Microsd card will not automatically mount after restart

I bought a 32gb card a couple weeks ago and it seemed to work just fine at the beginning. I was using Android File Transfer and an entire folder of music was accidentally wiped off the card. So I reformatted the card to be safe.

Now I've encountered a new problem in which I have to go into the settings and mount the microsd card every time I restart the phone. It's annoying to say the least as past android phones I've had automatically mount the card without a problem.

So I'm guessing it's either a problem with the card that I need to get replaced. Or there is a setting within ICS I'm not aware of that will automatically mount the card.

Any help would be appreciated. I've searched and was unable to find any other thread on the topic. Thanks in advance!

How long did you wait. It doesn't show a notification in the status bar that its being read or mounted. You just gotta wait. Takes a little time for my 16gb so it will be longer for anything larger.

When I restart I don't get any notification in the status bar that the card is being read or mounted. I know what this looks like from previous androids I've owned. So I usually don't wait, go into settings, and mount the card. It only takes a few seconds and it's mounted.

If I restart and don't do anything, it's not until minutes or hours later that I notice it's not mounted because my music and pics do not show up in the player or gallery. That's when I go into settings and mount the card.

There is no notification is what I'm saying. It's mounting though. You just don't see it for whatever reason to HTC.

It can take a very long time for a large card with lots of media to be "ready" to use sometimes, since the media service seems to crawl through the sucker looking for pictures and music and etc.

OP: Another thing you might try is to reformat the card while it is in the Evo LTE, perhaps the filesystem became damaged.

No it is not mounting. I am having the same issue as the OP. My EVO 4g LTE has stopped automounting the SD after a boot. So if my phone restarts for whatever reason the SD will not mount unless I manually go through the steps. I never used to notice this was happening so now my internal storage is filled with pictures (taken from camera while no SD mounted).

I have a 32GB SD card, but it only takes seconds to mount. 2 or 3 seconds tops. It does not matter how long I wait after a restart, days and weeks have gone by, it will only mount when I manually mount it. I have been searching for a solution for months. Formatting did not solve.

Thanks in advance for any tips

Did you ever find a solution? I have same issue- I am sure it is some small header or something that gets wonky from mounting on PCs or something simple. I have a 64GB card I can't format it and move data every time this occurs too much of a hassle.

So I fixed this issue on my HTC Amaze 4G! I spent a lot of time on it and finally it seems that when there are certain apps with tons of files it prevents the card from mounting.

I cleared off ALL apps from internal storage and put them on the phone. No effect.
I cleared all caches and deleted some apps and had over 8GB free on internal storage but external SD still would not mount.
I used a storage analyzer and that helped show some apps that contained a lot of files.
What finally led to my solution was using the Cleaning Tools in the excellent and worth every penny "FX File Explorer"
During the scanning process it would seemingly get stuck scanning certain folders.

My main 3 apps that caused this were Trimble Outdoors Navigator Pro, BackCountry Navigator Pro, and Torque ODBII automotive monitor.
I noticed the files were in a hidden directory that started with a dot like .trimble- some were not hidden.
I uninstalled the apps, deleted the folders, and the external SD began to mount again. ( I did not uninstall Torque just deleted the logs and turned off trip logging in the app)
I re-installed all of those apps and it continues to mount.
I noticed that Trimble no longer had all of my trips in it which is fine- they are there if I want to download them (logged in and all trips get synced to an online account)
BCN Pro I never use
Torque I use but I had it set to log every trip I made and it had a ton of logs.

I don't know why this works but it does.
If it stops mounting again I will report back- I am going to move apps off internal storage to phone storage and use the phone normally.

Hope this helps someone out there. Sure was getting to be a pain for me to pop the card in and out every time.

:)

FYI- My miniSD card:
SanDisk - Mobile Ultra 64GB microSDXC Class 6
Memory Card SDSDQY-064G-A11A

Just an update- few weeks later and still mounting perfectly. Only 5.2GB free on main storage so it is clearly an issue with number of files in certain folders. I have also realized how much time and frustration this issue caused me now that it is fixed!
whew.

O
