Modified CWMrecovery for Odin (DJ05/DL09) Plus new root instructions (Updated 1/15)

Ok so here is what I have. I have only been able to get into cwmrecovery right after I install the cwmrecovery_DJ05_DL09.tar.md5 and then booting to recovery applying the sdcard:update.zip. After I get into cwmrecovery I apply the sdcard:update.zip again and then install su-2.3.6.1+busybox1.19.zip. I reboot the phone and am not able to get back into cwmrecovery unless I start the whole process all over again.

Am I missing a step?

Also when I install the cwmrecovery_DJ05_DL09.tar.md5 it is only taking 30 seconds...

Try starting over this time use a kernel as kevin suggested...30is about right

I haven't even gotten to the part about the kernel. I am still trying to just do a backup from rom manager. Should I try and just backup and install the new rom from cwmrecovery before I reboot after applying the sdcard:update.zip and the other file?

when it boots to regular recovery you hit apply update.zip, when you are in cwm you go to apply zip from sd and choose the ROM

The kernel won't affect the backup.the backup doesnt backup kernel or radio. Don't flash the rom yet.make sure CWM is functional first

so I don't need to apply the update.zip and the su-2.3.6.1+1busybox1.19.zip then reboot, open up rom manager and try and install the rom that way? Your telling me to apply the update.zip and the su-2.3.6.1+1busybox1.19.zip and then install the rom before booting?

Shut down. Reboot into revcovery.hit apply sdcard update.zip. If you are in green recovery. You are good

I can not get back into cwm. If I use odin to install it again then I can get in there only if I try and boot into it before I let it boot up all the way.

So what does that mean?

Go back to what kevin said, flash odin again, and when you get to clockwork recovery flash one of Adranalynes kernels

So I got it figured out. I miss the part on the first post that stated that the cwm get removed every time you reboot unless you also flash a new kernel. So after applying the su-2.3.6.1+busybox1.19.zip, I also flashed a new kernel and now I get a red recovery screen and then I am able to get into green cwm successfully every time now.

wait what, how are you getting a red recovery screen, im confused now lol

Sorry, just got back to this thread... If you don't flash a new kernel before the boots up after flashing CWM, the stock kernel will overwrite CWM.

Does flashing (same as installing?) CWMrecovery wipe your phone? I have quite a few apps and app data and was hoping to do a Titanium Backup before flashing CWM and then doing a Nandroid backup before I flash a new ROM.

Am I correct in assuming that Rooting and then flashing CWMrecovery doesn't wipe your phone? But flashing a new ROM does?

Flashing CWM does not wipe your phone.

Flashing a rom does but only to a certain point there may be lingering files that sometimes cause conflict that is why it is advised to do a data/cache wipe before install a rom

Man my head is spinning. Always an adventure when you start playing with 3rd party firmware on any kind of device.

I see others have had the same issue with not being able to boot into CWM. On my original root/flash (starting from OTA DLO9) everything seemed to work fine even through I let the phone boot all the way after flashing with Odin. I flashed CWM via ROM Manger.

I can't recall if I every tested CWM recovery but I was able to make ROM backups via ROM Mgr.

I went to do that same thing last night and got the file signature verification error that others have mentioned in this thread.

I believe this started on my phone because I flashed a stock DL09 kernel to get haptic back. (which worked)

So I'm going to start 'over' with the instructions in post #4 here: http://forum.androidcentral.com/537336-post4.html and use the files in that post. It will be with a different different CWMrecovery file (at least different name) and a different kernel. The one referred to as 'generic' instead of 'stock'. (DJ05_DLO9_kernel.zip instead of DL09_stock.zip).

Hopefully at the end I'll have a full rooted and flashed phone with working haptic and able to boot into green recovery.

Update:

I followed the instructions to the letter (including 'flashing' root) and my phone is working, has haptic feedback and I can backup ROMs again.

*** Uh oh... spoke too soon. I still can't cold boot into clockwork 'green' recovery. I've tried 4 times now.

I did the clockwork flash right out of Odin like the instructions said. I got the green recovery screen and followed the directions to apply the three files.

Any ideas? (sorry to be a pain)

I'll verify that I used the right files and try it again but I was pretty careful to grab the right files and put them in a new folder so as not to get confused with the files from my first root/flash.

Odin is only taking about 7 seconds to run. Here is the output:

The file I'm pushing via Odin is CWMRecovery_DJ05_DL09.tar.md5

Still trying to push CWM and get into green recovery on first boot. . .
