Are you burning that 6-8% per hour while idling, or while using the phone? If it's while idling, that still seems high... I use 1-2% per hour while idle. I have Gtalk auto sign-in turned off, and I did on 2.1 as well. While I don't have hard measurements, it seemed to be a source of battery drain even in 2.1 for me.

I have tried most of the things mentioned in this thread and have not found a fix yet. It is very strange that some days I get about 12 hours or so with fairly heavy use and other days, like today, it was dead after 5 hours of light use. I did a hard reset and wiped the phone a few days ago. Since then I have only installed a few apps while I try to sort this out.
Best Buy mobile suggested a task killer but the posts on this forum are not exactly a testament to that fixing the battery problem. Not sure what else to try here but I have to be able to consistently get more than 5 hours per charge and I don't want to carry extra batteries. Only about 5 days left in my 30 day trial.
Update: I called HTC and they suggested Advanced Task Killer and turning off both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi! What a load of BS! At least they didn't say to leave it in airplane mode all the time.

Just got 21 hours with moderate use.
1. Disabled gtalk
2. Made sure cdma auto
3. Did hard reset first
4. Set browser to on demand
5. Everything else is on normal

I had tried everything with no luck. Thing only thing that worked is a Factory Reset. I'm going on 24 hours with little batter drain so far. Before the reset, it was dead within a couple of hours. Yes it does suck to have to set up account, settings and download apps again, but its worth it. Battery is back to normal again.
I took mine off the charger this morning at about 8:20am, it is now 12:50 and it has been back on the charger for about 30 min due to it was already at a quarter battery and I dont get home for antoher 5 to 6 hours!! That sucks!!
Verdes.... go to Menu>Settings>Applications>Running Services and tell me what apps are running.
Make sure you do all the battery saving tips that are on here. I had everything done to max battery life and when I loaded .6 I was getting lousy battery life and come to find out it was the 4G setting that was killing my battery. I had it checked off and the upgrade rechecked it and it was constantly looking for 4G. Just something as stupid as that can kill your battery and never see it in running apps. I would go thru everything with a fine tooth comb and recheck everything if you were getting better battery life on 2.1.

As soon as I got my EVO, I turned on 4G, GPS, Wi-Fi, and all mobile syncing options. In no time, I had my Exchange and Gmail accounts pushing contacts, calendars and email to the beautiful new device. Due to the fact that I have excellent 4G coverage in my area, I would sometimes turn off Wi-Fi, and bask in the glory that is 4G! Coming from the Pre, I was hoping for better battery life, even though the EVO does so much more. But, after reading that more than a few people were experiencing battery issues with their EVO's, I decided to look into the matter myself.
For several days, I used my EVO somewhat heavily, without any real battery-saving techniques in place. On average, I would get between 6 to 8 hours of moderate use before I got the 15% battery warning. To me, that was not too bad, but I wanted to see just how much extra life I could squeeze out of the battery, while still using all of the EVO's amazing features. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that I could do just that. Using a simple approach to data usage, changing a few settings, and installing an app or two, I was able to get over 60 hours of light use from one charge!That's right, I unplugged my EVO at 8:21AM on Monday morning (6/14) and did not received the 15% battery warning until around 10PM Wednesday night (6/16). All the while, I was signed into AIM and Skype (with fring), using live wallpaper and widgets, using Gmail and Exchange push, and sending and receiving calls, IM's and texts. Needless to say, I was both shocked and elated.
The key to this astonishing turn-around lies in the answer to a simple question. "Where am I?" Or, more specifically, "Is there Wi-Fi where I am?" When it comes to connectivity, I now think of my EVO as having two distinct "modes". One mode is used when a Wi-Fi network is available, the other is used the rest of the time. Whenever I am at a location that has an available Wi-Fi network (which is most of the time), I force all data to use the Wi-Fi network exclusively. I do this by disabling mobile networking using HTC's Mobile Network widget, or the going to Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile network. I also turn off 4G and GPS, since they are not typically needed when I am connected via Wi-Fi. Overall, the EVO appears to use the least amount of power when data is sent/received exclusively over a Wi-Fi network. When a Wi-Fi network is not available, I turn off Wi-Fi, and turn on mobile networking. I also only turn on GPS and 4G as needed (Google Navigation, Sprint TV, You Tube HQ, etc.).
Below, is a detailed list of the settings that allowed my EVO to achieve the greatest increase in battery life while connected to a Wi-Fi network. These setting incorporate many of the battery-saving tips that you may have seen in other threads. Since battery life depends on a variety of factors, your results may very. If you spend a large amount of time at a location that has an available Wi-Fi network (work, home, etc.), you should see a notable increase in battery life using this approach. Let me know if any of these setting, or the general concept, was helpful to you.

I took my phone off the charger at about 10am today and it is now almost 6. Phone says about 8 hours off the charger, and I have only lost 1/4 of battery life. And that is also with texting, RSS feed reading and general web browsing. Im loving it so far
I'm just destined not to get much life out of my battery. I've optimized all settings, just use the browser and text too much I imagine. I use it more like a laptop than a phone.
Wifi is off in this picture because I had just gotten back to the house.
Since the Froyo update my battery is pretty bad. I have never had problems with the battery in 2.1 . When i look at my battery usage my android system is usinging 96% of the battery. How do you guys have the android system percent so low? I do all the tips in this thread.
I think we need a thread just for diagnosing those 2.2 phones with high Android System battery use percentages. The hard reset hadn't helped mine so far (did it today).
Welp people ain't gonna like this, but I got 29 hours today and yesterday on the battery. The first 7 hours I didn't touch the phone, and it was at 99% usuage. I spent about 2 or 3 hours last night texting and answering emails, and then today just answering texts. I now have one of the Chinese batteris in and I am at 72% with moderate use for 5 1/2 hours, I was on the phone talking for just over an hour (these phones get pretty warm when you are yacking on it for an hour!) and have been playing with wall papers for about an hour.. I have found out 2 things since Froyo, I did a full hard reset because I was having a problem with an app before the reset battery life was at about 8 hours on the original battery and then I was only getting about 8 or 9 on the Chinese batteries Since the hard reset I upped the chinese batteries to about 19 hours and the original was just 29 hours. The other thing I found was the charger, charging the batteries through the phone overnight left me with 90 to 95% within an hour of pulling the charger off. Charging with the Chinese charger I am dropping no more then 1% after an hour of no use. The phone built in charger like everyone has said is not fully charging the battery but the chinese charger is giving them a full charge as far as I am concerned the best $10 I ever spent even in the batteries don't last me more then a couple of months..
ok, my battery is driving me nuts. My evo is my second android phone and I have never really had much of a problem with battery life. When my evo was 2.1 I could easily go 16 hours without a charge. Since the 2.2 update I have had extremely poor battery life. I also never seem to have a good signal. I have done most or all the battery saving tips on here. Today I took the phone off the charger at 0730. It is 4 hours later and I have used the phone very little and my battery is at 46%. WTF is going on? I have tried almost everything.

I am stock, not rooted. I have not done a hard reset, wanted that as last resort. I have a task killer but don't really run it, I kill it if I kill other selected apps, but rarely use it.
I hope I have found the problem. I uninstalled the last two apps I installed (seems to be when the battery problem started) the apps were talking tom cat and spare parts.

its deff not spare parts doing it.
I have spare parts and getting constistant 24hr+ batt times now.
Spareparts has some compatibility mode settings too that might help.
If you dont need it. . .great, but that one I can confirm is not the issue.

OK not sure that it did help. I did not think it was spare parts but I am uninstalling the latest apps. My battery just dropped 20% in 20 minutes checking one email. unplugged phone at 0730 and now at 1:30 my battery is at 25%. May have to do a hard reset.
Honestly... it was like night and day after I did a hard reset. My phone has been unplugged for 4 hours so far. Only down 12% after reading RSS feeds, facebooking, a couple e-mails, and 2 texts.
Make sure to leave off the task killers. They don't even work properly with 2.2
Check the app store before reinstalling apps to make sure people aren't having problems with that app and 2.2
Also, be sure to adjust all setting after a hard reset as most saved preferences revert to default (GTalk, Sync Setting ...)

Buggy I have to agree with DJ.. Before the Hard reset on my phone, I was getting at most 16 hours of moderate use.. Now I am getting well over 24 hours, right now I have a chinese battery in for the past 23 hours and 20 minutes, I have 53 % remaining, I've been texting all day and emailing.. The only other thing I did to the phone was install the paid version of Chronos, its a profile editor. I have about 6 or 7 profiles now.. It turns on and off all of the features at certain times. I have bluetooth on only when I am in the car, during the day at work nothing is on, no wifi, bluetooth etc. on the drive home bluetooth comes back on, when I am at home Wifi is on, before bed everything from ringers to bluetooth etc turns off. If I am at 23 hours and have half the battery left, I will get at least another 6 to 8 hours on this charge..
Sync everything up and try the reset, you have nothing to lose but about an hour of your time..

i am very very dissapointed in the 2.2 battery life. took my phone off of the charger at 11:00am and it didnt even make it to 9:00pm... i have wi-fi on, facebook, foursquare and toituer set at the longest polling times. i just don't get how ridiculous this is. i have done 2 hard resets and stopped using a task manager.... none of the tips people post seem to help.
