Who else thinks this cracking glass is a major issue

Who else thinks these reports of the glass on the back of the 6p cracking is a major widespread issue? .. I've been seeing more and more of these pop up and some from people that haven't even dropped their phone and randomly notice that their glass is cracked!

So how do you know they didn't drop their phone? Were you there when all of these events happened, or are you just taking them for their word? It's not a widespread issue, when 1 person on reddit, and 2 maybe 3 people have reported it here. People today just like to overreact to things, get a grip man.

Re: Who else thinks this cracking glass is a major issue

Have a feeling it may have happened when they tossed their phone on a counter. Not realizing the hump will be the primary point of contact and its glass.

Re: More bending issues being reported

I just have to chime in once more...
So because we say treat your phone good, that means we have our heads buried in the sand?

I take my word for things, nobody else's. I have owned every single iPhone, most HTC android phones, all the nexus devices except the 6, and mostly all the Galaxy devices. My phones tend to stay with me for 6-12 months depending on how much I like them, after that period I usually sell them and get top dollar. Want to know why I get top dollar? I take care of my stuff. I've seen how some people treat their phones, and I just shake my head in disbelief. Ask any Apple employee about the stories they hear from people. A phone looks like it was dropped out a window and the person will say, um I don't understand why this happened, all I did was throw it at my boyfriend, the screen shouldn't have shattered, I want a replacement. Same goes for all these phones, people think they are bullet proof.

I keep my phones in thin TPU cases and usually put an anti glare screen protector on to avoid scratches and fingerprints, and after my time with them they usually look like I just bought them. Do I put effort into keeping my stuff nice? Yes absolutely, I do the same with my cars as well. Bottom line, take care of your stuff, use common sense, and you should be fine.

Re: More bending issues being reported

Awesome! So only a couple dozen people out of several million? Sweet! Guess that means I have massive odds of mine being perfect!

Anyone know how to convert 24/10000000 into a percentage? I'm no good at maths

Re: More bending issues being reported

I know you're joking, but there's no way a million or more has been sold yet. Nexus phones never sell that well.

So the percentage would be bigger

Who else thinks this cracking glass is a major issue

This will be my first phone made in China (on 2nd thought, probably not true. Hehe) and I'm not really confident yet in longterm quality. Things aren't looking good considering how quickly (and easily apparently) the glass is breaking. Glad I ordered a case; although, it won't ship for at least a couple weeks.

After Apple's Bendgate, I've been worried by the reports about bent 6Ps, too.

I tend to doubt that's the case, given where most companies have their phones manufactured. Almost all major companies have factories in China. Even Apple - their devices may have been designed in California, but they're all built in China.

General Build Quality Issues Thread

We have so many threads now, so I thought I could save everyone some time.

Some Nexus 6P Owners Are Reporting Spontaneously Broken Rear Glass Panels
I used the phone for 2 days and noticed the back glass surrounding the camera was completely cracked on the second evening. I have no idea when this happened since I have never dropped the phone. I did set it down several times per normal use. I purchased the phone from Google directly and called their customer support. After 40 minutes of explaining my situation and being on hold they wanted to 'conference' me in with Huawei support which took another 20 minutes to connect (and the Google person was gone). Huawei support led me to believe that they are going to send me a new phone, but I had to email pictures to a special email address for 'management' review. The jury is out... but I am trying to remain positive about the whole thing. I really like the phone.

I totally agree that I should use a case, and will do so if/when I get the replacement, but I did not do anything unusual to cause this. I have dropped phones before and take total ownership of those situations. This seems like a design flaw to me if the contact point on the back allows for such an easy break. I thought I had saw in a review that this piece was plastic...??? Guess not...

There is one inexcusable defect on the phone (sure not all have experienced this; and quite possibly the major won't experience it ... but enough people have experienced it to warrant concern). The damn screen has a yellow hue to it ... it's ugly and noticeable and completely ruins the experience.

Google told me Huawei is aware of this and that over time of use the screen should level out

Yea, I'm tired and amended my post earlier when I realized how dumb that sounded. hehe.

I am joking about the exaggerated number but the point remains the same. I own one of the best series of HDTVs ever made but I know there have been unlucky buyers that got defective ones. However TV's aren't visible in the tech community so nobody knows that.

Apple and Samsung have both endured reports like these over the years and the sky didn't fall. Hundreds of millions of people are still buying them up and happily enjoying them. If this was a common problem affecting a sizeable number of shipped devices I'd care but it isn't. What it IS, is a few defective units off the line giving the tech media something to scribble about on a slow day. It's funny how these "oh no what a big problem" issues all magically stop being talked about. Bendgate was only last year but all I've heard for the last 6 months about that are crickets chirping.

How is it widespread? I've seen a grand total of a couple dozen tops out off all the units sold so far. I'm sure it is a defect, however that makes it no different than any other product in existence that had a few flawed units come off the assembly line. That's also not taking into account how many are flat out lying because they want it fixed under warranty. If I cracked my glass I'm sure as heck not going to advertise that it was my fault if I'm trying to get it fixed under warranty.

Re: Who else thinks this cracking glass is a major issue

I have only read of 2 people it has happened to, considering how many have sold, I don't see it as an issue

Re: Who else thinks this cracking glass is a major issue

As ever with these things, there's a bit of a reporting bias issue. Far more people report issues (as a percentage of the whole) than do those who have no issues (or only minor gripes... there are always minor gripes). Unless there are widespread indications (ie: It is known that Marshmallow removed the ability to set a default USB mode), not just a few scattered reports (also: cracking is the most obvious failure mode for anything glass... Everyone remember the glass backs on the N4 and iPhone 4?), there's probably nothing to worry about (and if it happens to you, report it and get it replaced under warranty. No worries)

Re: Who else thinks this cracking glass is a major issue

I have no idea how big of an issue it is, but the important thing is if it happens, Google replaces it.

A few complaints out of thousands of phones? So I'm supposed to believe this person that says the visor just shattered out of nowhere and he's saying that he knows he should use a case next time...Lol to that.

And someone said its a concern and widespread issue that the manufacturer knows about with the yellow hue...Lol to that also.

And one person out of thousands said their phone charger is broken after being dropped from 2 feet...I guess this calls for a laugh also.

I won't even address the bending issue deeply, but yes trying with all your might to bend a phone, any phone will result in a problem...common sense people.

These aren't tanks, they are cellphones, and screen color varies from device to device, mine is white, but someone else's could be either cooler, or warmer, yellow ones due make it out of the warehouse, no matter what phone we are talking about, its not a nexus 6p only problem.

While I do understand all the above points it doesn't hurt to try to keep track of this stuff and maybe find something in common with the phones the defects are happening to. Also it's not just one person that had the shattering visor it's atleast a handful as of now and the bending issues isn't just with trying to bend there has been some reports of it bending very easily even in someone's front pocket or bending after a light fall, while there could be user error such as the drop it still puts into question he quality of the build on some of these. I have an M8 and I have dropped it several times with no case and it has some scuffed up parts but no damage or bending to the phone.

All I can say is that you can't believe everything on the internet. There's bound to be some problems considering the scale of the production, but whatever issues legitimately exist are most likely being blown out of proportion. A 2 foot drop does not break a charger. An aluminum phone does not bend under normal use. Glass does not decide to shatter randomly without any kind of physical impact.
