - just what I want to do while driving.

The alarm notifications from the calender are weak..

I like the phone since I need a keyboard but some engineers must have been asleep when they beta tested this one. I HOPE for some simple OS upgrades to fix some obvious flaws.

I recently had to swap my original Epic with a new one because the screen had too much up and down play with the keyboard, creating a click when I pressed anywhere on the screen. My current Epic's screen will become unresponsive and I have to use the keyboard to operate the phone. I can't even unlock the screen by sliding the circle. I have to open the keyboard.

This happened once before and I struggled for a while before the screen worked again. This time, after at least 20 battery pulls, I'm ready to call it quits. I'm thinking about getting an Evo now.

bah, fwgrizzaald. You know, my epic is not perfect but after exchanging 4 EVOS I realize sometimes you just get duds. But let me reassure you, there are issues with the EVO as well. Once 2.2 comes out for the Epic-- you are going to regret having the evo.

You're probably right. I'm not completely giving up on the Epic, but I am interested in comparing the two personally. I'm still within my 30 days, so I was going to try it out and see how I liked the Evo. I can always go back to the Epic.

Problem is, there aren't any Evo available where I live!!! Lol. Looks like the Epic wins by default.

CONS: The phone pulls your google contact groups, which is great, but again OBVIOUS dumb flaw that you cannot add or edit any of contacts within those groups, so whats the point of having it even pull the groups than? its like saying you cant add to your address book that you have organized...

For those with multiple Gmail accounts, you cannot select which account you want to send the email from at the time of composing, you have to select that mailbox first than compose

Cannot upload multiple pics to facebook, although I don't know if you can with other phones either!

In every camera mode besides the regular, you cannot change the resolution

No built in voice recorder

On my second EPIC and so far both have issues where the end button or buttons on the touch screen don't press the first time

The charging port being on the top is the dumbest idea considering most people use the phone while on the charger and its very uncomfortable and causes the pins to bend

The obvious ones being the touch buttons are very laggy, the battery draining fast

The phone lags big time when uploading a video, sending picturemail and than trying to do anything else at that time

From the touchscreen when you are on the dialpad searching a contact and put their first name there is not a way found I found where you can put a space and put the last name or letter

Call log doesn't show call duration

Call log doesn't show the number of times a particular contact was communicated with (ie on the evo you know that you had 9 calls from joe n shows incoming n outgoing)

when the battery is low it doesnt let you play any videos or use the camera or anything

My capacitive buttons weren't as responsive with Invisishield screen cover, but I fixed that. Dont recall having the same problem with the Evos buttons.

I WANT TO BE ABLE TO SORT MY EMAIL FOR IMAP AND EXCHANGE ACCOUNTS IN A SINGLE APP
BTW: It appears as if (at least for Exchange accounts - I don't have the IMAP account to test it any more) in the Samsung Epic 4G implementation of Froyo, this functionality now exists. YAY!

In regards to the epic,i hate the fact that the speaker is in the back, I could never hear my phone ring, plus the overall volume is pretty low compared to the evo.

Sent from my Ass using Angry Birds app.

I am hovering over the purchase key.... is it laggy? is it as speedy as iphone 4? I am a sprint guy, and an android guy... but haven't had a phone in 3 months because the samsung moments finally broke me and I went back to the stone ages. Using google voice on it (which I need and use) ate the memory and it would take 13 minutes to make a call from laggy venturing into contacts to call to connection. It was the worst phone ever, and i hate samsung.

does this lag? after all these cons that's the only thing I really need to know. THanks ahead of time.

Is there a Droid app that lets you finger roll the cursor between letters. The iPhone can do it, so why can't the Droid????

Its built into the operating system of some phones. HTC Sense 2.0 has it built-in.

Unfortunately Touchwiz does not. Epic does have the directional keys on the keyboard which make this a lot easier. Just flashed Gingerbread to my phone to see if its in GB touchwiz, and it isn't. I don't believe an app could integrate deep enough to apply this feature.

What the Epic and AOSP based devices have is a form of this:

where you can drag that bar to whatever text you want. Color will vary. GB is orange, TW is blue and round.

Swype does this very well to get to the swype text selection tool, swype your finger from the swype key to the SYM key. Your swype keyboard has now become a tool to select text. However it will only select text within a text field. It will not select text in a browser.

Pros: Great clear and colorful screen, powerful hardware, LED notification light, physical keyboard (for flash games mostly) and very fast.

Cons: Samsung
