My Rant on the iPhone 5s

They try to make everything sound like space technology... Look at the iPhone 5C.... It's plastic yet they try and act like it's this new thing lol.

The 5c is awful. Ugh the colors make me want to vomit, especially the yellow one. The 5c is a joke, you only save a hundred bucks either way. it's still $550 off contract lol

That's the whole point. Other flagships made smaller upgrades.

S3-S4 was just as big as the 5-5S leap. I dont care what you think. This was a massive upgrade for phones PERIOD.

HA! Only for the iPhone, Android phones have already been there (except for 64 bit). Either way, 64 bit is coming to us. Basically, Apple just took a tiny step forward when they need to go a long way. I mean ios 7? come on, ridiculous. It stole so many things from Android and Windows Phone. Fail Apple, fail.

You think a bigger screen means innovation? Sorry but *head desk*
No Apple is not falling behind.

You need to read my posts before ranting Chetan. I never said a bigger screen was innovation, I said it needs a bigger screen. And yes, they are. They keep getting smoked by Samsung, HTC, and more recently Motorola. They can do whatever they like, but the truth is they will never be on top with a screen that small. I could have related that to something that would better prove my point, but I'm trying to keep this professional.

I'll give you that they have excellent customer satisfaction, but nothing else. Android, if used properly, can receive timely updates. All you need is a rooted device and you're good to go. The nexus line automatically gets updates, so there's another option. I personally think the nexus line of phones along with the Moto x is a smoother experience, but that's my opinion.

The Nexus is the only Android to get timely updates without rooting. Why should you have to root to get them, as that leaves out 98% of Android owners?

Actually the 5s is a bigger upgrade over the 5 than the 5 was over the 4. The only really thing they added with the 5 was design(screen). Processor bump and such was not a big deal.
I thought the biggest upgrade the 5 got over the 4S was 4G. Apple has done a great job of making their cameras top notch for smartphones lately and I don't see any reason to think the 5S will be any different.

I think the difference between the 5 and 5S is bigger than many people have been giving credit for, but without the bigger screen it's not an "absolutely must have" phone. They pretty much improved everything except the one thing "everyone" wanted.

Because this is Android. It has a a flaw with the carriers, I'll admit it. But, I'm saying you have the option to update if you wish by rooting. All of my friends have, it's what we do (custom roms, kernels, everything). This is a flaw, there is not one thing in existence without a flaw.

It's a MAJOR flaw. Normal users aren't going to root their phones to start with, so they will probably never get an update. It is a flaw, but it should be fixable, as there is no excuse for customers not getting updates which are designed for their phones just because they are not rooted. Android fail.

Why do you think that they are #1 in customer satisfaction polls year after year?

Look, the iPhone 5s is actually a great device and it looks awesome. I'm genuinely impressed with what they've done here (minus the pathetic screen size). But the answer to your last question is so easy I can't believe you're asking it.

They remain #1 in customer satisfaction because even if they released a mound of dog sh** and put the Apple logo on it, they'd still be praised by the majority of their customers, The Verge, and many other tech sites. iPhone fans (kind of like Nexus fans) always say they'll buy the next version before they even know what it will contain. Their blind loyalty is astonishing to me. I would be blown away to hear an objective pro and con list of the iPhone from someone who's owned the 4, 4s, 5, and then the 5s. They just can't do it. It's the best at everything no matter what. I bet there's thousands of iPhone fans that will tell you that their NFC works better than Android's.

When my friend was asking around to get advice on what to get for a new smartphone, his iPhone fan manager told him to get an iPhone because: "It can do everything Android can, but better." Then he asked me, and I gave him a list of cons about Android FIRST, and then told him why it's still worth it to get the S3 (this was in 2012). He loves his S3 and said he didn't want the iPhone because everyone he talked to said it was the best phone available, but could NEVER tell him specifically why.

People will disagree with me (because they're fans of iPhone and therefore prove my above point) and that's okay. This is my experience that i've seen many times first hand. I love Android, but I am 80% sure I would have gotten the iPhone 5s if it had a 4.5" screen or bigger. Until then, I will stick to Android and hope that one day Apple will set their pride aside and admit that Android has something with these larger screens. At least release a big screen option and a microscopic screen option for those who still want it. Instead they release a colorful piece of shiz with the same tiny screen.

Pappy, you also have to UNDERSTAND Android. It has been modified by many manufacturers, so every android phone is different. Different hardware requires different kernels and all sorts of other things. This gives us a wider range to choose from though, it's not the same plain boring experience on IOS. Android comes in many flavors, and it requires modification to run on every phone. Most people don't care, their phone works fine for them. They will eventually recieve the new update though, unless the phone is really old. If you properly understand android, you should see this. You can't pull an Apple with Android.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Nice post!

In the context of updates it's more accurate to think of TouchWiz as it's own OS, and Sense as it's own, etc. The problem still exists in each of those, as not all HTC devices from the last 3 years are running Sense 5.x and Android 4.2.2, but they should be. Same thing with Samsung, etc. The OEM's and carriers should be working on an update operating procedure that doesn't punish people for being unlucky enough to have bought the One S instead of the One V or the Sprint S3 instead of the AT&T S3, etc. Google is releasing the entire stock Android code to everyone, it's just a matter of whether or not the customers (OEM's) decide to use it for their customers.

Sure, the iPhone 5 clocked at 1.3 is more powerful than the Galaxy s4 clocked at 1.9. Hahahaha okay whatever makes you happy. And yeah, they are. Motorola released this technology first, although they may not have had it before Apple. Motorola had it first released. Now if Apple had released the phone sooner it could have been different, but they're catching up at the moment.

Yes, the iPhone's processor is faster.

Also, how can a phone be playing catch up with another phone released less than a month prior? You don't seem to understand how technology works.

Yes, but then you run into the carrier issue. Usually, updates are pushed out pretty quickly (in perspective of what has to be done) to unlocked phones. Carrier editions however take months and sometimes a year. That's the carriers fault, they take their sweet time. I will admit that's a HUGE problem, but it's not one that can't be fixed if you know what you're doing. And, the problem is completely solved by the nexus line of phones and all factory Android unlocked phones for that matter

No. Their big thing was that its plastic, so it should look like plastic. Not the faux metal finishes or leather Samsung is using.

Lol. My point, exactly. But wouldn't those people be pleasantly surprised , if at least once a year, that they could get an update on their phone that would make it a better experience? But the only way that they can do that is either buy a Nexus phone, or void their warranty by rooting. This is one of Android's major drawbacks. And yes, I UNDERSTAND Androids, as I started with the OG Droid, and have had many other ones since.

Actually, it isn't. If you ran tests side by side with the newer processors the new Qualcomm and Samsung Exynos processors would win. And I'm quite offended that you say I don't know how technology works. I can see why you've received some infraction points in the past. Obviously, if some people agree with and like my posts, I know what I'm talking about most of the time.

Therein lies the problem, and it needs to be addressed.

But it isn't just plastic, It's cheap plastic! At least on a Samsung phone they make it look nice without all the disgusting colors.
