Missing area code in SMS

I am trying to start a new SMS thread, and when I type someone's name, I can see there's an area code attached, but when I press on the number, all I get is the phone number minus the area code.... resulting in a failed send. I can't seem to find a setting for this. I am rooted with Paranoid Android 4.1.2, I will restore if I have to, but it isn't very convenient at the moment. So am I missing something?

I know my wife sends txt's back and forth all day long with people from many different area codes. I haven't heard any complaints from her and trust me she would be complaining if it was an issue

FWIW, she's stock JB 4.1.1/Sprint version.

I restored back to when I initially flashed my ROM, no change. I then deleted the phone number, then re-added it and it seems to work now. Problem solved.
