New v20 first impressions 2 days from N7 and Iphone 6s

That's why I added this phone to the squadron. Hope it impresses. Looking forward to comparing it to my dedicated headphone amps.

I don't really like this DAC but it is very convenient, on the go - having tunes and all of my FLAC files..

And spelling, apparently.

V20 has a long hill to climb to be a better package than my N7. I've never had a phone with better build quality, and it feels just awesome in the hand. Too bad it will burn you.

Yeah, I still like the Note 7, spen included but we really need to move on - that product is discontinued and a risk to keep...

What don't you like about the DAC? I'll be comparing it to 2 Burson Audios and an Oppo HA-1 with Grado GS-2000e Statements and some lesser cans. It should at least be fun and I hope it sounds fun.

I'm looking forward to listening to some files on the V20 as well.

Recently I've been traveling with my Fiio X5, Oppo HA-2 combo paired with Oppo PM-3s. I also have a set of Shure SE846s. I am hoping the PM-3s and SE846s pair well with V20, allowing me to lighten my load a bit at times.

Closer to home I use a less portable iFi Micro iDSD/Grado GS 1000e combo.

I don't expect the last V20 to compete with the iFi but having some higher quality options right on the phone is super appealing. It also gives me a nice place to use the 256gb microsd I got with my N7 pre-order....

Amen. My hubby says I'm gonna go deaf but I don't listen too loud. My son says, "Mommy you look cool with those on!" With the V20 I may follow him around the house with my Grados on jamming out.

Points to consider:

1. Apparently LTE signal reception is great on the V20. That is an issue that hurt the Note 7. Note 4 has 10 dBm better signal in mid to weak signal areas (huge). If the V20 has great reception, that will help battery life in non strong signal areas.

2. Make sure you take a spare battery with you if using the DACs to push high impedance headphones. Physics wins out and the battery is the loser. Takes lots of relative power to push wired headphones not intended for portability.

3. Judging any device during the first day for smoothness can be misleading. Best to hold judgement a few days until device set-up has settled. Ditto for battery life.

4. In regards to the navigation bar (I agree it is annoying wasting 15% of display space) LG has the option to hide the bar in apps via a display setting option. You can flag the apps you want the bar hidden, but does it work for all apps, or still gives the black bar minus the nav buttons? That would defeat the point. All apps can fill the display, since Samsung devices do it with capacitive buttons. Should be no difference if hiding the buttons.

5. Best to get a case to reduce chances of water frying the device. The display would be the first thing to short out if water gets in the case.

6. BB has in store $200 credit (no contract required) for any device as long as not cracked and can power up. My G1 will be sacrificed for a noble cause. I go to BB a lot, so will net the device down to about $512, plus the mail in free buds.

Your right about holding judgement until everything settles because my phone is even faster after a couple of days and mops the floor with my old N7 lol. I also get 4 to 6 hrs screen on time with moderate to heavy usage. Cell/WiFi signal strength embarrasses the N7 as well. I'm loving this phone!!

We'll I'm just using a Sony NW-ZX100 with Sony MDR-1As. Playing the same FLAC files with the same headset, the main difference is that there appears to be more separation in instruments and a little more bass. I just find the Sony DAC to be a tad more enjoyable but the v20 works on subways, moments where you do not have your audiophile setup handy..

audiophiles believe in burn in. I keep my v20 going all night driving my headphones for that reason..

I agree. My V20 is so much faster and smoother than the Note 7 or S7 edge I had before it. I also briefly used a G5 and the V20's screen is drastically better.

Have you found any conditions that have made the phone lag or heat up significantly? Wondering if the Snapdragon 820 will stutter (compared to the 821) if if Nougat is enough to resolve a lot of those issues.

Only at the very beginning when it was syncing and restoring apps and settings from Google. But since then it's been stellar.

This makes me feel happy inside.

.

This is good to know. My S7 Edge has pretty awful LTE and Wi-Fi reception. Awful for a modern device.

I am on Verizon which is generally strong everywhere and at home I have OnHub, and my S7 Edge always drops the connection

It is going to take a little more listening time for me. My initial impression with the Audeze Sine were meh, but it was growing on me. To be fair I was still in the process of setting up my new phone when I was trying to listen and really wasn't focusing on the music. I will also try it with my Rhapsodio Solar's a little later today. I do remember when I had the HTC 10 it was really nice, but they used a bit of software trickery with that as well. Also, I am trying to NOT compare it to my AK 120 II presently. More feedback later.

Anyone put the Google Launcher on their v20?

I like the simplicity of the Google Launcher interface and may give it a shot when my V20 comes next week.

I like the launcher too. it is on the second display and very handy - keeps a lot of apps in one place.
