Modified CWMrecovery for Odin (DJ05/DL09) Plus new root instructions (Updated 1/15)

My freaking bad . . .

Apparently the first reboot after Odin IS into Android (blue) recovery, then once you apply update.zip you end up in 'green' recovery to install the root package and the kernel package. (and that is how it worked for me).

And a little more reading. . . and Ah Ha! To boot into clockwork recovery you boot into blue (2e) recovery and run update.zip. Till now I assumed that holding up and down + power keys was supposed to take you right into Clockwork recovery.

Now rebooting into recovery in ROM Manager works and I go to clockwork recovery.

I'm now rooted, de-bloated (via freezing in TiBu) running Swype beta, de-binged, and running the default browser (no Bing) from the Canadian Mesmerize, and my soft search button brings up Google and Google Voice search.

Maybe I should mention that this is how you enter CWM every time in my tutorial I can see how that assumption can be m made

Folks, I modified the Odin package that installs clockwork recovery so that it *should* work on any future versions without reflashing kernels, and without rooting your device.

Adrynalyne,
Thank you. Samsung phones may suck for software updates, but they are sure easy to open up to the development community.

ok, this way is easier than i thought. i flashed back to stock again, (yes i have problems) then i droped superdark rom on my sd card, flashed red cwm in odin, booted into recovery and flashed superdark. superdark is already rooted. that was super easy. red cwm is awsome.

Wow, I can not thank you enough! After getting the OTA update I was screwed. GPS would work great but no bluetooth or txt or vib. Fixed one thing then the other would not work. And finally I found you! Dude thank you so much. My girlfriend will be happy as I can spend time with her again, after I root her Fascinate next. Now just waitin on Froyo or Ginger.

YOU ROCK ! ! !

Adrynalyne THANK YOU! I tried loading CWMR, but I got consistent "FAIL!" from Odin. Loaded CWMR Red and Odin blessed my FASCN8. I am looking forward to discovering more about my phone. Getting the intestinal fortitude to try some ROMs and kernels. Any recommendations? The leaked FROYO?

I have not been this interested in software or firmware since I took PASCAL in high school. Oops I might have dated myself.

So I rooted my phone. Then got the DL09 OTA update. I still have my superuser icon (thus I am still rooted).

So where do I pick up? I think I have the most current drivers, I have odin But I am not sure if it is Red or Green. What .tar files do I flash to my phone to get CWM? Then from there I can run the ROMs to clean my bloatware?

This forum is awesome and I have always found great help on here. Any help this time is super appreciated.

Out of habit I flashed ClockworkMod Recovery when I opened up ROM Manager will this replace the CMR I just did with ODIN? Is it even a different type? Sorry for the noob question and thanks for the help!

question.. just wanted to make sure because i wanted to make a backup before starting on roms and such:

so does the method provided in the OP leave me with stock or a slightly modified kernel?

thank you
