Nexus 6P: Reviews and Unboxings Thread

Re: The Verge Review on the 6P is out, I'm shocked!!!

My sentiments exactly. I'm just hoping that real world folks don't face quality control issues once their devices come in. But in all honesty, if all turns out as well as I expect, I wouldn't mind another Google/Huawei collaboration next year.

yes! also wouldn't mind if they moved away from their emui and put out a 6+"/4500+mAh phone, with close to stock android. maybe if they have success with this one...

Re: The Verge Review on the 6P is out, I'm shocked!!!

"As long as I'm talking about specs, kudos to Google for going with 32GB of storage on the base $499 model of the Nexus 6P (unlike the base model of the iPhone 6S). That's exactly how it should be."

That statement says everything

Re: The Verge Review on the 6P is out, I'm shocked!!!

Iit's been widely detailed that googles team was heavily involved in every aspect of the phones hardware design. At the announcement and on the Reddit AMA.
I've long heard that too. Google has a lot of input on these phones, and has for a long time.

i am sceptical about the 810 chip. one plus two heats up. this will too

According to the early reviews, the 6P isn't having an issue with heat. Some have reported it gets warm on the initial startup, while setting up all the apps from a backup but, other than that, they say the phone has stayed cool. We'll see what the in depth reviews report but, at this point, it sounds like the 6P will be no worse than phones with other processors. Not sure if the difference is in the chip being v2.1, heavy throttling, or both, but the reviews are good so far.

I was thinking similar lines. Is this the first Huawei without their Kirin chipset, I don't know.

Nope, my Ascend Mate 2 has snapdragon 405 in it and some of their other phones here have Qualcomm as well. I wouldn't have bought my phone if it was their chipset. Too many potential incompatibilties.

A phone with a 4500 mah battery would be pretty heavy. My HAM2 already is with 3900 mah battery. There is CM12.1 with it if you want to flash and Huawei will give you an unlock token for the bootloader if you ask.

The chip is fine. Damn near every review I've seen has touched base on this. My Note 4 heats up like an oven.

It's also a metal unibody which will conduct heat very quickly just from the surrounding air alone. My ip6+ gets very hot when I'm using it outside or for any extended period of time that really pushes the processor (Waze was pretty terrible about that until this last update).

If you don't like what cpu they've chosen for this phone, then there's plenty of other phones out there to choose from. There's no high end chips out there that don't heat up with GPU/CPU intensive apps or games, and who the heck cares if the 810 solves this by throttling down. As long as your framerates don't drop or your experience is affected, I don't see why you'd care if it throttles. EVERY review that has come out so far states that this is the fastest/smoothest Android phone they've seen, and not one of them has claimed any type of heat problem.

we've been over this 100 times on this forum. It's going to be a non issue. If it was an issue that would have adversely affected the phone, GOOGLE WOULD NOT HAVE RELEASED THE PRODUCT.

Re: The Verge Review on the 6P is out, I'm shocked!!!

The biggest iPhone fan has moved on from The Verge to Wired. But for some weird reason even David Pierce has good things to say about the Nexus 6P.
Notes From a Weekend With Google's Nexus 6P | WIRED

Nilay Patel is an unabashed Apple fan. So is Casey Newton and even Dan Seifert is a bit biased (he was basing OP2 when they introduced the USB-C connector and now it is going fairly mainstream with the Nexus phones and MSFT Lumia devices).
Vlad Savov is fairly unbiased and so is Dieter Bohn.

I am most likely getting both Nexus phones. One for me and one for my brother.

That's a bold statement and very subjective.

Another reviewer who goes nearly as far as Ars Technica:

This is why the Nexus 6P is the Android phone you want next | Greenbot

"But the Nexus 6P isn’t just a kick-*** Nexus phone. I believe it’s the best Android phone you can buy today."

The verge made pretty much the same comment about the 6P

Nexus 6P review: the best Android phone | The Verge

The Nexus was always a good Android phone, sometimes a great one, but never the best one.

Now it is.

Yeah those reviews are subjective but I think it's the first time we've seen so many reviewers say such about a nexus.

I use the OnePlus2 as my daily. And my Note4 makes the same amount of heat

Personally, my experience with an iPhone (used a 5s for a few months) is that the battery life was worse than the Galaxy Nexus I had used previously. I had trouble it through a day on that phone. There is also a reason why Samsung made fun, in their commercials, of all the iPhone "wall huggers".

The 5s is pretty bad for that. The 6+ has been the only model that had really stellar battery.

Every phone I've had since the S3 has heat up rather warm when you use them. Even my wife's iPhone 5s gets warm. This is normal for electronics. The fear mongering is real lol!
