Love or Hate your Galaxy Note 3?

There is a thread on here about the screen cracking and I'm positive the person is referring to that. People's screen cracked due to overheating or something else unknown.

Sent From My Samsung Note 3

It seems like rumors like this fly with every phone. I remember with the original re there were rumors of the screen cracking from carrying the hone in a pocket. I personally never had problems with that but it may have been true

I wouldn't dump a phone just because of a rumor of screen cracking personally, and certainly not if I like everything else about the device, unless it was a condition that was well documented, common, and not being addressed by the manufacturer.

At first I loved the Note 3. That was October. It is now nearly April and I have found too many things NOT to like. Everytime I try to do a simple video with the camera app the videos show up in My Files with a lightning bolt icon and return a message saying "Sorry, this video cannot be played." In 5 months I've never been able to save a video. I have taken it back to the Verizon stores a number of times but they piddle about for 1/2 an hour till more customers show up and then give up. I have searched these forums but they return searches for all kinds of non Note 3 devices and are about different issues, mainly YouTube, which I have no problems playing either with the YouTube app or the Chrome. It's the Samsung camera app and Gallery which are faulty somehow. I've tried saving to Internal and SD storage with the same results. File management is primitive at best, I can use different apps to view photos and videos and they find images squirreled away by application instead of by file type or any customizable folder structure.

My conclusion is that Google, Samsung, and Verizon do not cooperate to make a customer friendly app, instead are fighting one another for user attention at the end users expense. My next purchase will be Apple. Only one vendor, not 3 pointing fingers at one another. Wish I could get rid of this crappy Note 3. The Verizon store tries to get you to buy more SD cards and apps or shrugs and walk away. You never know if you are with a knowledgable person or not until they open their mouths and then it is too late to switch.

Interesting....I just finished a video of my grandson at bat in his baseball tornument....played just fine. I have a Verizon Black Note3. Maybe you have a faulty memory card. have you tried using a different one? I use SanDisk 64gb Ultra....works great

That sounds awful, and I'm constantly taking videos and photos, so that would be a huge issue for me. I've got over 2600 photos and videos on my sd card and have no problems viewing any of them.

Your phone is still under warranty. If it hasn't worked right from day 1 why would you continue to put up with it 5 months in? You've got 14 days on Verizon to return it, you better know if I got a phone that didn't work I'd exchange it for one that does! It's not too late for you; get on the phone with Samsung.

You said Verizon plays with it until more customers show up, then they give up. Why is that OK with you? Tell them to either fix the phone or give you one that works. I can't believe you'd just accept no for an answer for 5 months...

"Samsung Galaxy - Cracked Screen Defect, not dropped, Note 3 & Note 2, S4 & S3" - 172 posts on that one from 4th November.

Edit: *Yeah I can see why Alain A did sell. Said he would, post #167. I read many of the posts. Bad treatment by Samsung to quite a few people is what I picked up, 3 month only screen warranty, etc.*

Yeah tbh there was also a similar thread on the S3 forums from ways back, that was years ago so it seems like an unresolved issue. I was worried back then too but thankfully 14 months with my S3 and my phone is unscathed. Hopefully this Note 3 is just as lucky and doesn't crack.

When I had this problem with my Note 3 it turned out to be an sd card that was buggered. Even if I was not saving to the sd card I was still having problems.

Since replacing the sd card (or actually since removing the buggered sd card) I have not had one single problem with taking/viewing/editing my photos and videos. This I'm thankful for because I constantly take photos and videos with my phone and it upset me when I would lose them. (This was also the main reason why I set up Dropbox to back up my photos and videos immediately).

I've seen a couple of people posting on here about the same problem since I've been a member (December 2013 I believe) and with them the issue was resolved when they removed the sd card.

Sorry you're having such a problem. I do hope you manage to get it resolved.

Sarks.

Absolutely love my Note 3... coming from the Note 2 the 3 is sooooo much of an improvement, especially the screen quality and the S-Pen improvements.

Would never again look at a standard smartphone again, phablet all the way....

I am seriously thinking about either going back to a Note 2 or switching to another brand phone altogether. Since the update to KitKat I can't write to my SDcard and most of my apps can't either without rooting and tripping the Knox flag. I plan to get a smart watch this summer and don't want to be tied down to Samsung with their Gear watches either. I find that I rarely if ever use the S-pen, multi-window, or other unique Note 3 features anyway.

AC should start a poll or a thread with Samsung KK updaters just posting what model and carrier, or world r?gion, whether installation has been fully successful, mildly successful (ie glitches were eventually sorted out) or a complete pigs ear. <bearing in mind there may be simple - ish fixes for some that they're unaware of, or have not tried >.
Also would it not be informative to post roughly when the firmware was available and installed, as maybe later firmware version numbers had extra patches etc.

I don't know enough to start a thread. My update was largely successful on 15th March.

Like with @kj11 I was thinking of asking why as well. I remember someone put a thread on this happening.
Happy to hear if Alain you noticed a tiny crack or something, and thought it might spread.
I respect your decision, and it's easy to make jokes about it, more likely to experience a meteor strike etc..
You did what was best for you. Maybe you will buy another at some time.
Still missing it I bet.

yep

I don't know why nobody ever made it as a sticky thread......at $750.00 per phone, this is pretty serious that Samsung doesn't stand behind their product....

I love it and hate it for most tasks i find the screen to big and can't use 1 hand which can be frustrating at times but what i love is speed and the screen display which is great for watching videos.

I am still contemplating returning it and waiting for a new HTC or s5.

that's a phone to use 2 hands for most of the time.....some of the feature were pretty good tho...

I can open apps, or net, and scroll one handed- but typing and dialing no, unless on a table which I do a lot. I should adapt to calling from speed dial widgets or swiping contacts, but I don't talk much.

As I posted later - I read a lot, but not all of that thread, including your posts. How many do you figure had that issue in that thread? Some were other Samsungs but yes there seemed quite a few. You handled the thread well.
Your decision was probably more to do with p--- poor replacement cover on that aspect and Samsung trying to dodge the bullet.
Real shame. I didn't get if it was happening soon after purchase, or can happen 6 months in.
Stay posting. :)

My guess would be that this anomaly has shown up in less than 1% of the phones manufactured. Should Samsung stand by it? Sure.

It just perplexes me that you'd give up a phone you like because of something so rare. Do you not buy cars for fear they may breakdown?

Standing back, thats what I would think. But if I paid full launch retail price and I started reading all those stories as they were increasing, and maybe was not sure if I might be happier with a different phone, I would think about getting as much of my money back as I could before it turned into a doorstop.

Simply amazing...WOW, how did I miss this thread. Just checked my Note3 for any kind of crack, happy to report none so far, but as I read thru this thread it appears that it could happen at any time without me dropping the device. I did put an iLoome tempered GLASS screen protector on my Verizon Note3 hope that helps. I would hate to just wake up to my screen being crack without me doing anything to cause it. The sad part about all of this is Samsung won't admit that there is a flaw in the screen making process thats causing "crackage". Trust me they already know about the defect.
