New VOIP option for GV - single app solution: GrooVe IP

As far as I know, when you port your number to GV (or any "phone provider") then you're not able to use that number on the previous service.

For example: you have (123) 456-7890 on Verizon, switch to sprint and port the number over. You now have the number on Sprint...but if you wanted Verizon service again you'd have to get a new number.

The same basic principle is in effect with GV. When you move (123) 456-7890 to GV, it is then GV's number, not VM's. So if you wanted to continue to use VM's services...you'd need another number.

Believe this is correct. If you port your number then you can't use it on the previous service. Sprint is the exception since they have some integration with Google Voice.

Just wanted to put in my 2 cents. As I may possibly be moving to a different country, I wanted to make sure I had a VOIP program installed and working. Could not have been simpler. Installed, set up google voice, set up Groove IP following instructions under the help option, and done. Tested on wifi and 3g, perfect. Also have GV for texts with a widget on homescreen. Amazing.

My only question was not quite app related..

When creating the google voice account, it asked me if I wanted to port my number to them, or create a new one. I would ideally like to simply port it and be done with it, but it said something that threw up a red flag that it might remove it from my service provider. So I simply created a new number.

My question is basically would porting my number to GV remove my service, or any complications for that matter, with VM?
That is correct, if you port your number to any other provider, including GV, your account with VM will be closed. You would then have to create a new VM account and set that up with GV to be the phone it rings to. Not a big deal if you are under the new pricing already, but there is no way to port your number away and retain your grandfathered pricing. Love this! I have crappy service where I live, but always have wifi...and to add Google Voice to the wifi, I get unlimited calling now instead of my 300 minutes. Now if only Google Voice would take away their pesky 3 hour call limit then I'd be good as gold! haha

Ok, I have tried everything and I still cannot receive calls, outgoing works perfectly but, incoming does not work. I have the bumblebee v2.4 Rom.

Usually when I receive a call it will ring through completely on the callers end, but on my end I receive at max half of the last ring.

That does seem to be my only problem with this so far. I am loving it!

Now THIS was funny!! I don't quite think I've talked for THAT long, but I do have very long conversations with my best friend... hmmmm.. we may have topped two hours. :)

My girlfriend lives in Arizona, and I'm in Michigan. Over the summer for some reason her internet went out, and idk what exactly was wrong, but I'm guessing they were doing upgrades and had to physically upgrade the lines because they couldn't handle the software. Or something like that. Not entirely sure.

Nonetheless 2 months without internet so all we had was phone calls. Average call was probably like 5-6 hours, twice a week. The 9+ hour call was because I started working third shift here in Michigan, so I wasn't able to call twice a week, only on the weekends.

Version 1.2.5 & Version 1.2.6
- Allow rotation by default
- Improve landscape layout of in-call screen for phones and smaller tablets
- Fix a force close on Honeycomb devices when hanging up
- Bug fixes

Version 1.2.7
- Fix dialpad not appearing in calls for certain tablets

Sorry for the deluge of updates. Amazon still has 1.2.4, we'll be working with them to go straight to 1.2.7. If that isn't possible 1.2.5 will come out and then we'll update to 1.2.7 and skip 1.2.6

If only it had a transfer feature like a few sip softphones such as sipdroid and mizudroid, it would be unbeatable.

Version 1.2.9:
- Shrink tab sizes for smaller screens
- Work around for buttons not working on Galaxy S WiFi 5.0
- Add favorites tab
- Add audio menu to in-call screen

Seems like this app has become more unstable, more audio issues and dropped calls sense version 1.2.2 or 1.2.4

Not sure what version you are using now. But one thing to remember is since everything is over your data connection, call quality and stability will depend on the stability and quality of the network. Calls will drop if the network drops. Even a small glitch can cause a call to drop or cause choppy voice since nothing is buffered everything is in real time.

This happened was happening a lot in 1.2.8 and 1.2.9 and its always been over wifi

If nothing else has changed on the phone would suggest trying to reinstall the app. The last few releases have been mostly UI changes. Adding the tabbed layout, recent call log and favorites.

Do any changes to the advanced settings need to be made for the Optimus V? Or do you guys just leave it all on default?

I would second this question. I have tried GrooVe IP for a while now off and on and really it seems almost unusable to me. I am currently on the Bumblebee ROM, and have 15 MBps down, 5 MBps up Fios at home (with good wifi coverage) with similar numbers at my office. At both locations, calls always seem to echo to the point of not being able to understand the other party and have a noticeable delay that, while I can fight through with close friends or my wife, wouldn't want to deal with just about anyone else.

I have tried messing with the echo cancellation settings, and the settings in Troubleshooting, but with no real success. Anyone who has it working well want to share the rundown of their settings?
