Need to change password?

[AC Question]

I have a Samsung J1 phone. I was looking at the different password types, when I accidentally clicked the wrong thing. Now I somehow have a simple swipe lock screen, but when I try to change the password in Settings, it asks me for a PIN, which isn't what my old PIN password used to be. I've tried every number combo I can think of but I cant change the password type? Also, "clear credentials" is grayed out, I dont have an sd card so it obviously wont let me clear it, I dont want to do a factory reset (I need the mystery PIN anyway). out of ideas. all help is appreciated
