Lock screen widgets with security PIN enabled?

I cant get this to work for the life of me, I have tried everything and nothing works and its making me go crazy, such a simple thing doesnt work with such a "high tech" phone?!? It worked on my iPhone4 , I could have a pin and also use my camera for lock screen- but to access the album u had to enter pin. Why is that so difficult for the S4! I seriously hope they fix this problem soon!

Widgetlocker can do this for you. I guess golocker can access camera as well. Not sure about holo locker haven't tried that recently.

Swipe with widgets and shortcuts is completely useless if it disables security. You will have the same access to your widgets and shortcuts if you disable lock screen all together ! I have the same problem with the new galaxy mega running android 4.2.2 And I chose to secure it rather than use swipe.

All I want is that when I charge my phone, i get a black screen with a big clock on it that i can set to wake me up in the morning. Say what you want about blackberry, but some of it is far more intuitive than these gadget-rich phones. Wish I has bought another torch instead. :(

Download DashClock (free) and set up the the Daydream feature. It will give you exactly what you are looking for.

This is a useless feature.you can always put widgets or shortcuts for quick access and not see any personal info. Samsung needs to learn and shame lessly copy apple or htc if the don't use their own mind.it is adeal braker for lot of people.

Don't think it's correct. Camera or music widget does not give any personal info access. This is samsung's stupidity....my HTC one works just fine

what you are saying is silly.

I can open a window enough for air to get in, but lock it in position on the second floor so that nobody could fit through.

Allowing access to the camera doesn't allow access to my whole phone. I want it to allow access to my camera. That doesn't allow someone else the ability to see my email etc.

Maybe you can leave your front door open so people can come in and see the art in your foyer. As long as the exits to the foyer are locked it is fine. Options are always good. That's why android beats apple. So it is ironic that android has less options. It isn't an all or none thing. If it was, then pin security is lacking and you need even more sophisticated locks and encryption. We all choose the level of security we need.

I find the lock and the swipe screen very cumbersome. Strange it isn't easier to configure and use.

Finally problem solved. This will not give you full control of the camera, but at least you can take a picture.....

Use program called Tasker and create a task to take a picture. You can create separate tasks to either take picture with flash or with out, low res or hi res...or whatever. The only downside is that you will only have 1-2 seconds to aim the camera before the picture is taken.

You can not make the Tasker to simply open the Camera using the "APP / Load App / Camera" when creating the task because it will then ask for the security pin or pattern.

Use "Media / Take picture" and from there select how you want to take picture (resolution, flash, etc....)

Remember that you can do other tasks besides using the camera from your locked screen by using the Tasker. Personally I use the Tasker to safeguard my phone by sending to the phone a text with a specific keyword to make the phone to secretly, with out turning the screen on to take a picture both front and rear camera then send me the pictures with GPS coordinates to me and optionally send a voice trough the phone speaker warning the thief, if that is what happened to the my phone. Also, I can erase the data.

I also want to add that when your phone is locked, the display will not switch to the camera, the picture will be taken silently so you may wish to add a sound or vibrate to indicate if the picture has been taken.

I have the same issue. I use corporate exchange server for email. Samsung does not allow lock screen notifications. It is very annoying. I think I will go back to Iphone,,

Same issue here but on Nexus 4. This is my first experience with Android and I'm very impressed overall but this is a complete deal breaker. If I can't at least see who e-mailed or txt'd me I may as well go back to the iPhone. At least on iOS, as limiting as it is, had this basic functionality and if you then want to reply to someone from the lock screen, the passcode is required. This doesn't compromise security at all and same goes for the camera. Security layering can be very complex yet useful, but Samsung/Google decided to blanket it off completely.

Best solution I found was download smart app protector pro from google play for 1.50, add touchwhiz home as one of the apps to lock, then under default settings tick screen lock off and lock delay +. And make sure reset auto lock is ticked too.

This really worked! I swipe with the cook animation and smart unlock asks me for the password to enter my home screen and never asks me again until I turn off the screen which was a problem I had with the free version

I have galaxy s4 btw

I guess what others are trying to say is that they need their house to have a post box so that when they are out postman can drop their post in. Same goes in iPhone 4 that I use to have, when you use the camera widget from the lock screen you can get in with no password but from there you can not see any previous photos, only photos that you take and as soon as you close it, all is secure again, this means if you click on camera again you can't see any photos at all.

I think that makes life a lot smarter and easier by being able to take photos real quick ;)

Found a solution, LockerPro Lockscreen. It's not a widget as such but it runs over the default lock widget and gives you full notifications and ability to use the camera from the lockscreen without having to enter your passcode. You can even dismiss or action notifications from there as well (but will then ask for passcode)
No reason why Android can't have this built in but I'm happy for now.

It's like what was previously stated in the "locked door, open curtain" analogy. I like the access to my camera, music, keep, etc. But I don't see why they HAVE to go directly to the homescreen if you exit them, rather than to a pascode screen.

You can still have shortcuts to the camera and other apps with a passcode. Just not widgets.

Edit: NVM, I'm wrong Lol

No luck there. It seems as though with a PIN/Pattern enabled, lock screen widgets are disabled; the only ones accessible are the music controls (if music is playing) and the default Samsung time..
but my music controls doesn't always come in lock screen.. :S

No that's complete crap. If you used Dashclock or something like that that's no less secure than anything else. Who cares if you can see little snippets of an email if you can't open it or view them. Instead of having some Apple like approach, they could have offered the option at least. They offer no good widget options in secure mode. You can't see the weather, you can't change the clock font or color, you can't do squat. This is just Samsung forcing you to choose one or the other which is why they as a software company fail. Google even fixed it so that you don't have to see the bar at the top when the time is showing, they even took that away so that you still see both clocks. The main thing I don't like when it doesn't have a secure PIN is that just barely touching the screen or home button in your pocket unlocks it and there's no guide for it to be on, so you end up **** dialing a lot easier. Samsung makes great looking phones but when it comes to software they are horrible and often backward thinking.

Why are you upset by it? It should be common sense that widgets that give direct access to not only the handset, but also the information it contains, are disabled when security is enabled on a device.

I know this is an old thread, but it is the top result on google, so I will post my findings here.

For starters, I have an AT&T Galaxy S4 (SGH-I337) on baseband FB1. What I wanted was a secure (pin, pattern, password, etc.) lock screen with weather and notifications (missed calls, emails, texts, etc.) I've looked in to it pretty extensively and without flashing a custom rom, which in my case can't really be done as my boot loader is locked, it is not something that can easily be accomplished natively in the UI. Simply installing a third-party lock screen and disabling the stock lock screen is NOT secure; every third-party lock screen I've tried (GoLocker, NiLS, etc.) can be easily bypassed by restarting the phone.

I have, however, found two solutions / work-arounds:

1. UNROOTED method:

Configure your stock lock screen with the desired secure lock method. Install your third-party lock screen of choice (yes, I know I just said they are not secure and easily bypassed - bear with me), configure the third-party lock screen with NO security and DO NOT disable the stock lock screen. Configure all the notifications / widgets / shortcuts you want in the third-party lock screen settings.

The end result is an initial lock screen that has all your notifications and widgets on it, that can then be easily swiped away to a screen where you can input your pin / pattern / password. Of the lock screens I've tried I feel GoLocker works best for this method. TIP: For a more contiguous UI experience set the wallpaper for the third-party lock screen and the wallpaper for the stock lock screen to the same image.

2. ROOTED method:

Configure your stock lock screen with the desired secure lock method. Root your phone (if not already rooted) and install Xposed framework (information on how to do this can be easily found on the web). Download, install and activate the "Lockscreen Tweakbox" module for Xposed and tick the "Allow Notifications" checkbox under the "Statusbar" section of the settings.

The end result is the standard secure stock lock screen, but with a notification bar that can now be pulled (swiped) down. This is the method I am currently using and have my status bar configured so that I can see my weather, missed calls, emails, texts, etc. with a simple swipe down on my lock screen.

I feel that, despite not being true, unified solutions, both of these methods work fairly well and accomplish the desired result. I hope this helps.
