New EVO Battery Life Sticky: Please Contribute

I just broke all sorts of records for myself.. I just got 40 hours and 29 minutes of light to moderate usage on a Chinese battery.. The thing just went dead a few minutes ago.. I consider light to moderate usage being normal texting probably around 30 or so a day, on phone talking for 1-2 hours, and facebooking on the OLD 1.2 app.. My thing about all this is conditioning the batteries, I charge them fully with the Chinese charger, then run them fully dead leaving the phone on all the time. I read somewhere one time that even though this are Lithion batteries they still need to be discharged fully at times to allow for full charges. My BB which I used to get around 48 hours out of after I stopped conditioning the battery I was lucky to get 16 hours on...

Is there any way that we can get true facts here? I know many people love their phones but this is just rediculous. I never get even close to 40, 30, 20, 10 more like 6 hours of usage per charge at a moderate use. If folk keep exaggerating numbers just to make a phone that has CRAPPY battery life look good then the problem will never ber fixed. Ive done all I could to this phone and CANNOT get over 5 1/2 hours before it goes dead.

MINE WAS horrible i would not get a half hour before it started draiining and dissappearing battery so what i did by listening to some moderate threaders here was wipe out the phone completely. complete wipe helped it i get a lot more battery time now. I am still waiting on a replacement phone but for now it works better than before.

If you put it in the drawer, leave it on airplane mode so not to be searching for towers.

I did not think about this i will try that. But if i put it on airplane mode my texts and messages will arrive after i take it off that mode right? If so i dont want to do that lolz

Impossible...Ive tried each of these I have been with this phone for the first hour of drop date. The battery sucks period! I just cannot believe you are getting this much battery time. About 45 minutes after I unplugg and use 30 minutes worth of FB the battery is already drained to 80%

Well It may very well be the phone. I even got a replacement battery from Sprint and both suck to the max.

Another prime example is right now.. 15 minutes ago by battery was at 15%..I have only sent 1 text message and a call for 3 minutes and my battery stands at 6%. This is way unacceptable..It reminds me of my crappy PRE!

Don't know why people get on here and report fantastic battery times. Maybe they just want to be "loved", but I know a couple dozen EVO owners and NONE get the kind of battery life some report, here. Maybe they got a new, super secret battery the military is testing, but not released to the public, to keep the manufacturers making money. The ridiculous price Sprint and others get for the batteries, may be the answer. I got two batteries and a charger for less than 12 bucks, and I get 8-12 hours from all 3...no difference. Maybe the life of the cheapies will be shorter, that remains to be seen.

So, here is how I resolved this problem on my Evo. I leave the phone charging overnight (radio always on as I need to be available 24/7). In the morning I remove the charger and after 10-15 minutes connect the charger again and let it get back to green while I get ready for work. When I disconnect the charger my battery reports 100% and stays like that for over an hour most days. My battery life is quite good with normal use (moderate texting, few calls, hourly weather/mail updates, lots database and web searches) since I've been doing this. And yes, I do this daily when I work.

I basically have been doing the same as AndroidOne does in leaving my EVO on charge all night and then I get up and use it for a half an hour to an hour and then plug it in to the charger until the light turns green. Then my battery easily lasts all day long and more. Since I am retired I have a little more time in the morning to run mine for a while before charging. Doing this works super for me. I just kind of stumbled into doing this and found that it does a super job of getting the battery ready for a whole day of use and more. Try it and I know you will agree with AndroidOne and me...

I own a new HTC evo and battery has never lasted longer than maybe 3-4 hours before it is totally dead

WiFi is not turned on and the display screen turns off after 2 minutes
I also have the screen display on auto

Any idea why this is and what I can do to increase battery life past 3 hours?

One last item..

I plug it into my laptop to charge it but it doesnt charge - why?

Turn 4g off.
Turn wifi on (if you have an access point available).
Set wifi sleep mode to never.
Turn gtalk auto-signin off.
Turn data roaming off.
Turn always-on mobile data off.
Set network mode to CDMA.
Turn off stock sync.
Turn off news sync.
Don't use facebook/friendstream/etc widgets.

Thought I'd share my experience...

Pre-Froyo:
Same battery life with 4G on or off: ~8-10 hours with moderate to heavy use

Post-Froyo:
4G on: consistently ~6 hrs with moderate use (worse that pre-Froyo)
4G off: I'm at 90% after 5hr 45min with light to moderate use for today and was great yesterday also (way better than pre-Froyo)

I realize everybody's experience is different, especially with the infinite variables, but according to my numbers, it seems Froyo is not optimized for the 4G radio. But I love the EVO no matter what!

I bought that Seidio 1750mah battery because I did not want that huge monstrous 3500mah doubling the size of my EVO.

Today, starting from a 100% charge, not using 4G or WiFi, just regular 3G - in only 2 hours time I am down to 50% charge left. All I did was use the eBay app to check some items I am selling (my HD2 is one of them), check the web a bit, and check out this forum using TapaTalk. And it drained this fast?????

It's been reported numerous times by numerous people/blogs/forums/etc. that the aftermarket batteries don't actually hold as much charge as they claim. Conservative estimates say they're about 15% less than what they advertise, which would make the 1750mah battery actually a 1488mah battery (which is slightly less than the stock 1500mah battery). Also, you probably won't get the full use of the battery until a few days of charging...but I still doubt it'll be any better than the stock battery.

Same boat as a lot of folks.....sure, the EVO does a ton of things better than practically any device on the market but carrying around extra batteries for swap outs every 4-6 hours is becoming rather comical. Surely, Google has seen these types of threads and is working on some type of fix for this battery hog. Right? I was on vacation this past week and would pull it off of the charger to catch up on emails from throughout the day and it would be at 50% in an hour or so....I have followed all advice on here and nothing works....love the EVO but somethings gotta change.
