New update killed my battery life

Battery life is getting a little better but still not close to what I used to get, I got 11 hours 100% -> 0% (shutdown) today. I did the PRL update...

I think I'm going to try a hard reset when I get home later. If that doesnt help I'm definetly going to exchange it. I freaking love this phone but it's useless if it can't stay on throughout an entire day.. with very light use...

I just got 17 hours with medium/light use, including some gps and camera. I have done the update and prl update. Its the best I have done since getting the phone on launch day. Take that for what you will

bump, do the new phones now come with this already updated? If i went and bought one tomorrow from sprint

Pretty sure they DON'T come pre-updated. I got one on Monday (insurance claim) and I installed the update the same day after it prompted me.

I have to agree with you, after the PRL update my battery life has definitely improved. I made it through today(light use) with approx 70% of my battery left, but more importantly, I didn't hear the phone beep at me from dropping service inside the office. I think this was the culprit for my terrible battery life at work! So much for having to do a hard reset :D Before the PRL update my phone was shutting off by the time I got home...If this is the case, Sprint should have it do a PRL update after doing a software update!!!

P.S. The beeping from it dropping service inside the office was annoying since I couldn't turn off the sound and I'm not supposed to have a cell on me for security reasons! Random beeps from my pocket make for awkward situations, lol.

My cell standby has gone up to 40+% too. My battery used to be great, then the update took effect and now my battery is not lasting throughout the day.

that is the consensus on most boards. the update reduces battery life. You can see it on the posted overnight figures which are the cleanest way to test. standby time is way up.

I swapped out one Epic on Saturday and left the old firmware and and configured it exactly as one of our others with new firmware. on 10 hour overnight alone, with no use the updated Epic is losing 35% (35% of loss, 9% gross) more than the non updated Epic. Crazy.

Its going to vary from store to store. I know of several corporate Sprint stores that once an update is released by Sprint, they flash all the phones they have in the back with that update.

My drain is much worse today, after two days of it being somewhat better. I have been off charger for 2hrs 15min and have sent only two texts so far today. I am down to 87% with cell standby eating 63%. I have also noticed that since the update, when I take it off the charger, it is at 96-97%.

Taking it to Sprint tonight, if there is no explanation and word of a fix within the next week, it will be exchanged, or they can just keep it, credit my account and I will re-activate my Evo. I like the phone a lot. However, this doesn't fly. Their update and "performance improvement" pretty much ruined it for me.

Ok well last night I let the battery go dead and charged it full while the phone was off... someone said this fixed their phone but it did nothing for me. I think it may have made it worse.

I made one phone call today lasting 1 minute. I am at work now and I have it in airplane mode the entire time. I am now at 81% battery life from 6:00 AM to 10:25 AM making one phone call on the way to work.

Whats even stranger... look at what my batter usage looks like:

Voice calls - 34%
Display - 20%
Phone Idle - 18%
cell standby - 13%
android system - 6%

This is totally the opposite of what used to happen on my phone... Display was always the biggest killer of battery. and I only made 1 call today.

Can anyone tell me how to do a hard reset? Because I think I really need one...

I am trying my hardest to love this phone... I really am but I don't know if I can take much more of this crap.

1. turn off phone
2. while holding volume down and camera button press power and hold all 3
3. with the hardware keyboard use the arrows to select the reset option
4. hit the home button below the screen
5. confirm action

Great. what exactally does this do? Will this erase the data on my phone or just reset it?

Yeah. Battery life dropping for me too.
Something about this update is REALLY hitting the cell radio HARD.
dropped from 98% to 74% in 1 hour and 50 minutes. It is checking emails, but I only made one 2 minute phone call.

For the last 3 hours I've had the phone in plane mode, and it hasn't dropped at all. Still at 74%.

I'm going to double check that I don't have any obnoxious apps hitting the battery, but I haven't installed anything new since the update.

Battery life fixed! I turned off "BatteryLife" so I'm not constantly monitoring it. ;) OK I'm getting worse battery life than before the update but it's still lasting the day easily for me so I've stopped obsessing about it.

So I turned off ATK to see what would happen after reading all of this. I noticed the lowered battery life since the update.

Without ATK I'm only getting maybe 10 minutes less every 20%. Before it was a significant amount more batter life with ATK.

Without ATK on without using the phone I got 4 hours for 20% battery. And I'm saying NO USE. Just sitting on the desk for 4 hours. With ATK I was getting 15 hours plus with light texting and calling use for 20%. Now I'm getting around 2 hours for 20%. That would 10 hours an entire battery.

I noticed that samsung and sprint were listening on the upload speeds and have responded to that: how come they haven't given us a reason why I have a lap top that chargers faster and why battery life is so poor.

The biggest problem I notice is standby battery consumption. That NEEDS to be fixed. There's not reason I should only get 4 hours every 20% battery with NO USE. Where as with ATK before the update I could have gotten 20 hours with NO USE.

It seems like the new update has been disabled. I received a replacement yesterday and I have not received any notification for an update and wow my battery lasts so much longer. With the update cell standby was draining the battery but not anymore.
