Nexus 5: First Impressions & Reviews

Re: Nexus 5 First Impressions & Reviews

Hi guys!
Can I get a little input on my dilemma, please?
I am planning to buy a new phone...soon. I've looked at the N5 and as an android virgin, I liked what I saw. Was about to buy it back in December, but getting my hands on one outside the google store's area is hard and expensive as hell so I decided to wait a bit. My 6yo nokia e51 has started to fall apart recently, but now I wonder if I should wait for the N6... I could probably hold out 'till it's release. I don't like charging my phone every single day (the e51 still lives a week happily) and I heard the N6 might get bigger batteries and I plan on using a phone for more than 4 years at least. What do you guys think, is it worth waiting for the N6?

If you don't want to charge your phone daily, you probably want to wait. I've had to charge my last four smart phones daily (iPhone 3s, Samsung s3, nexus 4 and now nexus 5). They would last more than a day if you don't use the phone much, but that's not may case. You might want to consider a phone with a bigger batter like the LG g2, note 3, etc.

Or, buy a wireless charger or two. They are great. When I'm at my desk at work, I just place it there. When I'm home, that's also where it sits. I also have an external battery pack from anker that I got a while back. I take that when I know I'll be gone for a long time or need to use my phone a lot. Good luck!

One day in and I'm impressed. Only thing I miss is my old phone had a one tap option to have spam phone numbers get added to a block list and go right to voice mail (of course they never left a message)

I've created a blocked user group and will put spammers there; it's just not as simple.

Otherwise I love the blazing speed :-)

It remains to be seen what Lenovo is going to do with the Moto X which makes me leery of buying one. But it is a great phone at a great price the only Android phone I would buy on Verizon.

Thanks for the input. I found out the other day that I can't even purchase this for Verizon :-( Really wish that wasn't the case

Thinking of giving the Droid Maxx a shot as that and the Moto X are the closest to stock Android on Verizon.

Are you experiencing static noise in videos recorded in quiet environments ?

Comming from BlackBerry 10 the whole of seems disorganised. On BlackBerry 10 I have the hub and all the information I need from my notifications doesn't go away so it's been an adjustment now that I'm comming back to Android. What struck me about the phone was how light the device is. It feels just like my CR-48 but that's both good and bad. I mean I love the feel like I'm using a prototype piece of hardware. But I don't like how unfinished it feels. It's going to take some adjustments but the screen size it's bigger than my Z10 and loads more than my Q10.

It just feels so weird now. Android does. I can't help but think I am missing out when I'm not using my BlackBerry. Something I feel is missing and I just can't figure it out.

-Yar I be a pirate because according to Phil & CO. Over at Android Central because I run 10.2 and I sideload.

Re: Nexus 5 First Impressions & Reviews

I am curious if you are still loving this phone? I have an iPhone 5 and have been thinking of trying the N5.

I am. Sorry it took so long to respond but I am still loving it. Hope you do too!

I think I originally posted in the wrong thread. Came from a 4S and love it. Just a better phone all round. Never thought I'd see the day I love an android phone.

In my case I got the Nexus 5 for just €6,= when I prolonged my plan for another 2 years. I upgraded to 4G/LTE @ €45 per month.

My first Android OS mobile phone ! Before this my history is as follows;
(1995) Siemens S4 | Ericsson T68 | Siemens Xelibri 4 | Ericsson R380 | Nokia N95 | Nokia N900 | Nokia N9 | Jolla/Sailfish | Nexus 5 (2014)

I must say that the N5 is smooth, fast well integrated with all that is Google, maybe too much... ? I'd like more control.
Plenty of apps, but not all work. So it is hard to choose between 250+ apps that claim to do the same.
When I go to forums to find out user experiences and so the best apps, I see lots & lots of shills posting that app x,y,z is the best :(

However the price (full €396,= here) vs performance is very good ! Specs are very good, though I am not a benchmarketing person. My Jolla does almost the same with much lower specs but gives me much more 'freedom'.

So, you don't like the amount of choices you have with the Nexus 5, and prefer the Jolla for freedom?

Choice is good, but freedom is better and that is what Maemo, MeeGo & Sailfish are all about... as should all when Linux, even just the kernel, is used, like in Android.
I do believe in open source.

I purchased Nexus 5 from the Amazon.com for $350. I was one of those people who knew it was coming out and waited patiently on the day of to order it right away. I was told it would take about 11 days to show up, however, I received it about 5 days later, including weekends.

The phone is great. For the price (and I honestly think that this phrase undervalues the specs on the phone) you cannot get a better deal. This phone goes head to head with every top phone on the market today, and that's something that can't be said of others.

I switched from an iPhone to this Android phone. If you are in the same boat Apple puts you in year after year with their controlling updates and seemingly endless process of outdating perfectly good phones so you have to buy their newest one, you should highly consider this phone. Google does an excellent job getting bugs fixed and updates out to you, and they take less than 5 minutes to install. You will be running the latest and greatest Android has to offer, and you don't have to worry about being outdated anytime soon.

Re: Using my new nexus5 right now

Re: Using my new nexus5 right now

I have a note 3 myself and I bought a N5 for my girlfriend.

I'm seriously liking more the N5 than my note 3

Re: Using my new nexus5 right now

I've had my Nexus 5 for 4 months and absolutely love it! There may be phones with better build quality (HTC One), or a better camera (LG G2 / Samsung Galaxy S5), or battery life, but for the price it's such a great device! Given that my brother was due for a new phone, and both him and his wife wanted to switch providers, they decided to join in on the fun.............

What is it that you like better?

Sent from the Samsung Galaxy Note 3...yeah, it's spectacular.

Re: Using my new nexus5 right now

when i first used it at a study i really thought the UI was really nice and the transition between apps and whatnot.

Re: Using my new nexus5 right now

Have been using it for 5 days and I can say it's a beast phone :)

Here is a post that I posted on Google+. The device I'm referring to is the merits of the N5. Note 3 is nice too. I'm a die-hard Nexus 5 fan but really appreciate the Note 3. The discussion was about the S5 and HTC M8 and what was good about them. See below:
"Here's another perspective. There are devices that can do what either of these devices do for much less. I'm speaking of core features. You can get a really acceptable display, performance and features that you use every day in a device for almost half the price. The savings ... spend on a nice tablet. If it's going to be your only device ....... need a bigger display for reading ...... surfing the internet, working ..... removeable batterry, external storage, latest in hardware specs, great battery life .... huge support in accessories ...etc ...etc. Show me how you can beat the Note 3? (other than it's a little pricey)! Perhaps Oppo! (the jury is still out and not readily available)! Does this, in your mind, have merit?"
