Moto X Style: is it worth it to upgrade from the Moto X 2014 (aka 2nd gen)?

Re: Is Moto Style worth the upgrade from Moto X 2014

Since my beloved 2014 X with the bamboo back met an extremely ugly demise last night....my answer is now a resounding yes. I love the Moto X concept and I love that the 2015 version will be universal for all carrier bands (finally). So I'll be buying on Day One.

Specifics or it didn't happen :)

Let's just say that I should enroll in an anger management course as my phone became an unwitting victim of a far too hard screen-down slam to the desk surface. I'm very sad over it, too. I really, truly loved that phone. 5.1.1 really made it as snappy as it was the day it was released. And, damn, it was a very attractive looking phone.

We've all been there. RIP Moto X.

I'm gonna stick with my natural leather backed Moto X (2nd Gen). Not keen on the new display size and battery capacity however, the Play is tempting me but will wait it out to see what the new Nexus' have in store.

I ordered a 2014 Moto X when the specs for the 2015 started leaking, figuring I would not be able to afford one. I had that 2014 for a week when the price was announced, so I returned it. I loved it, it was a solid performer and looked great in Navy and black with orange accents, but the 15 to me just seems superior in every way. It'll be the first time I get a top-of-the-line device as soon as it's launched. Yay!

Did you get the navy leather or plastic back on the 2014?

Navy plastic, felt very good in-hand. I hope the 15 doesn't feel "squishy".

My HTC Rezound had a similar pattern and material on its back plate and I thought it felt great and had plenty of grip. Not squishy at all. I'm expecting to like the silicone backs just as I much on the Moto X 2015.

After seeing pictures of the 2015 backs I am leaning heavily towards a silicone back for the grip and feel. This phone is big, so I see myself going case-less a lot. Therefore I'm going for maximum grip!
