I was just testing my camera on my dog resting next to me. not much to see, but when I looked at the shot there was a button that said "view motion photo" so I pressed it. what I saw was the moment my dog sighed because he doesn't like pictures, even with flash off. so cool!!!

While the image is playing tap on it and slide your finger left and right to go frame by frame. At the top you will see capture. It will take that still frame and save it. Good for if someone closes their eyes during a picture, you can move it back a couple frames to where their eyes are open and save it. Just an fyi if you didn't already know.

Is this on by default or is this an option you turn on? Also I wonder if it enabled/disabled depending on the carrier.

Go to the settings in your camera app and you should see motion photos. Turn that on.

Edit: Make sure you are on Photo or it may be grayed out.

yes. that's what I did while checking out the settings. wanted to figure out what it did.

btw, the photo in the screen cap won't win any awards, but it was taken in extremely low lighting, no special settings. I think, but not positive because I was testing modes, it was the single leaf mode.

Found it! Page 119 in user manual. Closest thing to my phone so far, hehe.
afterward I was given the option to save a video and I chose to. it's really cool to see that action that I saw, but that otherwise would have been lost if not for this setting.

this camera kicks butt on all counts. absolutely thrilled with it.

on a side note. you are so calm about this phone issue you're having. can't believe you still don't have your phone in hand. it is beyond ridiculous by now.

Check the Best Buy thread in a bit I have an update posted just waiting for it to get approved for some reason, LOL.

since it's short, quick shot just before the actual shot I see no reason for it to affect the battery anymore than a normal shot would, except that it's more like two shots. didn't bother checking it because I don't care about my battery. it's almost always on a wireless charger if I'm not using it. and if I'm not with my wireless charger I'm charging in my car.

still so calm. I would be screaming at them by now... I was foaming at the mouth, but not at them, with my Note 8. that's why I didn't give them my business this time. that and they wanted me to walk in my trade-in, which is no longer easy.

The note 8 had this feature as well, it's great! Very helpful when taking pictures of moving kids ha

It's a short video before the actual shot, not just a second still shot. But more importantly, if it's letting you view and save what happened shortly before you pressed the shutter button, that means it has to be recording a brief clip continually (since it doesn't know when you're about to press the button). I'd expect that to use a substantial amount of battery power.

how did I not know this?! oh well, I was pretty sick most of the time I owned the Note 8. going on the same with the 10+ now.
