New EVO Battery Life Sticky: Please Contribute

my battery life is horrible. Being that I don't know how to post my specs of my battery usage, ill just tell you guys.

Android System = 36%
Cell Standby = 30%
phone idle = 23%
display = 9%
internet = 2%

is it normal for the android system to be that high?

If you're using the phone, then yes.

The android system is the power used by your apps

I've been fighting the battery thing for a week or so now. For the first 2 weeks I had it the battery was very good. My usage was a lot less during that time so I thought that would explain the issue I have had the last 2 weeks. I was getting about 5 to 7 hours at a time with pretty steady usage. I loaded Juice Plotter to watch and see how much actual time I had. After a full charge it told me 5-6 hours of time left. Even after I removed all widgets and turned off all unnecessary syncing. I tried all of the scenarios to get a full charge and every time I still only got a 5 -6 hour battery life and it really only lasted that long.

Fed up I did a factory reset and will see how that changes my power use. I have changed the settings for syncing and have no widgets. I am by no means a phone novice and I love the EVO and will do what it takes to fix it.

Now today, the first day after the reset Juice Plotter says I have 10 plus hours remaining and its actually been going up. Hmmm.

Well, I guess we will see. The only thing i did was this from another board.

Also need to calibrate the battery...
With the phone in the on position.
Fully charge the battery with the phone on... (until the led turns green.)
Once the led turns green, unplug the charger until the led goes off.
After the led goes off, plug the charger back in. When the led turns green , power off the phone.
now.... with the phone fully powered off...
1. Unplug the charger.
2. Wait until led goes off.
3. Plug charger back in until the led turns green. When it turns green, unplug the charger again and go to step 1.
4. repeat steps 1 and 3, 10 times. This may take anywhere from 30 seconds to 30 mins per cycle. Typically only about 1 minute. though.

I also have been plagued by horrible battery life since I got my Evo. I've had the phone for about 3 weeks, and like a kid with a new toy, I have been spending a ton of time on it. But even in standby mode I noticed that it would drain 5-10% with no activity.

So after countless attempts of settings tweeking, I have decided to give this a shot. I completed the 10 cycles about a half hour ago and am still at 100% battery life.

I can only hope this works as well as every has says it does. Thanks for the tip!

Update.....

In the 4 hours since I calibrated the battery, I am only down to 86%!! That is with multiple calls, a few emails, some social networking, some market surfing and all widgets still up and going.

This has already made a big improvement....

I might have to give that a try. with moderate use, I get five to six hours max. With heavy use, I get three to four hours.

Is this a one time deal or how often should I do this?

Not sure if it's a one time deal or not, as I've just done it for the first time. This does work really well though. I was able to get 24 hours of medium use, overnight standby time, followed by more medium use.

Since that calibration, I have charged it only once. What I have noticed since the most recent charge is that the battery is draining slightly faster than it was directly after the calibration. But, none the less, it is a drastic improvement from what I was getting in battery life prior to calibration.

IMO, this might have to be done more than once, but only when battery life goes back to 6-8 hrs of charge..

Hope that helps..

^^ Since I keep forgetting the steps... I ordered another extended battery.

My battery life went down the first day after the initial calibration. Unfortunately, it did not work for me.

I definitely got a battery increase, but I am assuming you have to do this every other night. I don't think this is a permanent calibration, it just fully charges your battery.

I'm also thinking of ordering the extended battery. Which one do you recommend? Should I order the one with the extended cover (im worried is going to make my phone look ugly) or should I order the regular extended battery?

Ok so i have had my evo for around 3 weeks now. and atfirst i used it all the time all day and the battery would last for about 8 hours on heavy use.

well now i am back in school and i am not on my phone as much. well i take it off charger at 7 and am out of school at 3 and my battery is always around 20% it never did this before. i am not on it at all at school except for the ocasional text message.

i check the battery status and it says that the android system has used 50% of the battery. i havent been running any apps either and before all this it was only at like 15 or 20%.

one more thing the up time and awake time are always really high (like 40+ hours) before i believe it was only like a few hours i didnt pay that close attention.

any suggestions? Any help at all would be great
Thanks, Brendan

normally, my battery last me five hours, and that is on a good day. I noticed though if I turn off my phone when it's fully charged, unplug the charger and plug it back in until the light turns green, it gives me about 8 hours instead of five.

Get the 3500mAh one with the extended door. It adds a little thickness to the phone, sure, but I found it to actually be easier to grip. Furthermore, it protects the camera lense.

Wow!

42% remaining

13h 34m 35s since unplugged

Android System 96%
Standby 2%
Phone Idle 2%

4G is enabled and I'm running on stock 2.2 with the Sprint apps frozen. I've used the browser, recorded some video, taken a few pics, played Jewels Online, made at least 10 calls, etc..

This is surely a record for me. I normally get 9-10hrs max. :D

UPDATE ********
________________

1d 1h 27m 39s since unplugged (WOO!) and still 13% left. I'm going to be out for awhile though, so I'm going to charge it now. I'm super happy with the results though. The only thing I've changed is freezing the Sprint stuff (Sprint TV, Nascar, Nova, Blockbuster, Kindle, etc..) and not used Advanced Task Killer.

News widget messed up since ota...and other issues

I have been having crazy issues I think it started with the OTA update. My battery life has been reduced by 50%, microSD card unmounts itself randomly, and I have some crazy stuff going on with the news widget. See attached

I don't know if anyone tried this, but I did a factory reset after the OTA update to 3.70 and I have seen a huge improvement in my battery life, I used to loose 25% overnight without doing anything to the phone, I woke up today and I still have 100% (or close to it, still full green bars)

I don't use task killers and running stock everything.

BTW, how do you freeze sprint services?

Freezing the bloat with either Titanium Backup PREMIUM or Bloat Freezer will definitely help battery Life. Sprint NFL Live or whatever it is called is always running if not frozen and frequently downloads stuff, probably scores and stats and I have never even opened it, ever.

Whatever you do just DO NOT delete/uninstall system apps or you will never be able to get OTA updates again.
