New EVO Battery Life Sticky: Please Contribute

I noticed recently that my battery was draining a lot faster than before. After performing a hard reset and reloading my apps, I found out that if I'm logged into Qik, my battery will drain about 5%/hr while idle. If I sign out (menu/settings/sign out) rather than simply exiting the application, my battery life returned to normal (roughly 1%/hr drain while idle).

hope this helps anyone.

Hmm..so i've been noticing bigger than usually battery loss and i decided to try something. I restarted my phone and charged it to 100 percent and unpluged it.

I got one text message during that time that i did not respond to. My phone has been unplugged for 40 minutes and i lost 13% of my battery. Again, i unplugged it right when it turned green, so there was no trickle charge loss.

I'm thinking Tango may indeed be causing some battery issues as well. I'm going to uninstall and gauge again.

I've tried to read through this thred, and actually its starting to make me ill. I've have my 4G Evo for 2months. Im sick of being tethered to a charger. I went to th e Redskins game using my Gps and after I got there my battery was half dead and was barely able to take take pics of my wife and me and at the game and this is after my second full charge of the day. I know some of you are "Blackberry Haters" and Converters ...Me included, but c'mon you have a entire thred dedicated to turning **** off to make your phone work that you pay an extra $10.00 a month to turn **** off that your phone might be able to make it from 6a.m. to 2.pm then another charge to make it to 3-9 p.m. If you of do travel, you better have a car charger or you're sunk. I'm fed up, I love the phone, but geez some of you are drinking too much of th e kOOL-AId. tell them you sick of it, and it will change

If you use your phone as a GPS unit you definitely need to use a car charger. I bought one on Amazon for 1 cent plus $2.50 shipping so I can use the phone as much as needed in the car.

my battery lasts maybe six hours and then I have a third left so I charged it for a couple of hours at work. I would say it lasts about 7 hours with average use meaning 20 texts 4 phone calls of 5 minutes suffering the net for maybe half hour and then needs recharged as the battery picture shows empty.

I don't what setup some of you have, but I consistently get 26 hours with light/mod use over the last few weeks. I used to get 16-18 hours with light mod use and then I cleaned up some old apps that I didn't use anymore. I don't know if this has anything to do with anything but I monitor things pretty closely and didn't see anything out of whack so I don't if the clean up had anything to do with it.

That being said, I couldn't be happier with my evo battery life. I am certainly not tethered to a charger. Currently I am at 45% and 23 hours unplugged. I find the biggest drainer of my batter is online poker actually. As I am connected to the internet consistently it drains it quicker. I also heard that widgets that require the internet to update drain the battery quicker as well (news, youtube widget, etc) but I don't use these widgets so I can't confirm or deny this.

My battery sucks. I fully charged it. Woke up today. Unplugged. Moderate WiFi, internet, 10-20 texts, no gps, mobile off, no sync, no background data, and I'm at 75%. I had my evo for 2.5 weeks. This sucks. Battery drains crazy. It lasts 13 hours with light use. I go to school turning all the stuff off with airplane mode.7 hours later 85-90% come home, light internet use, 75-80%, then moderate use 50-70% less than 1-2 hours. I always use WiFi in my house with everything off. But WiFi. Is it WiFi that is draining my evo? This sucks. It does great battery life if I don't touch it, but when I do, battery drains like no tomorrow. I would wake up fully charged and if I moderate use then ill recharge at 4-5pm. This sucks.

I was getting great battery life, then it went to hell and I have been trying to figure it out for over a month... I made the mistake of using a large photo as a wallpaper that I assumed would be resized when added.
I went from 13-15 hours of use to 6-8 from that background and I switched it back to live wallpaper and it's back to normal.
Big wallpaper = **** battery

The one setting that makes the biggest difference for me is turning off "always on mobile data". When I reset on my phone I couldn't figure out why I was using so much more battery than before I did the reset even though I had everything set the same... then I realized that I forgot to turn off "always on mobile data".

I have the following items synced; gmail, exchange, facebook, and weather. I don't talk on the phone much but I send/receive about 100 texts a day. I also usually leave bluetooth and GPS off unless I need it but always leave wifi on as it's faster and uses less power than 3G. With that I usually have about half my battery left at the end of the day. And last summer when I went camping I shut of my syncs and got 3 days out of my battery. I use the "Android Power widget" to quickly turn on and off these things.

MSN TALK was my virus, or battery kill...

Yup it was tango. Forced stopped the application...

I added all of these to the Getting Started with Android - Tips and Tricks, Battery Life Tips and Tricks section.

Thanks!

I installed Juice Defender and Set cpu and seems to be getting a bit more battery life.
Install System Panel monitor your device, some apps need their sync frequencies changed...
Turn 4g off.
Turn wifi on (if you have an access point available).
Set wifi sleep mode to never.
Turn gtalk auto-signin off.
Turn data roaming off.
Turn always-on mobile data off.
Set network mode to CDMA.
Turn off stock sync.
Turn off news sync.
Don't use facebook/friendstream/etc widgets.
...And i owe it all to my wireless router
I added all of these to the Getting Started with Android - Tips and Tricks too.

Great ideas!

I'm pretty happy with my overall battery life. I am getting around 13-15 hours. But what I'm still not happy with is when I unplug my phone and in less than 2 minutes, it is down to 94%.

It seems to settle around 94 and from then on decreases more linearly. No matter what I do though I lose that first 5-6% immediately! I've tried conditioning the battery by charging it full, turning off the phone, letting it charge full again, turning on the phone, then letting it charge to full again. But when I unplug my phone I lose 5% in the first couple minutes.

Any tips on how I stop it from doing this or is this just the way it is? It's not a big deal in the big picture as I said, I seem to be getting good battery life as a whole. It's just discouraging to see that initial 5% just fly away.

thanks!

I tried just about all the task killers and none worked. I work in an office where 1 person bought the evo and it caught on to the point where almost everyone has one now. we all have gone through task killers. I then bumped into the "juice defender free" app. It worked instantly on my evo so I tried it on my wifes evo, same results. I passed it on to all of my coworkers and 1 by 1 they all came back with positive results. WE ALL now get a full day (from 6:30a to 9pm) worth of battery life. Just thought I would let everyone know. good day
