Manually Update to LG8 unrooted phones only.

Mine does same thing here...

I exported the file from dropbox to extsdcard
And went into ASTRO to verify it was there, but when I go into recovery it says cant mount sdcard.

Is your phones sd card formatted with fat32? If not, you need to format to fat32.

ah ok, i thought i got gypped. Thanks! Update worked like a charm once i found a microsd lying around. Great to have brightness slider finally. For some reason it turned off "packet data" so i had to turn that back on to use 3g. Thanks guys.

Did the manual update last night and it works flawlessly. Had to restore universal search again but no big deal there. Incredible signal improvement here in Dallas area.

Re: Manually Update to GL8 unrooted phones only.

Download the following update zip and place it on your external sd. Go to settings/security and make sure unknown sources is unchecked.

Shut off phone. Press volume up, power and home button at the same time. As soon as you see a flash, let go of the buttons. This will put you in stock recovery. Using the volume bar to select and power button to activate, select update from sd card. Choose the file you previously put there. Push your power button. Your update will begin.

This is only for those with STOCK unrooted phones with STOCK recovery.

Edit: Changed internal sd card to external...

after the update it seems that options for choosing a different type of network is gone. I have at home dual band router and I did setup by default to using 5Ghz networks. Now I'm at place where they offer free wi-fi, but I can't find the network because is not a 5Ghz one. Then I try to switch to 2.4 or Auto but under wi-fi settings I don't have that optiond anymore.
Can anybody check and see if you guys have that options after LG8 update?

Thanks

What's stock recovery? Do all s3 have it built in

Unless you have rooted your phone and changed the recovery you have the stock recovery.

To get into stock recovery, press and hold volume up, power and the home button at the same time. Watch the screen and when you see a flash, release the buttons. Your phone will boot into recovery.

This IS a sprint forum, and Yes it is for Sprint only. This is the update currently being pushed ota by Sprint.

So if you haven't purchased additional storage card, no way to do this?

Correct. I would highly recommend you getting a micro sd card. I use mine to put all my pictures and music. The nice thing about this phone is that unlike previous phones, we get to use all of the internal storage for apps, unlike before where we only got 1 or 2 GB of core app storage with the rest being moved to a sd card if present. That just slows game loading times down since the internal memory is always faster than an sd card. Also, with cheaper sd cards it would lead to apps getting corrupted. We now can use the internal storage for games and other apps exclusively. The camera app is even nice enough to ask if we want to store our pics on the sd card....all around, a huge improvement.
