New Galaxy, Not sure what to do?!

Hi all,

Recently got a new Galaxy S III.

Heres the deal, i was collecting an assignment. All my stock was collected but noticed in one of the boxes a small parcel that wasnt mine.
Opened the parcel to find an unopened Galaxy S III.

Is the handset ok to use or can it be blocked? Im assuming it will be blocked eventually but was wondering what route to take with the handset as ive never owned a galaxy before.
Ive got ipod/iphone so clued up on jailbreaking as such and the various aspect surrounding that. So ive got a bit of knowledge with such things but dont have the knowledge specifically of what i need to do to make the handset usable.

Ive had a quick read up on rooting the device and am guessing that the direction ill need to head in but are there any specific apps i need to so the handset cannot be blocked?

Apologies if such questions on the forum are not appropiate.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Whenever the person who is supposed to have gotten the phone reports that they didn't receive it, the esn/meid will most likely be deactivated. If you know who it belongs to, just give it to them and save both of your time.

I'd be careful if I were you, I found an iPhone once and thought awesome, however the person who lost it got in contact with their carrier and the police and managed to track the phone. So days later police knocked on my door saying that there is a possible stolen iPhone here and I said yes, if I Had of lied about it I may have got fined but I told them I found it and didn't use it and I was planning to give it in (but I wernt).

My message to you is be careful, use it with a different SIM, if a SIM come with it then destroy it, factory reset the phone, root it and change everything, you may get away with it, just be careful!

Like i say it was an unfortunate accident but not my doing.

I was 170 miles away from the site i was at that misplaced then when i found out what they were so am not about to be driving that distance for someone elses mistake.

Morals? yes i have them but ive asked them to take a back seat for a short time as no one but a corporate company will lose out.
You could say ive managed to aquire this handset in the black hole of the postal system. I have no qualms about a corporate losing a few pounds amongst the billions they turn over.

the phone is unregistered and straight from the supplier, sealed and unopened. no sim card was supplied with it.
Ive powered it up but not put any sim into it nor activated wifi.

Any tips anyone could give me at all?

Strange.

Seems plenty of talk about rooting, which if im right is pretty much a jailbreak.

So you guys using illegal apps, os, roms or other material that is not moral, platforms being used where licenses havnt been paid and im being questioned about my morals?!

Only thing I can tell you is I've seen many many times lost or stolen phones be tracked through GPS and location services. I'd be curious to know whether tracking methods go deeper than using the SIM however. Research heavily how phones get tracked is my best advice. I'd keep that ish too.

I could be wrong, but I don't think you'll be able to activate that phone on any carrier once the esn/meid is reported as missing. I don't think theres a way around that.
