Hi Everyone,

I really need your help! I'm from the UK and I just can't decide which tablet to go for.

I'm really urged towards the Motorola Xoom. Currently ?579.99 here.
Basically I want a 3G Device, but is it better to wait for other models to release with 3G, or go for the xoom?

It's either the:
Motorola Xoom(Releasing with 3G version)
Asus Eee Pad Transformer
Galaxy Tab 10.1
Acer Iconia A501 (Releasing with 3G version)

Kinda hard to decide for someone else.

how badly do you want one *right now*?

The Xoom is a good product that is made well, but it will only get better by waiting. Both for a bugfix update and for the 16GB model to release (if you don't fancy 32GB at a higher price.)

Logic says hold off until all these are released, prices are only going to go lower and then you can decide which works best for you after trying them all out.

That said, personally if I were looking at a long business trip or some such in the next week or two, I wouldn't feel too bad jumping on the Xoom and just enjoying it.

Hi Suntan

Thanks for your reply.
I really wanted one right now to be honest.
At least by mid/end of April if possible.

The really hard decision is which one to go for.
But thanks for letting me know your preferable choice :)

I don't mind the 32GB one as it's good for storage,
it's just I don't know when others will come out with 3G as that's a really
important feature for me.

Cheers,
Jake

Its hard to say since I have not used any but the Xoom but I can say that I am really happy with the Xoom. I think it offers the most options and features of any tablet (including the iPad2) but not the Asus EEE Slate (which is a tablet but in a whole other ballpark). As Suntan said, it is always better to wait because the upgraded, tweaked, or Xoom2 will be better in every way. It's just a matter of can you wait for it? If you can then definitely wait, if you cannot then get the Xoom asap.

I'm buying a Xoom today and will pick up the Transformer whenever it comes out, then decide which to keep.

Dont hold your breath for 16gb xooms.

Asus transformer has a working sd slot!!!! Get on it Motorola! !!

It should be very soon...I have a friend who works at Motorola Mobility. It was an issue with Honeycomb...it took them a bit to figure out how to incorporate the SD card with the OS so everything runs smoothly even if you run an app from SD

The Asus would NOT have a working SD card if released today with honeycomb since its an OS issue

With regards to Samsung..they can go to HE LL for all I care...they have a strong history of forgetting to update older devices in lieu of supporting their newer devices...You can count on it that once the newer samsung tabs come out during christmas, they will have already forgotten the ones released during summer. Only resort is XDA for custom ROM's at that point for further upgrades

Actualy asus already released in uk with sd support, however they did a dirty hack to get it working. So they bypassed waiting on os support to get it first. For me the sd slot isnt too big of a deal actually, i havent used all 32 gb yet, the big advantages for asus are the screen, price, and that dock.

The asus screen is nicer, not sure about the acer tab, but the xooms screen is what broke the deal for me. It was too dim to use in my classes, unless they can update it later and make it brighter, I'll opt in for the asus

I didn't think the asus eepad was 3g enabled, just wifi.
I have been waiting for the xoom for a while here in the UK, I have been very tempted by the asus but the lack of USB on the tablet make it a deal breaker. To my mind there is no perfect tablet yet but that just means I have another tech purchase to look forward to.

I just posted a comparison chart on this here:

Comparison Chart: Xoom, Transformer, Galaxy, TouchPad

Any plans to add on that chart...such as the Acer ?
Yes, I just added the Acer.

At $449, the Acer matches and even goes beyond the $599 Xoom in every spec but one. Add a $24 16GB microSD and the Acer is on top in every spec.

I do not know how Motorola can do anything but reduce the Xoom price to match the Acer Iconia A500. How else can the Xoom survive being side-by-side with the Acer at Best Buy?

Hey everyone, Thanks for all your replies.
For now, the xoom and iconia really has my attention.
Because im mobile for work, 3G is vital at the moment.
The xoom at the moment has its edge as cases and accessories are
available to buy/preorder.
I really wished that Asus released the 3g version at the same day release for wifi.
Both xoom/iconis are out 18/20th April in the UK so a few more days to wait :)

I have an iPad, but don't like iOS. I went to Best Buy to get the Xoom, but the quality of the display stopped me. After getting used to the iPad's IPS display, the Xoom's is a big disappointment. Wait for the Asus- it uses an IPS display. Samsung also has a reputation for excellent displays. The Xoom is overpriced for the poor display quality.

There is (IMO) no perfect product and probably never will be. The most obvious strength of the Apple product is its display, but every time I think I will jump back on the Apple bandwagon I realize how much I've come to really like the Android environment.

I wouldn't say the Xoom display quality is poor, though I would say it could be better. Display quality is pretty subjective, though.
