Moto G - 4.4.2 Kit Kat Upgrade starting today

Does that actually work though?

It has for several other phones. Sometimes manufacturers say that "region X will get the OTA update on date Y", so by moving up your date and time, theoretically you could hit that magic point to get the update early. They do this in order to prevent everyone downloading the update at the same time and causing problems.

I tried it once, but only changed the date. I'll give it another try.

Acording to cnet, UK Moto G owners will not get the Kit Kat update until January...
"Motorola has announced the update for Moto G phones bought in the US; I've contacted Motorola to find out if the update is coming to the UK. Update: British phone fans will enjoy KitKat on the Moto G in January."

I think it's interesting that my battery meter seems to sit on half-way for a long time. How accurate is everyone's battery meter?

Absolutely! Phones know how not to hurt themselves in terms of using different chargers.

Edit: Hmm, Tapatalk seems to have quoted the incorrect person, sorry!

Does the G need to have a sim installed to receive the update or will it do it just with WiFi? I bought one for my son for Christmas and wanted it updated before I give it to him.

Thanks!

I've tried checking for the update with and without the Sim and no luck either way. I think the rollout is still very limited right now...

Total newbe with a smart phone. At what point will they ship with kit kat already updated? Or will they?

Hmmm. Now that the update is out I would say any phone PRODUCED from here on out will have it. But what is currently in stock will need updated. My thoughts....

I just received my G and have not installed a Sim yet. I have been asked to update to KitKat over WiFi. Just chose not to do it yet.

I never got any notification for update but read how to manually check for the update here: Moto G Android 4.4.2 Kit Kat rollout in full swing - Android Community

It worked and now downloaded kitkat :)
Hi t1234,

Any chance you, or anyone else who has updated their Moto G to KitKat, tell us if it feels different in use compared to Jellybean ?...Does it feel any faster or is it just a psychological placebo effect because you know it's 4.4.2 ?
I'm hoping someone out there will do a side by side video with two Moto Gs, one running Jellybean and one KitKat, and we can find out if upgrading the OS really does make a difference in phone use.

Sorry I am a COMPLETE NEWBIE to Android, visiting from Apple iOS. With the latter, I never updated until at least one month later to let apple debug, etc....maybe others can be more helpful. Good luck! :)

I have a moto g and it keeps tellin me to update ...but I'm hesitant ,....the screen keeps flickering off and on ... Should I upgrade this kit kat on my moto g ??

I think you should but charge the battery all the way and keep it plugged in, then factory reset before you install the update and after the update don't sign in to anything and reset a again and keep the phone on the charger for about a hour while you restore everything and you should be good!! But the screen flicker I have no idea about that if it gets to bad request a replacement!
