Moto DX to GSIII: Who Else?

i also came from the droid x.. waited in line like an idot to get this phone on launch day. LOL was my first smartphone and was extremely excited. It was a good phone in the beginning. but after a year. it started with the reboots, and freezing. had to do alot of battery pulls. then last 6 months i had phone. it slowed down tremendously. it took 15 seconds from the time i dial the phone number before it actually connect to a ring.. not good incase of an emergency. my battery pulls became a daily thing sometimes twice a day. But I love my new phone.. what a huge difference even from when my X was good..looking forward to learning all this phone can do

Same here. Except I've had two large black dots on my screen for about a year now after a fall down the steps. This phone has taken a beating and I can't wait to get my GSIII on Tuesday!

You should have tried doing a factory reset or sbf'ing it. Always fixed my x when it would act funky.

I have Vortex reloaded on my phone and I still get the hesitation when dialing once in a while and my GPS still reboots sometimes while driving. If a ROM can't fix the problem then I have to believe it's the phone itself. Time for a new one.

Count me in. I got my Droid X on launch day, 2 yrs ago. It was my first smartphone.

It's been a great phone but is starting to show it's age. Many of the things mentioned above plagued me too. Sluggish, random reboots, camera app quit working, takes 30+ seconds to place a call after I dial the #, the hard buttons are getting soft - not as responsive as day one.

I also had an issue with my battery 6 months ago. It started to consistently skip 50% when it would discharge. It would go straight from 60% to 40% within a few minutes. Turns out that some of the cells in the center of the battery has burst. Laying it flat on a table will show that it wobbles. I ordered two $5 replacement batteries on amazon. They worked great but one of them is starting to slightly bulge in the middle again. The same thing happened to two people at work too.

If anyone plans to keep you DX for another year or two, I would get 2 or 3 replacement batteries now while you still can.

To answer your questions...
"So anyway what are you folks doing to prepare to switch over? I'll Backup my 32gb SD card first"
Nope. Just going to start from scratch, reuse/reformat the SD card from my Droid X.

"What are you going to do with your old DX?"
Keep it for backup, testing for android app development, maybe *MAYBE* give it to my 10 yr old son to use as a WiFi device and for AppInventor app development (he's created a couple apps already).

"What will you miss most about your DX?"
It's very solid build. I've had to swap the battery out almost everyday for last 6 months to make it through a day. The X battery door is very well built, unlike the SGS3 door. I'm hoping I don't have to swap batteries on the SGS3 but I have a feeling that I will. I use my phone too much.

"Anyone considering not opening the GSIII and doing an eBay trade for the RAZR MAXX HD when its released?"
Nope. Gonna keep it as a backup.

I too am going from a DX to an S3.

Had more than a few issues with my DX and did more than a couple Factory Resets.

Really looking forward to the improved performance of the S3 and seeing how Samsung & Verizon do things like updates.

I will be retiring my DX tomorrow when my S3 arrives. This was my first smartphone coming from a LG Dare haha. Moto has fantastic build quality, signal strength, and call quality. I haven't had many issues with my DX until recently the camera app doesn't work anymore, reboots, freezes, and general poor performance. I know a factory reset would most likely fix these issues but theres no point now.
I chose the S3 because a want to give Samsung a shot plus its the best phone I can get now and keep my unlimted data. Can't wait to get my new phone tomorrow, but I will miss my X it was a work horse to say the least and was the phone that made me fall in love with the world of Android. :-)

Can anyone post a picture of the DX side-by-side with the SGS3?

Yep I had a DX too until friday, it was a very reliable and tough smart phone. But for me there is no looking back because the Sgs3 is a complete beast. Although, I will miss the moto build quality a bit and button layout too. But all in all I'm very glad to make the switch, it was time.

Using my DX until tomorrow when the S3 arrives. It was a great phone for me for my whole 2yr contract. It has gotten slow and is very annoying when it won't start the camera for 15 secs, but I really liked it. Its been through a lot and still looks brand new, not a scratch. Just slow and has some faint white screen blotching.

I was a long time Blackberry user but it was obvious even from the early days of Android that in regards to hardware, OS and applications that RIM's days were numbered so I pre-ordered the Droid X.

The DX has been a great phone for the last two years, rooted and ROMed as soon as those options were available, so I can't really speak for the stock experience. I've dropped my DX a ridiculous number of times but it took the abuse like a champ. Without a doubt the X was a well built, high performance phone.

But all good things must end and the days of the X have passed. I'm very pleased with my S3 and have no regrets about leaving behind my X or Motorola.

Another one here..my dx has been through alot..my s3 shows up tomm!!!

Bought the DX when it came out for my first Android phone. It's been a great phone and I have had lots of fun trying out other ROMs. It's now my three year old son's toy for movies from our home server, netflix, games, even have Google voice on there in case I need another phone. Just a Wifi device now.

I too stood in line on release day for the DX. It was my first smartphone, and I'm so glad I made the jump! It's been a great phone for me, and while many other great phones were released after it, I was always happy with my DX purchase.

Now I have the GS3 to look forward to, and I don't think it will disappoint!

Droid x contract over in May....holding out for droidx maxx HD....

I assume that you currently have unlimited data plan since you have a DX. You are willing to give up unlimited data, just for another Motorola? I ask, since I too was contemplateing the RAZR MAXX HD...but I immediately jumped on the GS3 preorder so that I wouldn't lose my unlimited data plan.

I am also moving from a DX - purchased it at launch. It is amazing how quickly top notch technology is outdated! It's been a great phone, but I'm excited about the SIII.

"So anyway what are you folks doing to prepare to switch over?"
I'll Backup my 32gb SD card first" I'll start from scratch on the new SIII

"What are you going to do with your old DX?"
My husband and I both have a DX. We'll probably keep one and sell the other.

"What will you miss most about your DX?"
I will miss the solid feel of the phone. The SIII is beautiful, but I'm afraid it will be much more fragile than the DX.

"Anyone considering not opening the GSIII and doing an eBay trade for the RAZR MAXX HD when its released?"
No way - I plan to enjoy the SIII
