List of Epic Pros and Cons

I had this problem also. I did a factory restore, and it was working great for about 3 days until it froze again. I went back to Best Buy and got a new one. This one is working much better.

I got a new one this morning and this one has a looser hinge than the last. Gonna give it a few more days and return if it gets worse before my 30 days are up

4G Connectivity?

When I tell you I love this phone I love this phone. I usually get a new phone every month, just cause I like to try them all out, however the Epic 4G should last me a good minute. I will say however, that my only gripe is that I'm waist-deep ina 4G coverage area(Nashville,TN), and I have some connectivity issues, I'm not sure if its due to 4G recently being turned on or if its a phone issue tho.

I waited to buy hoping for a few bugs to be worked out...

I have DI07, obviously didn't wait long enough. If I connect WiFi or 4G my phone requires a reboot within 30 minutes. Nice little screen with 4 lines of blue text with choice to reboot, update firmware, and a couple others... can't change selection... just forced to reboot.

Only app loaded on my phone currently is advanced task killer... I like the phone, but I may take it back anyhow if this is as good as it gets. I've had it 48 hours, and I've just about had it. For what I pay Sprint (Simply Everything Unlimited, Data Pack, Hotspot) the least they can do is provide a phone that works well with the services.

Don't get me wrong. I love this phone, but my major complaint will continue to be:

I WANT TO BE ABLE TO SORT MY EMAIL FOR IMAP AND EXCHANGE ACCOUNTS IN A SINGLE APP

until that's fixed.

It's almost enough to make a guy want to go and get an EVO (HTC's implementation of the default Email application has this functionality, from what I hear).

Capactive buttons are definitely an issue. Mine are terrible. The two middle buttons are the worse: back and home.

If a swap doesn't fix this and no 3G fix is released I will never buy another Samsung Mobile product. I will wait until HTC comes out with their killer, 4G tablet that is officially blessed by Google and skip the Galaxy Crap ...er I mean Galaxy Tab.

Hey so am new to this forum and I just have a question and wondering if other people are experiencing the same thing...

So lets say I have my phone in portrait mode and I tap the option to go to my txt messages. Once there I will open the keyboard and type the message... Okay here is where I think there is a problem... If I press the home button from the keyboard half of my right screen will go black... but like a second later it will go back to normal.

I don't know if this is normal? Like the screen is just trying to adjust or whatever?

It only happens if I do it that way. If I press the back button from the keyboard the screen will remain the same and nothing happens.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Thank you.

That is not normal. Something is wrong with your screen. I would exchange that phone.

I woke up to a lockup up Epic on the charger 4 of the last 6 days. I bought it at Best Buy and they won't exchange it unless they can dupliacte the issue. Anyone else run into problems exchanging phones at Best Buy? It is burning hot in the morning and I have to remove the battery to reset it. I have 1 week left on my 30 day return and want a new Epic before my 30 days are up!

I also purchased my phone from Best Buy, but had no problem exchanging it. In addition, I did it on my lunch hour n didn't have the receipt. The guy asked me why I was exchanging it, and I told him that it kept freezing and locking up. Originally I thought it (freezing & locking up) was due to something I downloaded (I come from BB world), but after doing a factory reset & freezing again after 3 days, I decided to exchange it.

Good luck!!!

Update: I went to a different Best Buy and they exchanged it with no questions! Hope the new one doesn't lock up while charging...

My list of Epic 4G pros & cons:

Pro - The Hardware is amazing, the best available at the moment.
Con - No software is taking advantage of the power. I feel like I own a PS3 in 2006. (out of my hands)

Pro - Exclusive Media Hub Service, and Sprint Apps
Con - All these apps want to run in the background all day and suck the life out of the battery. (Easy fix)

Pro - Records 720p video
Con - Records 720p video in .3gp which i need to convert to edit (easy but still annoying fix)

Pro - By having a keyboard, the Game Gripper would be make this a great retro gaming device
Con - Game Gripper not available yet (out of my hands)

After having this phone for almost a month, I believe this is the best phone in the world right now. It's really gonna take something special to de-throne the Epic.

I'm having a few problems with mine even though I love it. Sometimes, the lock screen is unresponsive and I have to put the phone to sleep and then turn it back on to get it to work. Also, sometimes my screen starts glitching and it starts flickering. Anyone know whats wrong?

Just like wth any phone there can be issues with some devices but not all. I'm having no issues with my epic at all. My moto s9-hd bluetooth headphones work great. Have had no issue since last update, besides a notification coming up saying network lost or something like that to which I just tap retry and everything works. Battery life does suck but I'm always using my phone. Looking to getting a 1750mah battery or something close to it when it comes out. Once Froyo hits this phone it is gonna rock!!!!!

Loving my Epic!!!!!

I agree, I am curious. Do any of you with this phone notice the yellow hue? My girlfriend figured it out for me and said that I had to take it off automatic screen display and increase the brightness and it seemed to work. But why, does automatic, do that to the phone?

Or is it just my automatic that does it-- the Yellow hue.

Here's the truth. I went back to the evo yesterday right before my 30 days expired. I'm not a gamer so i don't need a ridiculous gpu, I'm typing this on swype on an evo, the exact same performance I got on the epic on swype, so there goes the need for a keyboard. And the size of the screen on the evo is just amazing. Btw the quality of the screen is a little less but by no means does it suck. Just my two cents.

Really the on only thing I will miss is DLNA, since I have a ps3, but hdmi connection kind of makes up for that loss.

Oh yeah and I got froyo already.

-EVO 4G-

after my month with this phone i've realised 2 things

the hardware keyboard sucks. its not comfortable to type on for me and misses key presses

the GPS is garbage even with the fix in the stickys

the battery life is eh... hasn't been too much of an issues for me as i've pretty much gotten used to charging it whenever i can.

i'm not gonna bother swapping the phone as there doesn't seem to be a perfect one out there.. im just gonna ride it out and hope for the best (samsung sends out more updates)
