Naked or Case?

Re: Naked of Case?

I have always used cases on my phones. I work in field service and as such I'm always out and about. I don't intentionally mistreat devices, but there are times when crap happens and I would rather the case take the hit instead of the phone.

Re: Naked of Case?

In theory, I would love to use any well designed smartphone nekkid. But the 5 is my first flagship phone and really want it to last for a couple of years. So I put it in a Slim Armor case with an iSmooth screen protector. Yes, I said it: screen protector.

Re: Naked of Case?

I would typically put a case on my smartphones, because 1) they're expensive and 2) I tend to drop them.

Yesterday, I dopped my nexus 5 a almost 5 ' directly on to a hardwood floor. I thought for sure it would be broken. It bounced. It survived without so much as a mark.

I'm gonna run this baby naked!
I'm VERY impressed.

Re: Naked of Case?

If I'm probably ending putting a case on my Nexus 5, there won't be visible differences between the black and the white model, right? (Except for the white speaker grill)

Re: Naked of Case?

I had one of these Amazon.com: i-Blason Slim Fit S Line Flexible TPU Case for Google Nexus 4 Smart Phone E960 LG 8gb 16gb (Black): Cell Phones & Accessories on my Nexus 4 for most of the 11-1/2 months I have owned it. The phone itself still looks brand new and has easily survived the few 3-foot drops onto various flooring surfaces.

The Nexus 5 is in one of these Amazon.com: Diztronic Matte Back Black Flexible TPU Case for LG Nexus 5 - Retail Packaging: Cell Phones & Accessories and I expect to have the same results as above.

Do I prefer naked phones? Yes (although the N4 was particularly hard to handle naked, always slipping off of surfaces and such). But I also like for my phones to stay in pristine condition.

Re: Naked of Case?

Naked as much as possible, but I've learned that historically in active and unfamiliar situations my phones tend to take more abuse than a normal day, so I'll be putting the case on it in those scenario's.

Re: Naked of Case?

I have purchased a case, but I don't use it. I feel the phone is too big with a case on. Got the spigen neo hybrid. I run naked unless I'm out on the p*ss or something motorsport related where there's a higher chance of damage.

Re: Naked of Case?

Bummer that they don't have the crystal shell variant of the Ultra Fit for sale on their ebay page. I guess I'll get it from Amazon.

Ditto. I had just received the Ultra Hybrid, and I was disappointed it still looks a bit thick. I'm seeing if Spigen (or Amazon) can do an exchange for the crystal shell Ultra Fit instead. In the meantime, I'm living dangerously with my naked Nexus 5.

Re: Naked of Case?

Just got my spigen ultra fit smooth black. Feels absolutely awesome! Is that how the black one feel? (I have the white).

Re: Naked of Case?

So do you think this guy feels more Macho now paying the $257 to replace his N5 screen? I don't. I hope he buys a quality case when it is fixed or replaced since if you own your phone long enough you are going to drop it.

Is it hard to DIY Repair Nexus 5 Screen?

Sucks to be him. I'm willing to assume the risk for the pleasure of being naked.

That said, I'm going on a trip for two weeks next month and might consider some protection. You never know who I might meet. ;)

Re: Naked of Case?

I bought 2 Ringke cases for my N4, after using them for a few months I removed them and just used the N4.
This time around I picked a Spigen case, cause I liked how the white N5 looks (I bought a black model though), so I can occasionally enjoy that look, but I'll probably just remove the case 90% of the time.

Re: Naked of Case?

Because my Nexus 4 shattered after half a week when I put it on my desk.

Looks like this one is more sturdy, but I bought a case when I got it JIC.

Re: Naked of Case?

I just ordered a case from Amazon I can't wait to get the case from the play store. I been using it with out a case and I don't use it much because I don't want it to break I just feel with a case I will feel better and not all my finger prints will be on the phone.

I petrified to use my phone/tablet without a case. I'm one of those weirdos that has to keep their gear in the best possible condition...forever. Cases make that goal easier to achieve.

I am this way too. Screen protector and case from day one.

It helps me keep my devices in mint condition for higher resale prices.

I like the balance between the protection and weight of a tpu case. Had a tudia at launch but it was lifting up my screen protector on the bottom corners and was kinda slippery on the sides.

Went to my ole standby, the CIMO S line TPU case. Great fit and grippy sides!

Re: Naked of Case?

I have the white N5 and I keep it in a case while at work. Weekends, it's like me, naked.
