Nexus 10 Slow WiFi after 5.0 Update

Yep, that is often a mistake just accepting a replacement. Google support is very quick to just send replacement devices for no good reason and without adequate troubleshooting. Pretty strange, actually.

One good thing about getting the replacement device is that it comes with a new full 24 month warranty! So not a total waste of time.

I've rolled back my Nexus 10 to 4.4.4 and i'll wait until all the Lollipop issues are resolved before attempting to upgrade again.

Hi guys.. I'm reading this thread with big interest..
Yesterday I updated my Nexus 10 from 4.2.2 to 5.01.
After that I experienced super slow wifi. So slow that this page for example needed almost 45secs to load after it failed two times before completely. Same problem with other pages. Parallel my Nexus 5 (4.4.4) using the same wifi loads the page nice and quick.
Google Play almost doesn't work. The wifi speed tests don't work at all.. failing all the time.
GMail can receive emails but can't send any.

I tried switching the location and energy saving options like you wrote here before but there was no positive effect..
I rebooted several times (after changing options).. didn't help
I uninstalled all apps which were not original android factory apps incase there were some no up to date apps causing the trouble. Didn't help.
Made a factory reset. Didn't help.
I had the wifi options on automatic. I tried 5GHz. This worked for 5secs like a charme but dropped out afterwards all the time.. 2.4GHz works super slow..

Where am I now?
I gave up and in order to downgrade to 4.x I took the tablet to my other house where I have my PC.
I enabled usb debugging and prepared the PC to install Android 4.x on the Nexus 10.
While waiting for the preparations to finish I thought I might as well try the wifi here and see if the problems still occur.
Now all of a sudden the N10 wifi works perfectly with the 2.4GHz band.. what has changed?

All I can say is that
- I enabled usb debugging
- in my neighbourhood are only around 10 other wifis where in the other house there were at least 25 pretty near..

Since for some of you some of the changes worked for the same problem I guess that not only one changed option is responsible but a combination of different option might cause the problem.. or the tablet just can't handle the communication while 20+ other wifis in near distance are present as well..

Now I'm rethinking downgrading the tablet before having tested it again..

On a german forum people found out that WiFi is working properly if you change the security type on the access point/router from AES to TKIP. But be aware that this might cause problems with other devices. At least my printer, which also connects via WiFi, doesn't work with the router set to TKIP.

That is a significant downgrade in security.

Made account just to say that absolutely nothing helped the crippled wifi on lollipop (5.0 and 5.0.1) on nexus 10 except downgrading to kitkat 4.4.4. I tried changing all possible router settings, factory reset, band frequency changing etc. Nothing helped. Rolling back to kitkat made wifi working as good as before the lollipop disaster.

Same problem here. Wifi is comically slow. If I use my phone's wifi in the exact same location it's like 10 times faster. Terrible.

Has anyone tried flashing the 5.0.2 image from developers.google.com/android/nexus/images yet?

If not, would someone who is running 5.0.1 be willing to give this a try and report back results? (I would do it myself, but i've rolled my Nexus 10 back to 4.4.4 and don't want to install 5.0.2 if it makes no difference to the WiFi issue!)

Since the problem was intermittent for me, I wanted to have a few days with 5.0.2 before reporting back. As you and probably others are highly interested in getting some feedback, I suppose its okay to provide an initial report.

I found a post on XDA where someone said 5.0.2 did not resolve slow WiFi on his Nexus 10. I'm happy to report that, so far, I have not had the same experience as that poster. It is night and day compared to 5.0.1. I have not noticed slow WiFi performance at all since flashing 5.0.2.

I'll make sure to add an update after spending some more days with it.

After upgrading to Android 5.0, I am having the exact same issues on my Asus Nexus 7.
Everything is very very slow after the upgrade.

I wanted to provide another update. While I did notice one or two periods of slowish WiFi, 5.0.2 has been a marked improvement over 5.0.1. I have had zero random reboots, and I suffered from those under 4.x.x and now the WiFi issue appears to be mostly resolved.

I also have a significant slowness issue in any action on my Asus Nexus 7 after upgrading to Android 5. It is not just an internet speed issue. I hope there will be a fix for this upgrade as I am not sure how to downgrade back to Android 4.

What changed was your router.

Most likely the problem people are reporting with slow wifi is some type of unusual incompatibility with certain routers or certain router configurations. Your experience just seems to mirror that. You might want to consider checking and updating the firmware in your router, resetting THAT to factory defaults and playing around with the configuration of the router. If nothing works, you might consider swapping the router for something different/better/newer or loading decent Linux firmware on it (if available).

I know I have never had slow wifi on my N10 with any version of Android Linux connected at 2.4 or 5Ghz on any of my routers. Right now I am using an Asus RT-68U running Tomato Shibby Linux firmware.

After upgrading to Android 5.0, I am having the exact same issues on my Asus Nexus 7.
Everything is very very slow after the upgrade.

My Nexus 7 runs like a whippet on steroids (17.83 MBps), but Mums Nexus 10 has slowed to an average of 0.24 MBps. We have both recently upgraded to 5. I updated her tablet to 5.02 today. Sadly no assistance there.

Same issue here.
I use Network Monitor Mini for displaying network traffic while downloading, it’s a nifty little tool.

Netgear WNDR3800 2.5 GHz (b/g/n) : download rate about 18Mbps
Netgear WNDR3800 5 GHz (a/n) : download rate about 18Mbps
Zyxel NBG4615 2.4 GHz (b/g/n) : download rate 8Mbps for a few seconds. Then WiFi on Nexus10 slows down to 5kbps for about 40 seconds, speeds up again to a few Mbps for a few seconds, slows down again to almost a standstill for about 40 seconds and so forth.

When downloading from the same Zyxel wireless with the laptop I get about 30Mb/s. Oddly, it drops to almost a standstill every once in a while for less than a second when the router attempts to change speed (e.g. working on 72Mbps and then briefly attempting to increase to 144Mbps stops the traffic for less than a second, but definitely not for the 40 seconds the Nexus 10 is stopping) No issue on the Samsung Notes on KK though.

Don’t know what the culprit is on my Nexus10, but those recurring 40 seconds of no traffic certainly spoil the fun with the Nexus10. I have the hypothesis that it freezes when WiFi attempts to change speed – but no means for proofing it.

Bruno, you just described the behavior of my N10 exactly! I have been a Nexus owner of phones and tablets from the beginning, but after the 5.0 update, my N10 is really frustrating to use. 5.01 helped some, but the WiFi issue remains. This is the last Nexus device for me.

Well, I wanted to report that I still have WiFi slowness from time to time. It's better than on 5.0.1, but not great. I hope 5.1 fixes it.
