Nexus 5: Naked or Case?

Naked or Case?

I ended up with the gray bumper(yes the expensive one) directly from Google play. I like the case, it saved the phone from a drop in a parking lot. I could have gotten a cheaper case but this one looks and performs great.

I would recommend the black one, gray one is getting dirty fast but I like the look of the gray better.

Also for a screen protector, get the Rhino shield version. Its $30 but will take a beating.

I'm thinking of getting the black. How do you like that case? Anything you don't like? How does the back feel and how's the protection?

I like the case, I don't regret my purchase. I would buy the black one if I could buy the case again to avoid the case getting dirty. Protection is great, already survived a fall. Back is soft to touch and I feel doesn't add too much bulk.

The power and volume buttons are hard to press with the case on. I prefer this so the buttons do not get pressed in my pocket. You may prefer something different.

Re: Naked of Case?

For the first couple of weeks, I might have considered a case. This far into it naked, it's not gonna happen. :)

I do refrain from laying the back down on any surface where I might risk scratching the camera lens. Not a hassle.

Naked or die! :D

Thanks for the reply. Depending on how hard it is to press the buttons I might prefer that. I always find myself unlocking my phone or turning on the camera as I'm pulling my phone out of my pocket because the power button already got pressed. I don't mind spending a little extra money on that cause because of the official Nexus branding and the lack of bulk. I just hope that it can take a few falls and hopefully isn't a dust magnet. I use an otterbox on my Gnex and I install cabinets for a living. Really though I think a bumper should do fine, the otterbox really is overkill.

Yes. Dilutes the experience. I am careful. I won't argue against having one however.

Dust is not an issue with the gray case, I can't speak to the black one. I recommend the rhino shield as well since you are in construction.

Re: Naked of Case?

Does the Nexus Bumper case add a lot of bulk? I like to run naked as I think it best represents the design and feel of using the device, but I'd consider a case if it doesn't add bulk.

Re: Naked of Case?

I never used a case before (Samsung Moment, LG Optimus, Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus) but with the Nexus 4 and glass back, I used a bumper. Then with the Nexus 5, without anything it seemed so light and delicate, so I got a thin case. It just feels more sturdy with one. I'm sure if I dropped the phone from ear height on to a hard surface, the phone will still suffer the consequences, though.

Re: Naked of Case?

Just that type of guy. He gets confused by computers easily and it ticks him off. I got a case to avoid a fight...normally I would not use a case, and I don't think the nexus 5 really needs one.

The only reason my Nexus 4 broke was because the glass back. A call came in and it vibrated and slid off a FLAT surface, cracking the display. I don't expect that problem with the Nexus 5 and the plastic back.

LOL, well it that would cause a fight, its time for a new boyfriend. It isnt his money and Its not your fault he is a technology illiterate. I think it is a waste to get phone after phone and have three of them at the same time though. But, you can always sell them and you can sell your N4 too even if it has a crack.

As for me, i have mine in a Spigen Slim Armor case. Sometimes i take the case off but most of the time, my phones are in a case.

Re: Naked of Case?

I have the spigen nexus 5 ultra fit case and it has totally worn off the edges of my phone when taking off. Extremely disappointed.

Naked with a Ghost Armor screen shield.

Re: Naked of Case?

After almost 3 months of nakedness, including a trip to Hawaii w/lots of sand exposure, and the usual daily usage, the black matte backing and edges look flawless. Very durable.

Re: Naked of Case?

I had been running both.

Switching in and out of naked and slim armor case because my gps phone mount couldn't fit the phone with the case. Sometimes I would forget to put it back on.

Re: Naked of Case?

The Nexus feels extremely sexy without a case. The soft touch back does it for me. But I'm most likely gonna put a case on it pretty soon.

Re: Naked of Case?

Case- only because of the camera protruding from the phone. Otherwise I'm team naked.

I did have a case/screen protector on but took them off as I have insurance and it's just so darn beautiful to hold and look at.

I got the black bumper case from GP. Love that I can put the phone down and not worry about scratching the lens. It is very simple case but I am very upset with the quality of the case. The corners are already worn and the material that the case is covered in is peeling off. I have had the case for less than a week.

Naked (with Screen Protector).

After the hTc One, it changed my view on cases that I need to appreciate & respect it.

I also find it ridiculous how some can criticize (good or bad) the Build, Design and Quality but then put a case over it. I'm not a fan of OtterBox and I just hate this answer, "I always drop my phone."

I generally like the slim look of the phone without a case and also have the wireless charger so I want the optimal contact between the phone and the charging surface. For a little extra protection I ordered the Poetic Borderline Bumper case: Borderline Bumper | Poetic Cases
