Re: Back Camera Glass Cracking

Things like this vary on the person though. Sounds like your co-workers don't care as much as some of us do for devices. Accidents can happen sure -- For anyone, anywhere, but to just instantly say if you don't have a case you're going to get major dings / cracks is not really true. Depends on how the person is with the device :)... As you said it depends on how they take care of it.

Exactly! I haven't used a case on a phone since my sidekick days. I can count on my left hand how many times I've dropped my phones. All it takes is being mindful of what your doing. Plus cases detract from the overall look of the phone, and add unnecessary bulk.

Re: Back Camera Glass Cracking

Also some people choose not to care how their phone looks as long as it works, and that's okay too.

Re: Back Camera Glass Cracking

That's what happens when you drop your phone. #NoNexusProtectGate #IDontUseACaseBecauseIThinkMyPhoneIsSexyGate

I wore sweats today and my phone fell out of my pocket onto the concrete pavement as I was getting out of the car. It fell on its face and I have a plastic screen protector and the Adopted case from Play Store. No damage. My 6S Plus was also in my pocket and landed on it's face. Only my Glass Invisible Shield is cracked.

Can you link me to the plastic screen protector you were using?

Re: Should I return my Nexus 6P? (Paint scraping off)

It's not paint, it's anodized aluminum. Looks like the anodized layer is chipping away, which makes me think there was a problem with the anodization process. I would say you should request a replacement, but it's up to you.

Anodizing is not a coating but a fundamental change in the surface structure of the metal itself. As such, it cannot chip away however it can certainly be scratched down to un-treated metal.

See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anodizing

Re: Is the 6P really as fragile as they say on TWiT and CNET? (able to be broken with just one hand?

I'm referring to the one from China where a petite Chinese girl was handed a P6. She used just one hand and bent it.(by pushing it against the desk) She then tried the 5X and was not able to bend it at all, even with two hands.

So she is using the desk for leverage and intentionally trying to bend the phone and you feel that is something that could just happen in your pocket?

Re: More bending issues being reported

I'm not worried. In my whole life, I never had a phone bent or meet someone I know that had their phone bends. This is just theater and drama. Nothing to see here.

Re: More bending issues being reported

I've put a fair bit of pressure on mine and it shows no sign of flexing. Perhaps it goes suddenly at a certain point, but surely you'd expect that from a huge phone?
Can't say I'm worried as it doesn't even fit well enough into my pockets to get bent there. More likely to lose it tbh.

It's possible the people on this forum are more careful than Joe Six Pack. And you're right, accidents (or too many drinks) do happen. That's why I always have protection.

And for those that say a case takes away from the looks, I didn't realize people went around showing off their phone like a prized piece of jewelry. If that's the case, there are certainly some very good looking cases out there for those who like to parade their phone around town like a trophy wife.

For those who choose not to protect their phone, I'm just glad it's their money and not mine. I'm very ocd about taking care of my things, and wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing there was even the smallest of scratches on it.

Then again, I guess there are people out there that can afford to buy new phones if they drop (and damage) their current one. Must be nice.

It has nothing to do with that. Some people are just more careful than others. I don't use cases because they add extra bulk, and they detract from the overall look of the phone. It has nothing to do with showing it off, it just looks better sitting on a table/desk/etc without one on it. If it gets a ding here or there, that's life. As long as it works, I think that's what people care about most. I've dropped phones about 2-4 total times since I had a palm pre on sprint wayy back when. Your acting like a scratch on the phone deems it invalid to continue to function.... Well it doesn't...

I never said a scratch would make it not work, I said it would cause me to lose sleep. ;) I just like my electronic stuff to remain in like new condition while I own it. If others don't mind scratches/dents and cracked screens, that's fine. Plus, if I go to sell it, I'll get the most I can from it compared to other's phones.

IPhone bends also, so did the M8, and every other metal phone. They are not meant to be put in a pants back pocket and sat on, any metal framed phone will bend unless it's made of steel...Lol

They are blowing this out of proportion IMO. Phone is perfect for the exception of OIS not being present, and the placement of the volume rocker. other than that...its awesome.

This. I really don't think people need to worry about this. Besides, we should be treating this like the $500+ piece of hardware that it is...delicately. If you need a rugged phone, perhaps this is not the device for you.

This reminds me of all the idiots putting the S-Pen in backwards on their Samsung Notes and being pissed off that they got stuck. You intentionally try to bend your phone and it bends, then you're an *****.

Re: More bending issues being reported

These reports are coming from owners that are not abusing their phones and are keeping them in cases. Bury your head in the sand if you'd like, but most people are going to admit that these constant reports of build quality issues are troubling.

Or, most people aren't going to admit that because most people seem to love the phone. If you let a thread on Reddit scare you away from this phone, that's fine - but you can't tell people who have zero issues with their phone that they actually do have an issue.

Re: More bending issues being reported

The problem is we really don't know what kind of the treatment these phones have had. I have met people who say they are careful with their phone but by my standards they are reckless. Without knowing EXACTLY how the phone has been used it is impossible to know if these issues are due to the phone or the owners.

Yeah or maybe... Just maybe they actually ARE people who mistreat electronics and you just took their word for it that they didn't. What constant reports of issues? Do you mean the ones I see for every popular phone?

Like all the people I know who insist they're careful with their laptops while I see them always setting them down on beds and sofas sucking in dust while also smothering the fan ports. Smh

Breaking glass

Many owners are reporting that the strip of glass covering the camera lens on the back of the 6p are cracking for no apparent reason. Any of you here run into this problem? Google has been contacted, no reply yet.
