Lte 4g eta

I am also one sad panda over all of this. I bought the XOOM thinking the sd card and lte upgrade was just around the corner like they worded it. I also thought since this is vanilla android they would be rolling out awesome updates and bug fixes. We have 3.1 with a still buggy browser and no sd or lte love.

I dont think MOTO will get anymore of my money, I dont care how much I love the XOOM for how it well it is made and how it works or how sturdy my DX and solid the wifes D2 is. Between the locked bootloaders on the phones, no sd or lte love on the XOOM what is the point of being a loyal customer?

I may be quiet on the forums I read and visit, but I am not quiet when it comes to recommending devices to my customers, friends, and family. Nor am I quiet when I talk to VZW and let them know about how unhappy I am about updates and such. I will take my money elsewhere. Seems this is the only way companies will listen.....

I just like all of you jumped on the bandwagon and bought the zoom first day out. I do know some vzw product placement people who have sent there zooms to moto. As this is the first device that you have to send in to get upgraded who knows when we will get it but, if its anything like the priceing on the phones ie.. droidx dropping price a month before the dx2 comes out.... verizon is know for there product qa.. give them time as for me I wouldn't want my Xoom to be useless like the thunderbolt cause of the rebooting issues just food for thought

Not true at least on the Asus Transformer I tried it with. Both hot swappable and there is a nice little notification/browse icon for it when one is inserted.

BTW: yes this is my first post. Landed here because of the very issues being discussed.

I bought mine at launch as well and i feel totally misled and lied to. The LTE and SD card support were coming in "just a few short weeks"... that was months ago.

The OS with the 3.1 update is just now about where the OS should have been for a release product, not the crash prone fiasco 3.0 was.

If I sound bitter, it's because I am. I know the various fanboys will say that it's verizon's fault or motorola's fault. I blame all 3, google, moto and verizon.

If i don't get LTE and SD support by the end of this month, it's going back.

BTW: Someone else mentioned that Q2 was just getting started. By what calendar? By mine end of June is the END of Q2.

Sorry for the rant, not directed at anyone here.:-\

Crashprone fiasco? LOL I get more crashes/lock ups on core apps with 3.1 than I ever had on 3.0. You cant compare third party apps because for the most part they were not/are not optimized.

Q1: Feb/Mar/Apr
Q2 May/June/July
Q3 Aug/Sept/Oct
Q4 Nov/Dec/Jan

Almost every business put there does a fiscal year Feb - Jan not Jan -Dec. As I said earlier in the thread if I don't hear something bu the end if July I will start to worry. Until then as far as I am concerned they are taking the time to get it right.

The Transforemer's SD card works because Asus (and apparently Samsung) wrote their own code OUTSIDE Honeycomb as a work around to make it work. It still isn't implemented *natively* by Honeycomb which is what Motorola is waiting for since this is a completely STOCK device. That is squarely on Google's shoulders to do.

I'm willing to bet they're probably waiting on the second gen LTE radios for efficiency. With as fast as LTE can kill a Thunderbolt from Full - Zero.. imagine the Xoom, that now has pretty great battery life.

Just because the SD card works does not mean it is implemented. Sure you can use it with these kernels, but it's not hot swappable, nor are all of the features of a typical SD slot there. It's not as easy as just turning it on.

I understand. But are you telling me that with all the resources Google has at it's disposal, it can't at least give a time line?

Ok,
so... to your points,
1. I am only using "tablet " apps. Besides the ipad doesn't have those types of issues with iphone apps

2.Yes there is some variation in when Q1 starts for companies, but I'd hardly say most and more like a few. Regardless, July is hardly the "few weeks" that was promised

3. The xoom being a completely "stock device" is a myth. Aint no such animal yet. The only thing motorola is was first to market.

4. I see google, motorola and verixon when I look at my xoom. They all are to blame

Like I said, fanboys make excuses, (and you seem to be either verizon or moto)r eal buyers got screwed so far...

few weeks and 5 months are not that big of a difference lol

I can see it now, people are going to give up on waiting for this thing to do what it is supposed to and sell it, 2nd hand owner are going to have to pay for the LTE upgrade because they are going to say that the upgrade was for the original owner only

Last time I looked at the stats, more than two thirds of US public companies were on a 12/31 fiscal year in which Q1 runs 1/1-3/31, Q2 runs 4/1-6/30, etc. If they say "before the end of the second quarter," they mean on or before June 30. Moto is on a 12/31 fiscal year but has moving quarter ens that differ from the usual dates but only by a few days.

When a big company makes a public announcement and refers to quarters they are talking regular annual quarters. Q1 is Jan/Feb/March, etc. If we were listening to their investment call then we would be talking about their fiscal quarters which is determined by when their fiscal year starts, which can be anything they want.

Either way you slice it we are over 90 days and I'm getting a honeymoon is over vibe. Not saying I don't love my Xoom or wouldn't recommend it to a friend, I would but it would be hard to justify the $800 price tag if the product is completed after its already obsolete.

The Xoom and Honeycomb are starting to appear like place holders for Tegra3 tablets and ice cream sandwich, not that, that is horrible. They had to start somewhere and its been fun so far, it would be more fun with LTE.

is standard business speak. Yes technically businesses can use whenever they want for their fiscal year but this is what Verizon has always used.

Everyone wants it to be sooner yes, I do too but when the Xoom was announced and released the original version of the Bionic was supposed to be released in April, clearly they have had some setbacks and said end of Q2 (which usually means the beginning of Q3, but I digress) so they have time to get it right.

Do you really want a buggy upgrade or one that works correctly?

When any company makes an announcement citing a quarter unless they say "our 2nd quarter" , etc. they are referring to regular calendar quarters, not their fiscal quarters. Actuality people who work there probably use regular calendar quarters unless they work in accounting.

There are no NEXUS tablets yet but yes the Xoom is a completely STOCK device just as the original Moto Droid was a year and a half ago. It's the prototype Honeycomb tablet and what most of your tablet apps have been tested on and most will continue to be (though many devs will now start to use the Google I/O Galaxy Tab 10.1.s they got for free).

And just because an app is listed in the market as being a tablet app does not mean that it is tested by Google to be so, it merely means the Dev has stated they upgraded or wrote it for tablets and to take advantage of the larger screen. Honeycomb is completely new and until recently there was only ONE device to test it on and until an app gets out to the masses you can never really find all the bugs and get them ironed out. That takes time.

The only apps that GOOGLE can be held responsible for are the ones that come preloaded on the tablet like the browser, gmail, etc.

I'm starting to get a bit impatient as well. The only thing keeping quiet is the fact I don't live in a 4G area yet. However, that is supposed to change this summer.

I often travel to 4G areas and it would be nice to have some 4G love for my Xoom.

Motorola/Verizon -- Where is my 4g?

Well this is what I suspect the issue to be anyway. Verizon is just now starting to get more aggressive in their roll out of 4G. The network is still basically in beta. They are likely limiting the devices certified on the network.... after all,Verizon does not even have an established 4G rate plan for tablet devices yet, Motorola is likely stuck waiting on them for the update.

Don't forget the OS. BTW, didn't I see you at the Verizon convention? Weren't you the one with the big brown smudge on your nose? J/K. But I do bet you think their tiered data plans are a bargain. Whoa now, let's just reign in the Moto-Google-VZW praise as we don't want to encourage their abhorrent behavior.

That is certainly not true. Because management at all levels are governed by the fiscal goals of a company, any company announcements or goals typically refer to the fiscal calendar of a company as well.

Keep in mind that most press announcements are just as much for the sake of the shareholders as they are for consumers.

Defending every single dubious point multiple times just proves one thing, you are an irrational fanboy.
especially when it's so easy to look up. All 3 companies have Jan 01 to December 31 fiscal, sales and dog years for that matter.

The point is the xoom is a product that was released before it was ready, is buggy and is still missing key features over 5 months after released and all 3 companies have been less than forthright about it.

The sales literature at the Verizon store (the catalog about all their services) still says (as of a week ago) "spring 2011" for the 4G upgrade. That leaves VZW a few weeks still. I hope that's still true (as their sales people keep saying when I ask).

Not that this should be a debate about fiscal year ends and quarters, but you are mistaken. In the business world when referring to the quarters Jan 1 through March 31 is Q1, April 1 to June 30 is Q2, etc. Most businesses (65% of US publicly traded companies) have the calendar year (Jan 1 - Dec 31) as their fiscal year.

Verizon, Motorola, and Google all operate on a calendar year end as evidenced by their annual reports at the links below.

Verizon Annual Report

Motorola Annual Report

Google Annual Report

So when Motorola, Verizon, or Google say something will be coming out in Q2 it can only be implied that they mean it will be out sometime between April 1st and June 30th. Trust me on this one, I am a CPA.

For further proof here is Verizon's Quarterly filing.

No, you can pre-order on June 8. They won't be released until an unannounced date this summer.

The 10.1 tabs coming out next week are WiFi only.
