New superphone for sprint soon? HTC Evo 2?

Sprint told you wrong unfortunately. Any 12 month upgrade available on a plan that becomes silver will be lost on April 1. It will be pushed back to the 22 month date from your last upgrade.

If you already have an upgrade available, they won't take it from you though.

CTIA should be interesting. Sprint could be saving a new superphone announcement for then. Honestly though, one superphone won't be enough. Verizon showed off a lot of LTE phones at CES. Sprint needs more than just one. EVO 2, yeah, and definitely a sequel to the Epic has to be coming up with Samsung announcing the GalaxyS II. Sprint's only got three 4G phones over 8 months since the release of the EVO.

I don't know if the recent talks of Sprint moving to LTE have something to do with the lack of new WiMAX phone announcements from them but this is pretty lame.

The only real superphones I consider out of all those LTE phones are the droid bionic and the LG LTE phones

Wow, are phone specs (dual core vs single) really that big a deal to jump to a new phone? It seems like iphone users are more concerned with what they can do with their phone rather than what cpu is in there. I don't think i'll ever understand why other communities aren't this way.

Well thing is, doesn't it make sense that if you want a fast experience, then you need a fast cpu? Plus iPhone owners are dumb bimbos and all they care about is the 'GBz and the wifiz'.

Well the other thing is that adding a cpu core is not going to double performance. This community if any would be the one to understand that unless the mobile apps are written specifically for symmetrical multi-processing, there is diminished returns on performance. And also consider battery life can now also take a hit until the OS is optimized for it which i hear is baked into 2.4. Aren't Evo owners still waiting on 2.3?

The point overall is that this is an evolutionary move, not revolutionary, so i just don't get why people really need to drop their phone to get this one unless it truly was providing more features. Like if the Evo2 was a honeycomb exclusive on sprint, I can totally see that, but a second CPU on a phone thats already dumb fast.....before its even OC'd or ROM flashed?

If anything my wish list is really true engineering in battery design/optimization and how about apps that are just like the iphone counterparts instead of some of these half assed ports (yeah, i know out of scope for a new device but still annoys me). But that's just me.

I was going to comment on how all I really cared about was a bump in battery life until I read your last line. Honestly, for me the Evo is leaps and bounds more powerful than my Palm Pre so I'm sure I'd be thrilled with it. My biggest issue with going with the Evo right now is that it's been out for 7+ months and I feel like the upgrade to it is right around the corner. If battery life was reported to be better on the Evo, I'd have already jumped ship to it a long time ago.

Yeah i fully appreciate your position, every situation is indeed different. I am 10 years in June on Sprint so Feb next year I can go for the Evo2 if its available. I honestly do like a phone to be out for a little while to see where it goes and the list of issues to surface. Had I done that before, I wouldn't have went with a Pre that was mostly a frustrating experience. So I bailed for the EVO 10 days ago. It also helps when your open to carrier changes since termination fees are prorated now.

FYI, Battery life: On the first week where the battery isn't even "broken in", the battery life is already twice what I got on my Pre with AIM/Gtalk and BT always on. And no need to patch on an Evo like a Pre. Some of those patches were definitely known to be juice raping.

Overall what I notice is that the real battery hog is the screen because when I'm not using this thing, even with all these social networks and mail constantly polling, there is a very small drain. If I forget to charge at 50%, i'll wake up 8 hours later with it at 35%. The Pre? LOLOLOLOL. The 4G is also a killer but I only use that (ah hem TRY to use Sprints 4G in Brooklyn where its very ****ty) in the car for internet radio while on the charger anyway.

Thanks for the info/comparison. I definitely appreciate hearing people's experiences when switching from the Pre to Evo. I'm most likely going to buy an Evo off contract and then upgrade this summer when other phones come out.

I'm in the same boat. Upgrade eligible but didn't want to sign a new 2-yr contract on an Evo just before CTIA (Evo 2 coming?). Keep an eye on ebay. New in box clean esn evo's are showing up for $300-$350.

I was a launch day Pre minus user who hung on but can't any longer. HP's webOS is still the best multi-tasking and "synergized" OS but HP/Palm keeps shooting themselves in the foots.

Yea, I was really trying to wait it out for CTIA... but my Pre is dying a horrible death. I agree though that WebOS is pretty much superior to any OS out there. But lack of apps and hardware kill it.

I'm hoping for a price drop on the Evo soon, also. Hopefully, it will come before April 1st when the new Sprint Premiere plans go into effect and I lose my upgrade until August (it will be 22 months for my wife and I at that point). However, June-July is usually the big release window for phones so I may tough it out with our Pres. Mine is in pristine shape but my wife is how shall we say, "agressive" with her electronics.

If you already have the upgrade, they aren't going to take it away. But if you were slated to get your upgrade after April 1st, you won't get it until 22 months.Or at least that's what I've been told (twice) by Sprint.

I want to know if there will be an EVO 2!!!

Currently, I'm with Verizon. I have one of their first droid phones and I'm very jealous that the EVO is out and I don't have it. I love the screen and all that it can do.

Seeing as how Verizon has the Thunderbolt coming out, and it's identical to the Sprint Evo in almost every way, except it's got a little more space as well as it's a little quicker, I am beginning to wonder if there will be an Evo 2 around the corner.

That will be the determining factor. To stay with Verizon or switch to sprint.

I don't have my Verizon upgrade until september, so I'm trying to make my decision.

So... Is there an Evo 2 on the way?

Looks like Sprint will be unveiling a new devise at CTIA at the end of the month as per:Sprint Has Something Up Its Sleeve For March 22

At least I am betting that they are. I am up for an upgrade now and my wife at the end of this month. I am going to give my upgrade to my wife so that she can get the EVO and I am hopping on an EVO2 or the announcement of an iPhone coming to Sprint. With this new silver BS I do not want to get a one year old EVO and be stuck with it for 22 months. If I was still on the one year upgrade cycle I would have already gotten the EVO.
My 2.2 running hero is getting tired. My wife has the horrible Samsung s30 that has been a pile of crap since day one.

IMO the Bolt is way more than an EVO clone. Its got better everything even down to the kickstand which now you can use the device vertically. **thinks to self ** I'd would be so shocked if the EVO2 wasn't just a spec bump to put it in line with the BOLT or just a tad better on the spec sheet.**

I'd be surprised and disappointed by this.

Remember, that when the EVO came out it was HTC's masterpiece putting the best of everything into one phone. It is difficult to remember because it was so long ago and handsets have come so far in that time, but the EVO had the best specs of any phone on the market.

+1/\ on the EVO ... The bolt is better then the Evo right now and it only took new hardware and 9+ months for that to happen... If it would have came out last september I would be saying something different... But thsts not the case... Also if dual core tec wasn't going to be the standard this year ( which thats what is seems to be for highend phones this year) i would agree that the EVO 2 would hve the same spics of the bolt... Who knows it still might... If they don't go 2 cores on the next 1 they will most likey use the flyer tab cor 1.5.... My upgrade is not yp till august so depending on what they anounce i may switch or stay with sammy and bump to Epic2....

Amen to that. It's like rolling the dice which phone will get Cyanogenmod first, if at all.

I had a Hero for a while before trading for a Moment. I like the Moment a lot more, but development is not half what it is for the hero.
