Nexus 7 will lead Android tablets to overtake the iPad

Apple is royally boned ad you put it not because of lack of innovation. But because bean counters are taking over and will run the company to the ground in the bid to squeeze every red cent it can in profit. Rather then worry about bringing in amazing products. Jobs didnt care about huge profit, he cared about end product more. This is gone, and apple will eventually suffer for this.

...Apple PCs don't appeal to the masses they sell completely on "cool factor". Why do you think a Mac Pro sells for literally 5 times as much as a PC with identical hardware. Macs are sold completely on the cool factor. There's a reason they make more profit per unit than any other computer manufacturer. You're buying marketing. If they appealed to the masses Windows wouldn't have 93 percent of the marketshare. Yet again your argument fails hard.

This is frankly the most ridiculous comment I've heard in this thread.

So riddle me this: "i"devices don't ALSO sell on quality, premium feel? On availability of amazing productivity apps? Not because they are near brainless to operate for most people, even the non-computer savy? Not because of integration with today's most used products, cars, exercise equipment, etc? Home automation capabilities with the help of hundreds of third party accessory manufacturers? Wait, school and government agencies are buying these things because they want to be hip and trendy? Dude, this argument is dumb, real talk.

On the mac issue, I cant seem to remember when i said they were applealing to the masses with macs. That is CLEARLY still a niche part of their business. "i" devices on the other hand they want to get in more people hands since it definitely has become their breadwinner.

I tend to believe that Apple's success hinged more on Steve Jobs being able to market the products guys like Woz and Ive were creating.

Last I heard, Ive is still at Apple working on future products.

It's working put great. Got my Nexus 7 for dang near the cost of manufacture. Sorry, I don't like paying a massive profit margin to Apple for marketing.

It's not just marketing though. I'd like the engineers behind R&D to get paid from their work as well. :)

Yep, Apple's not in it to make money. I suppose the 38 billion dollars they made this year was just a nice bonus for their charitable work. HAHAHAh! That's not, you know, WRITTEN by an Apple employee. If I every had any inclination to take you seriously, it just went out the window. I suppose they donate the 4000 dollar markup they make on EACH Mac pro to a good cause. Apple makes more profit per device sold than any other computer/ smartphone maker in the world. Lol, man. You need to stop drinking the kool-aid.

Pretty sure those profits aren't going to R and D. If they were they'd be getting like 10 times more than any devs in the world. Pretty sure the pay that the Google devs receive (110,000-225,000) is quite sufficient. Apples massively inflated profit margins aren't going to R and D. When it comes to hardware, they have a whole year to retouch last year's chassis. It's not like they develop their own hardware. But maybe you're right. Perhaps they are underpaying devs. That would explain why iOS6 is iOS 5 with a few new apps ;)

I just think it's kind of funny the Apple fans think everything else is cheap, when in reality, Apple is just overpriced.

No one said they are not in it make money...would that even make sense?

YOU however are one (of) who was basically saying since Jobs passed ZOMG, Apples design first principle is completely out the door because clearly the bean counters not trying to hear that crazy talk anymore.

What facts did you have to ASSume the "if you build it right, they will come" ideology would just disappear overnight ?

"Goal" <> "in it for".
"Goal" = "how we will achieve what we are in it for".

Hyperbole about $4,000 markups on a device that doesn't even retail for $4,000 means you've lost all rationality in the discussion and should probably step away from the keyboard for a few hours and take a few deep breaths. It's frankly a little silly.

You did say it. I just went back and read it. I don't want to mess around with double quoting on the mobile app, just go re-read your posts (probably should have done that before posting this). I can make a PC with identical hardware to the 5200 dollar Mac pro with a FAR nicer glass and aluminum case for 1200 dollars. It's a joke. Estimates show the aluminum chassis/casing of a macbook air costs 28 dollars. The Air is hundreds of dollars more that an ultrabook with the same specs. Why do you think Macs only have 6% of the market share? Because most people are smart enough not to get sucked into the marketing scheme and buy one.

Better apps?! Are you seriously living in a Mac sanctioned closet? Literally over 95 % of ALL computer apps don't run on Mac. There is not a single app that doesn't exist on PC, or that PC hasn't done better. Mac is so crippled on the software side it's not even funny. I would say that it's like blackberry vs the Apple appstore, but that would be a massive understatement about how much bigger the app selection for windows is.

"Apples goal is not to make money, but to make good products according to Jonathan ive" from your last post.

And Apples sales ARE already disappearing. IPhone sales are down 28% compared to the same amount of time after launch of the last iPhone. The iphone's sales have always gone strong 9 months after the sale of the New i device and slowed down in the 3 months before the new device. This time, the first ever, they slowed dramatically after only 6 months. Read the recently released earnings report. (Apple's stock took a nice drop immediately after the release) Wanna know where those loyal ifans have gone? Take a look on these forums. I've seen plenty of loyal iPhone users switching to android. Funny I've haven't seen longtime Android people switching to iphones.

Then they're damned good at manufacturing if they can sell them for $3,799 for the most expensive model available... :D

https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...com%2Fshop%2Fbuy-mac%2Fmac-pro&token=Y60H_gkd

ASUS didn't even figure out how to get their manufacturing costs into negative numbers.

Apple has some very clever engineers, indeed. LOL

They've gone down in price since I had this discussion 3 months ago, apparently. Still ridiculous price for ancient hardware. 2700 hundred for the quad core? Only 6 GB ram and an ancient radeon 5770? A quad core clocked at 3.2 GHz? Jeeeezus. My machine only cost like 900 and has 16 GB ram (86 bucks) a 8 core CPU clocked at 4.1 GHz (210 bucks for CPU and motherboard) a Radeon 6850 (100 bucks) a 750 watt power supply (60 bucks) a 2 tb hard drive (80 bucks) and a beautiful glass and aluminum case (300 bucks). So a way better machine at a third of the price, and I don't get mass purchase discounts. The 4700 dollar version is even worse. Pretty much the same specs, and the 12 core is only clocked at 2.4 ghz , my 8 core is still faster. They're selling old machines for way more than it costs to buy the newest and most powerful hardware available.

Ok, we are definitley talking apples and oranages here since I'm really trying to focus this on "i" devices but MACS keep getting mentioned as if the fate of the MAC is some sort of indication where the i device will go...

Again, while Apple isn't at liberty to just sit back and bank on their name anymore (mindshare), Android (looking at you too M$) have just as much work to do to stay profitable in the long haul in the mobile space err, earn a place in the general population's hearts and minds.

Remember when RIM was the far and way leader? Remember how they didn't innovate? What are Android vendors pushing to the table right now other than more and more slab clones over and over with bumped specs (notable exception the G-Note)? As you've said people are fickle, and they need blockbuster hits to draw their attention long-term.

With the track record of i devices the last 5 years, no one can spell the doom of "i" Apple from a few lower than expected quarters...a year that most other companies still would die for. iphone 5..WILL BREAK ANOTHER RECORD.

And since you want to quote cultural trends with real no stats, I'll quote from my innner circle as well. 9 co-workers (I.T. professionals) in the last year switching from "droids" as they called them for iphones and the number one reason was ACCESSORIES, number 2 QUALITY BUILD, they had to take their android back way too many times/freezing etc.

Android’s US Market Share Declined By 5% In Q2, ‘Approaching A Peak’: Strategy Analytics | TechCrunch

re: smartphones, looks like Android took a hit in marketshare in Q2. Looks like Apple was able to convince BlackBerry owners to make the switch to iOS.

Strategy Analytics: iPad keeps riding high in Q2 tablet market share, Android doesn't budge -- Engadget

That said, on the topic of the Nexus 7 leading Android tablets to overtake the iPad in tablet marketshare, of course I see Android taking over in marketshare since they're pretty much applying the same strategy as in smartphones.

Android is going to need to start shipping more devices to keep up. If Google remains aggressive with the Nexus 7 (and hopefully a new 10-inch tablet), I fear it'll price their own OEMs out of the market. Microsoft is ready and willing to take this risk but I'm not sure if Google is just yet.

While I see Android taking over tablet marketshare, it needs to be on the strength of multiple devices from multiple manufacturers. I don't think we'll ever see the Nexus tablets ever outsell the iPad line.

When it comes to software, Google continues to put out far more innovation. The whole reason people switch to android is a free ecosystem and gazillions of features. 99% percent of people here switching to Android, say the same thing. They're tired of the same stale old iPhone. Comparing Rim to Apple is a pretty accurate analogy.

As to you 9 friends who have switched to Apple... what are you keeping tabs on them? Or do you just live in Appleland USA? I honestly call B.S. But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe you know the only 9 people switching to iPhone.

And we certainly can predict the doom of "I" devices. Apple is seeing demand drop for iphones sooner after a release than ever before. Apple is is seeing less than expected earnings for the first time since the the first iphone . Analysts everywhere are sounding alarm bells. Google is taking tablet market share twice as fast as it did in the mobile market. And all the while their dominance of smartphone market continues to grow.

Even if they switch from the iPhone to an Android phone, I see less and less making the switch from an iPad to an Android tablet.

In my inner circle, I actually know more people that have an Android phone and an iPad vs. having an iPhone and an iPad.

I know of one person that bought one of the 7-inch Galaxy Tabs. Used it for three days and returned it. Ended up with iPad 2.

One of my coworkers has both a Xoom and iPad 2. He tried to use the Xoom in the office for a week. He never brought it back after that week. But the iPad 2 stuck around.

I also know more people that have cellular-enabled iPads vs. Wi-Fi only iPads, even though not all of them actually have data service enabled.

I'm considering the Nexus 7, though no video out is the dealbreaker for me.

And I'm not exactly sure how it would handle my main iPad use case -

I know several people, even on this forum who've dumped their iPad (and by dump I mean just no longer use it) since getting nexus 7s, since it's powerful and more portable than a 10 inch. For one thing, you can type way faster with an N7 in portrait mode. I also see a lot of people buying android tabs because they don't feel like shelling out twice as much for an iPad. When it comes to tabs, I agree with you, they will probably dominate eventually because of a lower price tag. And heck, that new Samsung 11.8 inch that's in the works has only 10ppi less that the iPad, with a bigger screen. People who want a mobile powerhouse are going to eat those up.

One COULD argue that Google suffers from scope creep cannibalizing their own projects since they always seem to have software that has soooooo much potential but never really gets the polish and finish to be a true iconic hit...search and maps obviously excluded. And good grief Google music needs some of that mojo for Petes sake....

Way too funny that you think general customers are buying android phones for features when the only people who can even tell you the differences are the types to hangout in these forums...what..5 percent of the smartphone market ? Free ecosystem? Lol. Really, Joe Schmo gives a rats ass ? Gazillion features ? Name 10 things I can't do on a jail broken iPhone that I can only do on a rooted android ? If you want to talk features, lets not forget how integrated apple devices are with...hell even Nike sneakers.

Sure I'm keeping tabs on my coworkers. Hard not to when excitement of a new iphone is spread by the water cooler...joy joy. Then there's the other group locked in 2 year contracts with android waiting for the iPhone 5, my boss included. They told me so when i tried to show off the N7 and one of them was like "and". Lol

HIGHLY doubtful that this will overtake the iPad, considering the most glaring strike going against it is that google is selling it only. You can buy an iPad anywhere
